This paper studies a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-aware fog computing network, where a multiple antenna fog function integrated hybrid access point (F-HAP) transfers information and energy to multiple heterogeneous single-antenna sensors and also helps some of them fulfill computing tasks. By jointly optimizing energy and information beamforming designs at the F-HAP, the bandwidth allocation and the computation offloading distribution, an optimization problem is formulated to minimize the required energy under communication and computation requirements, as well as energy harvesting constraints. Two optimal designs, i.e., fixed offloading time (FOT) and optimized offloading time (OOT) designs, are proposed. As both designs get involved in solving non-convex problems, there are no known solutions to them. Therefore, for the FOT design, the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) is adopted to solve it. It is theoretically proved that the rank-one constraints are always satisfied, so the global optimal solution is guaranteed. For the OOT design, since its non-convexity is hard to deal with, a penalty dual decomposition (PDD)-based algorithm is proposed, which is able to achieve a suboptimal solution. The computational complexity for two designs are analyzed. Numerical results show that the partial offloading mode is superior to binary benchmark modes. It is also shown that if the system is with strong enough computing capability, the OOT design is suggested to achieve lower required energy;Otherwise, the FOT design is preferred to achieve a relatively low computation complexity. Optimal online transmission policy in wireless powered networks with urgency-aware age of information

This paper investigates the age of information (AoI) for a radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting (EH) enabled network, where a sensor first scavenges energy from a wireless power station and then transmits the collected status update to a sink node. To capture the thirst for the fresh update becoming more and more urgent as time elapsing, urgency-aware AoI (U-AoI) is defined, which increases exponentially with time between two received updates. Due to EH, some waiting time is required at the sensor before transmitting the status update. To find the optimal transmission policy, an optimization problem is formulated to minimize the long-term average U-AoI under constraint of energy causality. As the problem is non-convex and with no known solution, a two-layer algorithm is presented to solve it, where the outer loop is designed based on Dinklebach's method, and in the inner loop, a semi-closed-form expression of the optimal waiting time policy is derived based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) optimality conditions. Numerical results shows that our proposed optimal transmission policy outperforms the the zero time waiting policy and equal time waiting policy in terms of long-term average U-AoI, especially when the networks are non-congested. It is also observed that in order to achieve the lower U-AoI, the sensor should transmit the next update without waiting when the network is congested while should wait a moment before transmitting the next update when the network is non-congested. Additionally, it also shows that the system U-AoI first decreases and then keep unchanged with the increments of EH circuit's saturation level and the energy outage probability. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy serves as an important tool to analyze chemicals and proteins in bioengineering. Multi-dimensional NMR offers a major improvement in resolution with multi-dimensional spectrum, but significantly increases data acquisition time and produces hypercomplex data that is difficult to be handled. To reduce this time, non-uniformly sampling can be applied to obtain undersampled data and using a reconstruction approach, such as the state-of-the-art low-rank method, to remove the spectral artifacts introduced by undersampling. However, only complex format of signal, including the real and imaginary parts, is considered in previous low-rank approach, which is less efficient when dealing with hypercomplex data that has multiple components. To deal with this problem, a hypercomplex low-rank model is proposed by introducing an adjoint matrix operation and then solved with a fast matrix factorization algorithm. This method efficiently uses redundant information among all the components of hypercomplex signal. Using simulated data and real protein data, we demonstrate that the proposed method provides a fast and high-fidelity reconstruction of hypercomplex NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, an open-access and easy-to-use cloud-computing platform is developed for this method. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Numerous movie reviews on the internet can be used to analyze audience experiences of movies and provide inspiration for the operation and production of movies. In this work, we integrate and match the review data on Douban and the box office data on the website ***, and utilize the topic model in natural language processing to determine the number of each movie review topics, then establish an regression equation to analyze the relationship between the number of topics and movie box office. Our analysis shows a significant positive correlation between film box office and the number of movie review topics, and we have provided an explanation for this. Finally, we also analyzed the practical application value of this work.

Do we measure novelty when we analyze unusual combinations of cited references? A validation study of bibliometric novelty indicators based on F1000Prime data

Lee, Walsh, and Wang (2015) – based on Uzzi, Mukherjee, Stringer, and Jones (2013) – and Wang, Veugelers, and Stephan (2017) proposed scores based on cited references (cited journals) data which can be used to measure the novelty of papers (named as novelty scores U and W in this study). Although previous research has used novelty scores in various empirical analyses, no study has been published up to now – to the best of our knowledge – which quantitatively tested the convergent validity of novelty scores: do these scores measure what they propose to measure? Using novelty assessments by faculty members (FMs) at F1000Prime for comparison, we tested the convergent validity of the two novelty scores (U and W). FMs’ assessments not only refer to the quality of biomedical papers, but also to their characteristics (by assigning certain tags to the papers): for example, are the presented findings or formulated hypotheses novel (tags "new findings" and "hypothesis")? We used these and other tags to investigate the convergent validity of both novelty scores. Our study reveals different results for the novelty scores: the results for novelty score U are mostly in agreement with previously formulated expectations. We found, for instance, that for a standard deviation (one unit) increase in novelty score U, the expected number of assignments of the "new finding" tag increase by 7.47%. The results for novelty score W, however, do not reflect convergent validity with the FMs’ assessments: only the results for some tags are in agreement with the expectations. Thus, we propose – based on our results – the use of novelty score U for measuring novelty quantitatively, but question the use of novelty score W. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Emotional Neural Textures: Generating Talking-Face Videos with Continuously Controllable Emotions

This paper presents a real-time method for generating talking-face videos with continuously controllable emotional expressions. We base our method on the insight that emotion information primarily resides in textures, which neural textures, i.e., learned expressive feature maps, can capture. To enable continuous control of facial emotions, we introduce a novel neural network capable of generating emotional neural textures from continuous intensity emotion coding (CIEC) vectors. We employ a parametric 3D face model (3DMM) for emotional neural texture sampling and incorporate a teeth submodule to fill the mouth area cavity. Experimental results, along with a user study, demonstrate that our method surpasses three baseline approaches in producing high-quality talking-face videos with continuously controllable expressions. © 2024, The Authors. Digital personal health libraries: A systematic literature review

Objective: This paper gives context on recent literature regarding the development of digital personal health libraries (PHL) and provides insights into the potential application of consumer health informatics in diverse clinical specialties. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Here, 2,850 records were retrieved from PubMed and EMBASE in March 2020 using search terms: personal, health, and library. Information related to the health topic, target population, study purpose, library function, data source, data science method, evaluation measure, and status were extracted from each eligible study. In addition, knowledge discovery methods, including co-occurrence analysis and multiple correspondence analysis, were used to explore research trends of PHL. Results: After screening, this systematic review focused on a dozen articles related to PHL. These encompassed health topics such as infectious diseases, congestive heart failure, electronic prescribing. data science methods included relational database, information retrieval technology, ontology construction technology. Evaluation measures were heterogeneous regarding PHL functions and settings. At the time of writing, only one of the PHLs described in these articles is available for the public while the others are either prototypes or in the pilot stage. Discussion: Although PHL researches have used different methods to address problems in diverse health domains, there is a lack of an effective PHL to meet the needs of older adults. Conclusion: The development of PHLs may create an unprecedented opportunity for promoting the health of older consumers by providing diverse health information. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Soils are an important pool for storing organic carbon. Soil organic carbon (SOC) content is generally considered as an important indicator to evaluate farmland soil quality. The loss of SOC causes soil degradation and reduces the sustainability of farmland. In order to reveal the distribution pattern of SOC in the coastal monsoon area of eastern China, and to clarify the macro dominant factors of SOC accumulation caused by temperature and precipitation, this paper analyzed the distribution pattern of SOC in the coastal monsoon area of eastern China by using the SOC data collected from the national soil testing and formula fertilization data set, and discussed the effects of temperature and precipitation on SOC content. According to the provincial administrative divisions, the distribution of SOC in the coastal monsoon areas of eastern China from Heilongjiang Province to Hainan Province was calculated. According to the annual average temperature 20.95℃, annual average precipitation 0~400 mm, 400~800 mm, > 800 mm, the study area was divided into different regions, and the effects of annual average temperature and annual average precipitation on SOC content were studied. In the region with annual average temperature less than 10.18℃, the temperature had a negative correlation with the accumulation of organic carbon, and the ratio of precipitation and temperature had a positive correlation with the accumulation of SOC;In the region of 10.18℃~20.95℃, the annual average temperature and annual average precipitation had a significant positive correlation, and the ratio of precipitation and temperature had a positive correlation with the accumulation of SOC;In the region >20.95℃, the temperature had a negative correlation with the accumulation of organic carbon, and the ratio of precipitation and temperature was not related to the accumulation of SOC. In the range of 0 ~ 400 mm of annual average precipitation, the temperature had a positive correlation with the accumulation

Exploring linguistic features and user engagement in Chinese online mental health counseling

With the popularity of online mental health platforms, more individuals are seeking help and receiving social support by openly discussing their problems. Therefore, it's crucial to gain a deeper understanding of which problem disclosures and social support on these platforms can attract more user attention and engagement. Previous research has primarily focused on social media forums. Our work concentrates on the professional mental health platform, intending to understand the linguistic features present in posts that promote user engagement and interaction. We employ text mining and deep learning techniques to analyze posts consisting of 22,250 questions from help-seekers and 78,328 answers providing social support extracted from the Chinese online mental health counseling platform. Initially, we analyze the high-frequency words and topics of the questions and answers to gain insights into the primary focal points and the range of topics covered in these posts. The results indicate that work-related issues are the most concerning and troublesome for help-seekers, and the topics that users follow are approximately 8 types, including growth, family, in-love, marriage, emotions, human-relations, behavioral-therapy and career. Subsequently, we analyze the language usage in question-and-answer posts with different engagement from three aspects: vocabulary categories, linguistic style matching, and language modeling, aiming to identify which linguistic features can attract more user attention and engagement. The results reveal that high-engagement answer posts exhibit a higher degree of linguistic style matching with the corresponding questions, and the use of vocabulary categories also influences the attention and engagement of the posts. By exploring the linguistic features and patterns displayed in posts with different levels of engagement on the professional online mental health platform, this study offers deep insights into user behavior and the factors that impact

UAV-enabled Collaborative Beamforming via Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning

In this paper, we investigate an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assistant air-to-ground communication system, where multiple UAVs form a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (UVAA) to communicate with remote base stations by utilizing collaborative beamforming. To improve the work efficiency of the UVAA, we formulate a UAV-enabled collaborative beamforming multi-objective optimization problem (UCBMOP) to simultaneously maximize the transmission rate of the UVAA and minimize the energy consumption of all UAVs by optimizing the positions and excitation current weights of all UAVs. This problem is challenging because these two optimization objectives conflict with each other, and they are non-concave to the optimization variables. Moreover, the system is dynamic, and the cooperation among UAVs is complex, making traditional methods take much time to compute the optimization solution for a single task. In addition, as the task changes, the previously obtained solution will become obsolete and invalid. To handle these issues, we leverage the multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (MADRL) to address the UCBMOP. Specifically, we use the heterogeneous-agent trust region policy optimization (HATRPO) as the basic framework, and then propose an improved HATRPO algorithm, namely HATRPO-UCB, where three techniques are introduced to enhance the performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can learn a better strategy compared with other methods.
