Compared with the flat multi-label image classification, the hierarchical structure reserves a richer source of structural information to represent complicated relationships between labels in the real world. However, existing multi-label image classification methods focus on the accuracy of label prediction, ignoring the structural information embedded in the hierarchical label space. Furthermore, they hardly form the relevant visual feature space corresponding to the hierarchical label structure. In this paper, we propose a novel hierarchical framework based on the feature and label structural information named Hierarchical GAN-Tree and Bi-Directional Capsules (HGT&BC) to address these problems. We conduct Hierarchical GAN-Tree for feature space representation and Hierarchical Bi-Directional Capsules for label space classification, respectively. Hierarchical GAN-Tree generates hierarchical feature space using the unsupervised divisive clustering pattern according to the hierarchical structure, alleviating the mode-collapse of generators and the overfitting manifestation of conventional GANs. Hierarchical Bi-Directional Capsules utilize the hierarchical label structure in iterations of top-down and bottom-up processes: the top-down process integrates hierarchical relationships into the probability computation to enhance partial hierarchical relationships;the bottom-up process modifies the dynamic routing mechanism between capsules to represent semantic objects for the comprehensive global hierarchical classifiers. Owing to the two components, HGT&BC successfully expresses the hierarchical relationships in both feature and label space and improves the performance of multi-label image classification. Extensive experimental results on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our hierarchical framework in practice. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.

Dynamic searchable symmetric encryption (DSSE) enables users to delegate the keyword search over dynamically updated encrypted databases to an honest-but-curious server without losing keyword privacy. This paper studies a new and practical security risk to DSSE, namely, secret key compromise (e.g., a user’s secret key is leaked or stolen), which threatens all the security guarantees offered by existing DSSE schemes. To address this open problem, we introduce the notion of searchable encryption with key-update (SEKU) that provides users with the option of non-interactive key updates. We further define the notion of post-compromise secure with respect to leakage functions to study whether DSSE schemes can still provide data security after the client’s secret key is compromised. We demonstrate that post-compromise security is achievable with a proposed protocol called "Bamboo". Interestingly, the leakage functions of Bamboo satisfy the requirements for both forward and backward security. We conduct a performance evaluation of Bamboo using a real-world dataset and compare its runtime efficiency with the existing forward-and-backward secure DSSE schemes. Multi-band radiomap reconstruction (MB-RMR) is a key component in wireless communications for tasks such as spectrum management and network planning. However, traditional machine-learning-based MB-RMR methods, which rely heavily on simulated data or complete structured ground truth, face significant deployment challenges. These challenges stem from the differences between simulated and actual data, as well as the scarcity of real-world measurements. To address these challenges, our study presents RadioGAT, a novel framework based on Graph Attention Network (GAT) tailored for MBRMR within a single area, eliminating the need for multiregion datasets. RadioGAT innovatively merges model-based spatial-spectral correlation encoding with data-driven radiomap generalization, thus minimizing the reliance on extensive data sources. The framework begins by transforming sparse multiband data into a graph structure through an innovative encoding strategy that leverages radio propagation models to capture the spatial-spectral correlation inherent in the data. This graph-based representation not only simplifies data handling but also enables tailored label sampling during training, significantly enhancing the framework's adaptability for deployment. Subsequently, The GAT is employed to generalize the radiomap information across various frequency bands. Extensive experiments using raytracing datasets based on real-world environments have demonstrated RadioGAT's enhanced accuracy in supervised learning settings and its robustness in semi-supervised scenarios. These results underscore RadioGAT's effectiveness and practicality for MBRMR in environments with limited data availability. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cross-silo federated learning (FL) enables multiple institutions (clients) to collaboratively build a global model without sharing private data. To prevent privacy leakage during aggregation, homomorphic encryption (HE) is widely used to encrypt model updates, yet incurs high computation and communication overheads. To reduce these overheads, packed HE (PHE) has been proposed to encrypt multiple plaintexts into a single ciphertext. However, the original design of PHE assumes all clients share a single private key, making the system vulnerable to security threats of ciphertexts being intercepted and decrypted by honest-but-curious clients. Also, it does not consider the heterogeneity among different clients, resulting in undermined training efficiency with slow convergence and stragglers. To address these challenges, we propose FedPHE, a secure and efficient FL framework with PHE by jointly exploiting contribution-aware secure aggregation and straggler-resistant client selection. Using CKKS with sparsification and blinding, FedPHE achieves efficient secure aggregation that allows clients to only provide obscured encrypted updates while the server can perform aggregation by accounting for contributions of local updates. To mitigate the straggler effect, we devise a perturbed sketch-based selection to cherry-pick representative clients with heterogeneous models and computing capabilities in a communication-efficient and privacy-preserving manner. We show, through rigorous security analysis and extensive experiments, that FedPHE can efficiently safeguard clients' privacy, achieve 2.45-6.56× training speedup, cut the communication overhead by 1.32-24.85×, and reduce straggler effects by 1.89-2.78×. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, group communication has become more and more popular. In the current data center network, multicast plays an extremely important role in group communication. Traditional data center network is designed based on wires. Researchers have proposed Dcell, Bcube and other data center topologies successively. However, in the traditional data center network, the wired topology structure has the disadvantages of high overhead, complex deployment, high maintenance cost, slow heat dissipation and so on. Moreover, the existing wireless data center Flyways structure and Graphite structure have the problems of low connectivity and poor scalability. So this paper proposes and designs a new data center network topology Comb structure (Comb model is a multi-layer cellular structure model, which is a multi-layer structure composed of single-layer honeycomb-like structure interlaced with each other). The structure can effectively improve the connectivity of the data center, shorten the routing path, reduce the probability of node failure in the network, and ensure the smooth network. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

We report on the realization of a novel fiber-optic radio frequency (RF) transfer scheme with the bidirectional frequency division multiplexing (FDM) dissemination technique. Here, the proper bidirectional frequency map used in the forward and backward directions for suppressing the backscattering noise and ensuring the symmetry of the bidirectional transfer RF signals within one telecommunication channel. We experimentally demonstrated a 0.9 GHz signal transfer over a 120 km optical link with the relative frequency stabilities of 2.2 × 10−14 at 1 s and 4.6 × 10−17 at 20,000 s. The implementation of phase noise compensation at the remote site has the capability to perform RF transfer over a branching fiber network with the proposed technique as needed by large-scale scientific experiments. © 2021, CC BY.

The current streaming feature structure learning needs to be improved in the processing of nonlinear continuous data and the dynamic acquisition of causal structures. In this paper, we propose a causal structure learning algorithm, CANSF, based on the streaming feature of additive noise models. We have made three contributions. First, by using the information carried by the noise of nonlinear continuous data, we propose a real correlation identification method based on logarithmic likelihood, which can identify the real correlation and redundant features of target features, and dynamically select parent and child nodes for each feature. Second, based on regression analysis, a method to determine the causal direction is proposed, which can be used for dynamic orientation. Third, a learning method of causal structure based on streaming features is proposed, which can obtain the Causal structure diagram directly and dynamically.

Computational Pathology (CPATH) offers the possibility for highly accurate and low-cost automated pathological diagnosis. However, the high time cost of model inference is one of the main issues limiting the application of CPATH methods. Due to the large size of Whole-Slide Image (WSI), commonly used CPATH methods divided a WSI into a large number of image patches at relatively high magnification, then predicted each image patch individually, which is time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a novel Uncertainty-based Model Acceleration (UMA) method for reducing the time cost of model inference, thereby relieving the deployment burden of CPATH applications. Enlightened by the slide-viewing process of pathologists, only a few high-uncertain regions are regarded as “suspicious” regions that need to be predicted at high magnification, and most of the regions in WSI are predicted at low magnification, thereby reducing the times of image patch extraction and prediction. Meanwhile, uncertainty estimation ensures prediction accuracy at low magnification. We take two fundamental CPATH classification tasks (i.e., cancer region detection and subtyping) as examples. Extensive experiments on two large-scale renal cell carcinoma classification datasets demonstrate that our UMA can significantly reduce the time cost of model inference while maintaining competitive classification performance.

Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a diversity control regularization term to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Experiments over a range of benchmark datasets speak to the efficacy of DPCML. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.
