Restricted by their energy storage mechanism,current energy storage devices have certain drawbacks,such as low power density for batteries and low energy density for ***,the nearest ion capacitors,such as lithium-ion and sodium-ion capacitors containing battery-type and capacitor-type electrodes,may allow achieving both high energy and power *** the inspiration,a new zinc-ion capacitor(ZIC)has been designed and realized by assembling the free-standing manganese dioxide-carbon nanotubes(MnO2-CNTs)battery-type cathode and MXene(Ti3C2Tx)capacitortype anode in an aqueous *** ZIC can avoid the insecurity issues that frequently occurred in lithium-ion and sodium-ion capacitors in organic *** expected,the ZIC in an aqueous liquid electrolyte exhibits excellent electrochemical performance(based on the total weight of cathode and anode),such as a high specific capacitance of 115.1 F g?1(1 mV s?1),high energy density of 98.6 Wh kg?1(77.5 W kg?1),high power density of 2480.6 W kg?1(29.7 Wh kg?1),and high capacitance retention of^83.6%of its initial capacitance(15,000 cycles).Even in an aqueous gel electrolyte,the ZIC also exhibits excellent *** work provides an essential strategy for designing next-generation high-performance energy storage devices.

The cloud computing paradigm is featured by its ability to offer elastic computational resource provisioning patterns and deliver on-demand and versatile services. It's thus getting increasingly popular to build business process and workflow-based applications upon cloud computing platforms. However, it remains a difficulty to guarantee cost-effectiveness and quality of service of cloud-based workflows because real-world cloud services are usually subject to real-time performance variations or fluctuations. Existing researches mainly consider that cloud are with constant performance and formulate the scheduling decision-making as a static optimization problem. In this work, instead, we consider that scientific computing processes to be supported by decentralized cloud infrastructures are with fluctuating QoS and aim at managing the monetary cost of workflows with the completion-time constraint to be satisfied. We address the performance-trend-aware workflow scheduling problem by leveraging a time-series-based prediction model and a Critical-Path-Duration-Estimation-based (CPDE for short) scheduling strategy. The proposed method is capable of exploiting real-time trends of performance changes of cloud infrastructures and generating dynamic workflow scheduling plans. To prove the effectiveness of our proposed method, we build a large-prime-number-generation workflow supported by real-world third-party commercial clouds and show that our method clearly beats existing approaches in terms of cost, workflow completion time, and Service-Level-Agreement (SLA) violation rate.

Cooperative bi-path metric for few-shot learning

Given base classes with sufficient labeled samples, the target of few-shot classification is to recognize unlabeled samples of novel classes with only a few labeled samples. Most existing methods only pay attention to the relationship between labeled and unlabeled samples of novel classes, which do not make full use of information within base classes. In this paper, we make two contributions to investigate the few-shot classification problem. First, we report a simple and effective baseline trained on base classes in the way of traditional supervised learning, which can achieve comparable results to the state of the art. Second, based on the baseline, we propose a cooperative bi-path metric for classification, which leverages the correlations between base classes and novel classes to further improve the accuracy. Experiments on two widely used benchmarks show that our method is a simple and effective framework, and a new state of the art is established in the few-shot classification field. Coarse-grained automatic parallelization approach for branch nested loop

GCC compiler is a retargetable compiler program that was developed to increase the efficiency of programs in the GNU system. In recent years, compiler optimization based on data dependency analysis has become an important research area of modern compilers. Existing GCC compilers can only conduct dependency analysis on perfect nested loops. In order to better explore the coarse-grained parallelism of the nested loops, we propose a dependence test method that can deal with the branch nested loops. Firstly, we identify the branch nested loop in the programs. Then, we analyze the relationship between the array subscript and the outer index variable of the branch nested loop. Finally, we calculate the distance vector of the outer loop index variable and determine whether the loop has dependence through distance vector detection. Experimental results show that our method can correctly and effectively analyze the dependence relationship of branch nested loops. © 2019 Totem Publisher, Inc. All rights reserved.

An integration of satellites and terrestrial networks is crucial for enhancing performance of next generation communication systems. However, the networks are hindered by the long-distance path loss and security risks in dense urban environments. In this work, we propose a satellite-terrestrial covert communication system assisted by the aerial active simultaneous transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (AASTAR-RIS) to improve the channel capacity while ensuring the transmission covertness. Specifically, we first derive the minimal detection error probability (DEP) under the worst condition that the Warden has perfect channel state information (CSI). Then, we formulate an AASTAR-RIS-assisted satellite-terrestrial covert communication optimization problem (ASCCOP) to maximize the sum of the fair channel capacity for all ground users while meeting the strict covert constraint, by jointly optimizing the trajectory and active beamforming of the AASTAR-RIS. Due to the challenges posed by the complex and high-dimensional state-action spaces as well as the need for efficient exploration in dynamic environments, we propose a generative deterministic policy gradient (GDPG) algorithm, which is a generative deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method to solve the ASCCOP. Concretely, the generative diffusion model (GDM) is utilized as the policy representation of the algorithm to enhance the exploration process by generating diverse and high-quality samples through a series of denoising steps. Moreover, we incorporate an action gradient mechanism to accomplish the policy improvement of the algorithm, which refines the better state-action pairs through the gradient ascent. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly outperforms important benchmarks, and also validate the performance and practicality under different algorithm parameters and environment settings. Recently published graph neural networks (GNNs) show promising performance at social event detection tasks. However, most studies are oriented toward monolingual data in languages with abundant training samples. This has left the more common multilingual settings and lesser-spoken languages relatively unexplored. Thus, we present a GNN that incorporates cross-lingual word embeddings for detecting events in multilingual data streams. The first exploit is to make the GNN work with multilingual data. For this, we outline a construction strategy that aligns messages in different languages at both the node and semantic levels. Relationships between messages are established by merging entities that are the same but are referred to in different languages. Non-English message representations are converted into English semantic space via the cross-lingual word embeddings. The resulting message graph is then uniformly encoded by a GNN model. In special cases where a lesser-spoken language needs to be detected, a novel cross-lingual knowledge distillation framework, called CLKD, exploits prior knowledge learned from similar threads in English to make up for the paucity of annotated data. Experiments on both synthetic and real-world datasets show the framework to be highly effective at detection in both multilingual data and in languages where training samples are scarce. © 2021, CC BY.

A Distributed Privacy-Preserving Learning Dynamics in General Social Networks

In this paper, we study a distributed privacy-preserving learning problem in social networks with general topology. The agents can communicate with each other over the network, which may result in privacy disclosure, since the trustworthiness of the agents cannot be guaranteed. Given a set of options which yield unknown stochastic rewards, each agent is required to learn the best one, aiming at maximizing the resulting expected average cumulative reward. To serve the above goal, we propose a four-staged distributed algorithm which efficiently exploits the collaboration among the agents while preserving the local privacy for each of them. In particular, our algorithm proceeds iteratively, and in every round, each agent i) randomly perturbs its adoption for the privacy-preserving purpose, ii) disseminates the perturbed adoption over the social network in a nearly uniform manner through random walking, iii) selects an option by referring to the perturbed suggestions received from its peers, and iv) decides whether or not to adopt the selected option as preference according to its latest reward feedback. Through solid theoretical analysis, we quantify the trade-off among the number of agents (or communication overhead), privacy preserving and learning utility. Docker has been widely adopted in production environment, but unfortunately deployment and cold-start of container are limited by the low speed of disk. The emerging non-volatile memory (NVM) technology, which has high speed and can store data permanently, brings a new chance to accelerate the deployment and cold-start of container. However, it is expensive to replace the whole hard disk driver (HDD) with NVM. To achieve the fastest deployment and cold-start with lowest cost, we conduct in-depth analysis on the Top-134 images in Docker Hub and obtain two main insights as: (1) the storing latency of layered image has become the bottleneck of container deployment;(2) only a few image layers are required for container cold-start. Based on these two findings, we propose a NVM-HDD hybrid docker storage framework as N-Docker. It can effectively accelerate container cold-start by detecting the bottleneck layers as well as cold-start required layers and storing them into NVM for faster container startup with limited NVM capacity. Experimental results show that N-Docker can accelerate the container deployment by 1.21X and cold-start by 2.96X. Compared to NVM-Docker, which stores all images into NVM, N-Docker achieves the same performance improvements while reducing the usage of NVM by 88.22%. © 2019, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

With the rapid development of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) technology, many medical imaging equipments are connected to the medical information network to facilitate the process of diagnosing and treating for doctors. As medical image contains sensitive information, it is of importance yet very challenging to encrypt the medical image to safeguard the privacy or security of the patient. In this work, a deep learning based encryption and decryption network (DLEDNet) is proposed to fulfill the process of encrypting and decrypting the medical image. Specifically, in DLEDNet, the Cycle-GAN network is employed as the main learning network to transfer the medical image from its original domain to the target domain. Target domain is regarded as a "Hidden Factors" to guide the learning model to realize the encryption process. The encrypted image is restored to the original (plaintext) image through a reconstruction network to achieve an image decryption process. In order to realize the data mining process direct from the privacy-protected environment, a ROI (Region of interest)-mining-network is proposed to extract the interested object directly from the encrypted image. The proposed DLEDNet is evaluated on the chest X-ray dataset. Extensive experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a high level of security with a good performance in efficiency. Accurate image segmentation plays a crucial role in medical image analysis, yet it faces great challenges of various shapes, diverse sizes, and blurry boundaries. To address these difficulties, square kernel-based encoder-decoder architecture has been proposed and widely used, but its performance remains still unsatisfactory. To further cope with these challenges, we present a novel double-branch encoder architecture. Our architecture is inspired by two observations: 1) Since the discrimination of features learned via square convolutional kernels needs to be further improved, we propose to utilize non-square vertical and horizontal convolutional kernels in the double-branch encoder, so features learned by the two branches can be expected to complement each other. 2) Considering that spatial attention can help models to better focus on the target region in a large-sized image, we develop an attention loss to further emphasize the segmentation on small-sized targets. Together, the above two schemes give rise to a novel double-branch encoder segmentation framework for medical image segmentation, namely Crosslink-Net.
