Image-text matching is an important and challenging task in the field of multimedia analysis, aimed at bridging the semantic gap between visual content and language descriptions. Although this field has significant implications for enhancing cross-modal interaction, most previous work still faces challenges in accurately aligning images with text descriptions, especially when dealing with images containing rich semantic information. To address this issue, we propose a novel context-aware image-text matching model that extracts and summarizes visual region information aligned with multiple text descriptions from a single image. Specifically, we designed an adaptive context-aware self-attention module to extract representations of visual regions and text words. By controlling the complementary semantic relationships within each modality, our model can adaptively capture contextual information for each modality. We then introduce a Transformer-based encoder layer to extract features at multiple levels and aggregate region-level features into image-level features. Finally, fine-grained word-region alignment is conducted to match image features with corresponding text features. To evaluate the effectiveness of our method, we conducted extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, Flickr30K and MS-COCO. The experimental results show that our model outper-forms several state-of-the-art baselines in image-text matching tasks, demonstrating the effectiveness and practicality of our model in handline cross-modal retrieval tasks.

PicT: A SlimWeakly Supervised Vision Transformer for Pavement Distress Classification

Automatic pavement distress classification facilitates improving the efficiency of pavement maintenance and reducing the cost of labor and resources. A recently influential branch of this task divides the pavement image into patches and infers the patch labels for addressing these issues from the perspective of multi-instance learning. However, these methods neglect the correlation between patches and suffer from a low efficiency in the model optimization and inference. As a representative approach of vision Transformer, Swin Transformer is able to address both of these issues. It first provides a succinct and efficient framework for encoding the divided patches as visual tokens, then employs self-attention to model their relations. Built upon Swin Transformer, we present a novel vision Transformer named Pavement Image Classification Transformer (PicT) for pavement distress classification. In order to better exploit the discriminative information of pavement images at the patch level, the Patch Labeling Teacher is proposed to leverage a teacher model to dynamically generate pseudo labels of patches from image labels during each iteration, and guides the model to learn the discriminative features of patches via patch label inference in a weakly supervised manner. The broad classification head of Swin Transformer may dilute the discriminative features of distressed patches in the feature aggregation step due to the small distressed area ratio of the pavement image. To overcome this drawback, we present a Patch Refiner to cluster patches into different groups and only select the highest distress-risk group to yield a slim head for the final image classification. We evaluate our method on a large-scale bituminous pavement distress dataset named CQU-BPDD. Semi-supervised learning (SSL), thanks to the significant reduction of data annotation costs, has been an active research topic for large-scale 3D scene understanding. However, the existing SSL-based methods suffer from severe training bias, mainly due to class imbalance and long-tail distributions of the point cloud data. As a result, they lead to a biased prediction for the tail class segmentation. In this paper, we introduce a new decoupling optimization framework, which disentangles feature representation learning and classifier in an alternative optimization manner to shift the bias decision boundary effectively. In particular, we first employ two-round pseudo-label generation to select unlabeled points across head-to-tail classes. We further introduce multi-class imbalanced focus loss to adaptively pay more attention to feature learning across head-to-tail classes. We fix the backbone parameters after feature learning and retrain the classifier using ground-truth points to update its parameters. Prediction of Estimated Time of Arrival for Multi-Airport Systems Via "Bubble" Mechanism

Predicting Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) for a Multi-Airport System (MAS) is much more challenging than for a single airport system because of complex air route structure, dense air traffic volume and vagaries of traffic conditions in an MAS. In this work, we propose a novel Bubble mechanism to accurately and e ciently predict medium-term ETA for a Multi-Airport System (MAS), in which the prediction of travel time of an origin-destination (OD) pair is decomposed into two stages, termed as out-MAS and in-MAS stages. For the out-MAS stage, Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) is used to predict the travel time of a ight to reach the MAS boundary. For the in-MAS stage, we construct new spatio-temporal features based on clustering analysis of trajectory patterns facilitated by a novel data-driven hybrid polar sampling method. A sequence-to-sequence prediction model, Multi-variate Stacked Fully connected Bidirectional Long-Short Term Memory, is further developed to achieve multi-step-ahead predictions of in-MAS travel time for each trajectory pattern using the spatio-temporal features as input. Finally, the medium-term ETA prediction for an MAS is achieved by integrating the out-MAS and in-MAS prediction with the help of trajectory pattern prediction via random forest. A case study of predicting medium-term ETA for a typical MAS in China, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, is conducted to demonstrate the usage and promising performance of the proposed method in comparison to several commonly used end-to-end learning methods. © 2022, The Authors. Stabilization of Continuous-Time Markov/Semi-Markov Jump Linear Systems Via Finite data-Rate Feedback

This letter investigates almost sure exponential stabilization of continuous-time Markov jump linear systems (MJLSs) under communication data-rate constraints by introducing sampling and quantization into the feedback control. Different from previous works, the sampling times and the jump times are independent of each other in this letter. The quantization is recursively adjusted on the sampling time, and its updating strategy does not depend on the switching in a sampling interval. In other words, the explicit value of the switching signal in a sampling interval is not necessary. The numerically testable condition is developed to ensure almost sure exponential stabilization of MJLSs under the proposed communication and control protocols. We also drop the assumption of stabilizability of all individual modes required in previous works about the switched systems. Moreover, we extend the result to the case of continuous-time semi-Markov jump linear systems (semi-MJLSs) via the semi-Markov kernel approach. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness on stabilization of the proposed communication and control protocols. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Nine-degrees-of-freedom (9-DoF) object pose and size estimation is crucial for enabling augmented reality and robotic manipulation. Category-level methods have received extensive research attention due to their potential for generalization to intra-class unknown objects. However, these methods require manual collection and labeling of large-scale real-world training data. To address this problem, we introduce a diffusion-based paradigm for domain-generalized category-level 9-DoF object pose estimation. Our motivation is to leverage the latent generalization ability of the diffusion model to address the domain generalization challenge in object pose estimation. This entails training the model exclusively on rendered synthetic data to achieve generalization to real-world scenes. We propose an effective diffusion model to redefine 9-DoF object pose estimation from a generative perspective. Our model does not require any 3D shape priors during training or inference. By employing the Denoising Diffusion Implicit Model, we demonstrate that the reverse diffusion process can be executed in as few as 3 steps, achieving near real-time performance. Finally, we design a robotic grasping system comprising both hardware and software components. Through comprehensive experiments on two benchmark datasets and the real-world robotic system, we show that our method achieves state-of-the-art domain generalization performance. Next-POI recommendation aims to explore from user check-in sequence to predict the next possible location to be visited. Existing methods are often difficult to model the implicit association of multi-modal data with user choices. Moreover, traditional methods struggle to fully explore the variation of user preferences at variable time intervals. To tackle these limitations, we propose a Multi-Modal Temporal Knowledge Graph-aware Sub-graph Embedding approach (Mandari). We first construct a novel Multi-Modal Temporal Knowledge Graph. Based on the proposed knowledge graph, we integrate multi-modal information and leverage the graph attention network to calculate sub-graph prediction probability. Next, we implement a temporal knowledge mining method to model the segmentation and periodicity of user check-in and obtain temporal prediction probability. Finally, we fuse temporal prediction probability with the previous sub-graph prediction probability to obtain the final result. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.

Multi-view semi-supervised classification is a typical task to classify data using a small amount of supervised information, which has attracted a lot of attention from researchers in past years. In practice, existing methods focus more on extracting spatial or spectral features using graph convolutional neural networks without considering the diversity and variability of graph structures and the contributions of different views. To address this challenge, a network framework termed graph attention fusion network is proposed, which is comprised of two phases: view-specific feature embedding and graph embedding fusion. In the former feature extraction stage, view-specific feature embedding module can flexibly focus on the neighborhood calculation operation to learn a weight for each neighboring node. In the latter feature fusion stage, the graph embedding fusion module is performed by complementarity and consistency to fuse these embeddings for semi-supervised classification tasks. We conduct extensive experiments in terms of semi-supervised classification on real-world datasets to validate the superiority of the proposed method over various existing state-ofthe-art methods. © 2023, The Authors. The document-level relation extraction task aims to extract relational triples from a document consisting of multiple sentences. Most previous models focus on modeling the dependency between the entities and neglect the reasoning mechanism. Some other models construct paths implicitly between co-sentence entities to find semantic relations. However, they ignore that there are interactions between different triples, especially some triples play an import role in predicting others. In this short research paper, we propose a new two stage framework PCSR(Pre-classification Supporting Reasoning) which captures the interactions between triples and utilizes these information for reasoning. Specifically, we make a pre-classification for each entity pair in the first stage. Then we aggregate the embeddings of predicted triples to enhance entity representation and make a new classification. Since the second classification could find triples missed in the first stage, we take the result as the supplement of the prior one. Experiments on DocRED show that our method achieves an F1 score of 62.11. Compared with the previous state-of-the-art model, our model increase by 0.81 on the test set, which demonstrates the effectiveness of our reasoning mechanism.

This paper explores the size-invariance of evaluation metrics in Salient Object Detection (SOD), especially when multiple targets of diverse sizes co-exist in the same image. We observe that current metrics are size-sensitive, where larger objects are focused, and smaller ones tend to be ignored. We argue that the evaluation should be size-invariant because bias based on size is unjustified without additional semantic information. In pursuit of this, we propose a generic approach that evaluates each salient object separately and then combines the results, effectively alleviating the imbalance. We further develop an optimization framework tailored to this goal, achieving considerable improvements in detecting objects of different sizes. Theoretically, we provide evidence supporting the validity of our new metrics and present the generalization analysis of SOD. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
