SMT solvers check the satisfiability of logic formulas over first-order theories, which have been utilized in a rich number of critical applications, such as software verification, test case generation, and program synthesis. Bugs hidden in SMT solvers would severely mislead those applications and further cause severe consequences. Therefore, ensuring the reliability and robustness of SMT solvers is of critical importance. Although many approaches have been proposed to test SMT solvers, it is still a challenge to discover bugs effectively. To tackle such a challenge, we conduct an empirical study on the historical bug-triggering formulas in SMT solvers' bug tracking systems. We observe that the historical bug-triggering formulas contain valuable skeletons (i.e., core structures of formulas) as well as associated atomic formulas which can cast significant impacts on formulas' ability in triggering bugs. Therefore, we propose a novel approach that utilizes the skeletons extracted from the historical bug-triggering formulas and enumerates atomic formulas under the guidance of association rules derived from historical formulas. In this study, we realized our approach as a practical fuzzing tool HistFuzz and conducted extensive testing on the well-known SMT solvers Z3 and cvc5. To date, HistFuzz has found 111 confirmed new bugs for Z3 and cvc5, of which 108 have been fixed by the developers. More notably, out of the confirmed bugs, 23 are soundness bugs and invalid model bugs found in the solvers' default mode, which are essential for SMT solvers. In addition, our experiments also demonstrate that HistFuzz outperforms the state-of-the-art SMT solver fuzzers in terms of achieved code coverage and effectiveness.

LSBert: Lexical Simplification Based on BERT

Lexical simplification (LS) aims at replacing complex words with simpler alternatives. LS commonly consists of three main steps: complex word identification, substitute generation, and substitute ranking. Existing LS methods focus on the contextual information of the complex word in the last step (substitute ranking). However, they miss out the following two facts: (1) The word complexity of a polysemous word is very closely related to its context;(2) The step of substitute generation regardless of the context will inevitably produce a large number of spurious candidates. Therefore, we propose a novel LS system LSBert based on pretrained language model BERT to address the aforementioned issues, which is capable of making use of the wider context when both identifying the words in need of simplification and generating substitute candidates for the complex words. Specifically, LSBert consists of a network for complex word identification by fine-tuning BERT and a network for substitute generation based on BERT. Experimental results show that LSBert performs well in both complex word identification and substitute generation, achieving state-of-the-art results in three benchmarks. © 2014 IEEE.

Adaptive Loose Optimization for Robust Question Answering

Question answering methods are well-known for leveraging data bias, such as the language prior in visual question answering and the position bias in machine reading comprehension (extractive question answering). Current debiasing methods often come at the cost of significant in-distribution performance to achieve favorable out-of-distribution generalization ability, while non-debiasing methods sacrifice a considerable amount of out-of-distribution performance in order to obtain high in-distribution performance. Therefore, it is challenging for them to deal with the complicated changing real-world situations. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective novel loss function with adaptive loose optimization, which seeks to make the best of both worlds for question answering. Our main technical contribution is to reduce the loss adaptively according to the ratio between the previous and the current optimization state on mini-batch training data. This loose optimization can be used to prevent non-debiasing methods from overlearning data bias while enabling debiasing methods to maintain slight bias learning. Experiments on the visual question answering datasets, including VQA v2, VQA-CP v1, VQA-CP v2, GQA-OOD, and the extractive question answering dataset SQuAD demonstrate that our approach enables QA methods to obtain state-of-the-art in- and out-of-distribution performance in most cases. An ice mass balance buoy(IMB)monitors the evolution of snow and ice cover on seas,ice caps and lakes through the measurement of various *** crucial measurement of snow and ice thickness has been achieved using acoustic sounders in early devices but a more recently developed IMB called the Snow and Ice Mass Balance Array(SIMBA)measures vertical temperature profiles through the air-snow-ice-water column using a thermistor *** determination of snow depth and ice thickness from SIMBA temperature profiles is presently a manual *** present an automated algorithm to perform this *** algorithm is based on heat flux continuation,limit ratio between thermal heat conductivity of snow and ice,and minimum resolution(±0.0625°C)of the temperature *** algorithm results are compared with manual analyses,in situ borehole measurements and numerical model *** bias and root mean square error between algorithm and other methods ranged from 1 to 9 cm for ice thickness counting 2%–7%of the mean observed *** algorithm works well in cold condition but becomes less reliable in warmer conditions where the vertical temperature gradient is reduced.

Dictionary learning (DL) is powerful for representation learning, while it fails to capture the deep hierarchical information hidden in data. In this paper, we propose a new generalized end-to-end mulita-layer representation learning architecture referred to as Multi-layer Dictionary Pair Learning Network (MDPL-net) for the deep sparse and hierarchical representation of images. To enable MDPL-net to conduct accurate classification, MDPL-net clearly integrates the skip connection end-to-end network and multi-layer deep sparse dictionary learning into a unified architecture. The representation learning module has several hidden DL blocks, where each hidden DL block has a dictionary pair learning (DPL) layer, a batch-norm layer and an activation function layer, and the DL blocks are connected in a feed-forward manner. To further improve the information flow and maintain the privileged features between different DL blocks, a novel skip dense connectivity pattern is deployed between hidden DL blocks, which can obtain more stable and discriminative features. The DPL layer jointly formulates the discriminative synthesis dictionary and analysis dictionary by minimizing reconstruction error within each batch over the feature maps from front layers. Extensive results on benchmark databases demonstrate the effectiveness of MDPL-net for discriminative representation and robust image classification.

Over the past decade, various methods for detecting side-channel leakage have been proposed and proven to be effective against CPU side-channel attacks. These methods are valuable in assisting developers to identify and patch side-channel vulnerabilities. Nevertheless, recent research has revealed the feasibility of exploiting side-channel vulnerabilities to steal sensitive information from GPU applications, which are beyond the reach of previous side-channel detection methods. Therefore, in this paper, we conduct an in-depth examination of various GPU features and present Owl, a novel side-channel detection tool targeting CUDA applications on NVIDIA GPUs. Owl is designed to detect and locate side-channel leakage in various types of CUDA applications. When tracking the execution of CUDA applications, we design a hierarchical tracing scheme and extend the A-DCFG (Attributed Dynamic Control Flow Graph) to address the massively parallel execution in CUDA, ensuring Owl's detection scalability. After completing the initial assessment and filtering, we conduct statistical tests on the differences in program traces to determine whether they are indeed caused by input variations, subsequently facilitating the positioning of side-channel leaks. We evaluate Owl's capability to detect side-channel leaks by testing it on Libgpucrypto, PyTorch, and nvJPEG. Meanwhile, we verify that our solution effectively handles a large number of threads. Owl has successfully identified hundreds of leaks within these applications. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to implement side-channel leakage detection for general CUDA applications.

Object detection, a quintessential task in the realm of perceptual computing, can be tackled using a generative methodology. In the present study, we introduce a novel framework designed to articulate object detection as a denoising diffusion process, which operates on the perturbed bounding boxes of annotated entities. This framework, termed ConsistencyDet, leverages an innovative denoising concept known as the Consistency Model. The hallmark of this model is its self-consistency feature, which empowers the model to map distorted information from any temporal stage back to its pristine state, thereby realizing a "one-step denoising" mechanism. Such an attribute markedly elevates the operational efficiency of the model, setting it apart from the conventional Diffusion Model. Throughout the training phase, ConsistencyDet initiates the diffusion sequence with noise-infused boxes derived from the ground-truth annotations and conditions the model to perform the denoising task. Subsequently, in the inference stage, the model employs a denoising sampling strategy that commences with bounding boxes randomly sampled from a normal distribution. Through iterative refinement, the model transforms an assortment of arbitrarily generated boxes into definitive detections. Comprehensive evaluations employing standard benchmarks, such as MS-COCO and LVIS, corroborate that ConsistencyDet surpasses other leading-edge detectors in performance metrics. Many daily applications are generating massive amount of data in the form of stream at an ever higher speed, such as medical data, clicking stream, internet record and banking transaction, etc. In contrast to the traditional static data, data streams are of some inherent properties, to name a few, infinite length, concept drift, multiple labels and concept evolution. Among all the data mining tasks, classification is one of the basic topics in data stream mining and has gained more and more attentions among different research communities. Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) has drawn much interests in data classification due to its high efficiency, universal approximation capability, generalization ability, and simplicity, which have greatly inspired the development of many ELM-based algorithms and their applications during the past decades. In this paper, we mainly provide a comprehensive review on ELM theoretical research and its variants in data stream classification, and categorize these algorithms from different perspectives. Firstly, we briefly introduce the basic principles of ELM and its characteristics. Secondly, we give an overview of different ELM variants to address the particular issues of data stream classification. Thirdly, we present an overview of different strategies to optimize the ELM, which have further improved the stability, accuracy and generalization ability of ELM, and briefly introduce some practical applications of ELM in data stream classification. Finally, we conduct several groups of experiments to compare the performance of ELM based models addressing the focused issues. Also, the open issues and prospects of ELM models used for stream classification are discussed, which are worthwhile to be further studied in the future. © 2022

The LeaderRank algorithm identifies influential nodes using the idea of the random walk and performs well in the identification of hub genes in biological networks. The rapid development of biological technologies promotes the evolution of networks to be highly complex and increasing largely in size. In this study, we introduce LRCu, for computing LeaderRank using CUDA, to identify hub genes. The results show that the parallel implementation is highly effective and achieves a speedup of more than 42 times for a 13,000-gene network, thereby enhancing large-scale network computation.

Efficient compressed index for top-k spatial keyword query

Location-Based services guide a user to find the object which provides services located in a particular position or region (e.g., looking for a coffee shop near a university). Given a query location and multiple keywords, location-based services return the most relevant objects ranked according to location proximity and text relevancy. Various hybrid indexes have been proposed in recent years which combine R-tree and inverted index to improve query efficiency. Unfortunately, the state-of-the-art approaches require more space in order to reduce response time. Cache mechanism is inefficient due to huge storage overhead. In this paper, a novel index based on index compressed technology (CSTI) is proposed, to answer top-k SKQ. CSTI significantly reduces storage overhead (by at least 80%), while maintaining efficient query performance. Extensive experiments based on real dataset and simulated dataset confirm CSTI is effective and efficient. ©2014 ISCAS.
