Implicit regularization is an important way to interpret neural networks. Recent theory starts to explain implicit regularization with the model of deep matrix factorization (DMF) and analyze the trajectory of discrete gradient dynamics in the optimization process. These discrete gradient dynamics are relatively small but not infinitesimal, thus fitting well with the practical implementation of neural networks. Currently, discrete gradient dynamics analysis has been successfully applied to shallow networks but encounters the difficulty of complex computation for deep networks. In this work, we introduce another discrete gradient dynamics approach to explain implicit regularization, i.e. landscape analysis. It mainly focuses on gradient regions, such as saddle points and local minima. We theoretically establish the connection between saddle point escaping (SPE) stages and the matrix rank in DMF. We prove that, for a rank-R matrix reconstruction, DMF will converge to a second-order critical point after R stages of SPE. This conclusion is further experimentally verified on a low-rank matrix reconstruction problem. This work provides a new theory to analyze implicit regularization in deep learning. A large amount of log data is generated every moment in many real-world applications. System logs, mobile application logs, web logs etc., all of which contain rich information and can be analyzed for valuable information. At the same time, genealogy attracts more and more attention in recent decades, especially for Chinese. People utilize the genealogy system to seek roots, find source of family, build a family tree and so on. Due to the complexity of genealogy data and specific features of genealogy system, how to extract and analyze the valued genealogy information effectively is a huge challenge. Motivated by this, we propose a novel analysis method using web logs in genealogy system for drawing user profile and providing personalized recommendations. More specifically, firstly, all web logs are extracted from genealogy system based on the enhanced logs which record the behaviors and data of user. Secondly, the extracted logs are formatted for analysis, and we analyze the logs to extract various user-related attributes for drawing user profile. Finally, personalized recommendations like interested people and family tree are provided for each user in system. The high availability and effectiveness of our proposed method is verified on genealogy system-Huapu system.

Older adults have diversified needs often associated with particular aging scenarios. People started to use aging scenarios to provide better Smart Eldercare services and develop innovative solutions. The problem is how to manage these scenarios effectively. To our best knowledge, this study is the first to develop a model to provide a structured framework of aging scenarios for research and teaching of eldercare services. Labeling aging scenarios can facilitate their collection, classification, and consolidation within this model. This study uses the automatic labeling approach to manage and utilize aging scenarios. Under each class, there are labels with different numbers and smaller granularity to reflect the requirements in each scenario case. Since a scenario case often involves more than one label, properly labeling it becomes a multi-label text classification problem. We extend the multi-label text classification model LSAN for labeling aging scenario cases. For evaluation purposes, we collected 938 scenario cases as the dataset. Experimental results show that our proposed method can achieve an average accuracy of 61.66%, better than other classical methods. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Although Inquiry-based Learning (IBL) offers compelling opportunities for the engineering education, one of the challenges to the implementation of it is that the learner always lacks of the background knowledge. To provide him with the necessary knowledge when making the inquiry, this paper proposes an Ontology Supported Inquiry Learning technique (OSIL), which works on the basis of two ontologies, i.e. curriculum ontology and the learner’s ontology. The experimental results show that the constructed curriculum ontology and learner ontology is of high-quality, and the answers recommended by OSIL almost perfectly match with the true answers. From the experimental results, we can see that it is a feasible way of using the software engineering and prototype evolution method to construct the curriculum and learner ontology, and the individual inquiry based on two ontologies is able to provide the learners with high-quality personalized services. © 2021, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information. Semimetal Contacts to Monolayer Semiconductor: Weak Metalization as an Effective Mechanism to Schottky Barrier Lowering

Recent experiment has uncovered semimetal bismuth (Bi) as an excellent electrical contact to monolayer MoS2 with ultralow contact resistance. The contact physics of the broader semimetal/monolayer-semiconductor family beyond Bi/MoS2, however, remains largely unexplored thus far. Here we perform a comprehensive first-principle density functional theory investigation on the electrical contact properties between six archetypal two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) semiconductors, i.e. MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, WSe2, MoTe2 and WTe2, and two representative types of semimetals, Bi and antimony (Sb). As Bi and Sb work functions energetically aligns well with the TMDC conduction band edge, Ohmic or nearly-Ohmic n-type contacts are prevalent. The interlayer distance of semimetal/TMDC contacts are significantly larger than that of the metal/TMDC counterparts, which results in only weak metalization of TMDC upon contact formation. Intriguingly, such weak metalization generates semimetal-induced gap states (MIGS) that extends below the conduction band minimum, thus offering an effective mechanism to reduce or eliminate the n-type Schottky barrier height (SBH) while still preserving the electronic structures of 2D TMDC. A modified Schottky-Mott rule that takes into account SMIGS, interface dipole potential, and Fermi level shifting is proposed, which provides an improved agreement with the DFT-simulated SBH. We further show that the tunneling-specific resistivity of Sb/TMDC contacts are generally lower than the Bi counterparts, thus indicating a better charge injection efficiency can be achieved through Sb contacts. Our findings reveal the promising potential of Bi and Sb as excellent companion electrode materials for advancing 2D semiconductor device technology. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. knowledge graphs (KGs) have been widely applied in many fields such as recommendation systems and knowledge reasoning. Embedding KGs into a continuous vector space has quickly gained significant attention. However, most traditional KG embedding models assume that all the facts in the existing KGs are completely correct, ignoring that KG construction usually involves automatic mechanisms. These automatic construction processes inevitably generate a lot of noises and conflicts, including low-quality errors (e.g., entity type errors). Moreover, these low-quality noises could greatly influence the quality of rule extraction, which may reduce the efficiency of Rule-Guided Embedding model (RUGE). To address this problem, an efficient method to eliminate those entity type errors in triples is proposed and applied to RUGE. Experimental results demonstrate that the filtering of low-quality noises can greatly improve the accuracy of knowledge representation learning as well as the quality of rules, further illustrating the effectiveness of our method.

Large amounts of data are generated continually in the real world. The objects in the data and the relationships between them have become increasingly complex. Graph is a powerful tool for representing these data and the complex relationships between them. To effectively describe the entities and connections in these data, the concept of a knowledge graph was proposed, and knowledge graph has become one of the bases for storing graph data, and the importance of it is self-evident. Genealogy data is a kind of graph data where nodes are used to represent the person in the genealogy data, and edges are used to represent the relationship between the person. Moreover, in a genealogy graph database, the "critical" relationship that is unique for an entity is defined. In contrast, the abnormal data derive from the existence of multiple "critical" relationships between entities. In a genealogy graph, abnormal data will cause the wrong relationships and redundant entities. To avoid such abnormal data in genealogy graph database, the abnormal data are categorized into four different types, and the corresponding processing methods are proposed for each type of abnormal data, respectively. The experiment results demonstrate that the processing method can effectively solve these abnormal data.

This study suggests a solution to the optimal reservoir operation's typical nonlinear optimization problem by an improved Bat algorithm (IBA). The reservoir operations issue is modeled as the objective function according to the runoff data and comprehensive utilization requirements dealing with IBA’s optimization method. The IBA is implemented by introducing adaptive weight into the bat algorithm (BA) for updating mechanism. The bat's position is adjusted dynamically according to the actual situation to improve the bat's searching performance. The mechanism Tabu search (TS) diversity is also used to enhance the bat population diversity for preventing the situation that circuitous search does not leap out of the local optimum. The simulation results show that IBA can obtain a better reservoir operation scheme with higher operating efficiency than other algorithms, which offers a new way to maximize reservoir power generation operation. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A better understanding of the methane (CH4) adsorption characteristic and microscopic mechanism on coal surface cannot be overemphasized for safe coal mining and high-efficiency coalbed methane (CBM) extraction. In this work, the atomistic representations of long flame coal, coking coal, and anthracite coal obtained from China were created, and the CH4 adsorption isotherms considering temperature, moisture contents, and microwave in-situ modification was simulated and analyzed. The influence law and mechanism of these parameters and modification on methane adsorption were quantitatively explored by methane adsorption heat. The results of molecular structure parameters showed that with the coal metamorphism degree increased from long flame coal to coking coal and anthracite coal, the functional groups in the molecular structure of the coal decreased while the degree of graphite increased. It is worth mentioning that the action of in-situ modification on coal facilitates this process. The saturation adsorption capacity of CH4 decreased and then increased with the increase of coal metamorphism degree, decreased linearly with the increase of temperature, and when water molecular was present, the adsorbed CH4 showed different degrees of decreasing trend with the increase of moisture content. The isosteric heat of CH4 adsorption is coking coal > anthracite coal > long flame coal, the isosteric heat gradually decreased with the increase of methane adsorption, and the presence of water molecules has a limited effect on the isosteric heat. The in-situ modification used in this experiment disrupted the self-conjugated hydrogen bonds on the coal surface, which reduced the oxygen-containing functional groups. Functional groups like methyl and methylene were broken off and released as gases, as a result, the aromatic carbon rate, aromaticity, and aromatic ring condensation increased, and the alkane side chain length and branching degree decreased. With the rapid increase in the amount of website data, it has been a more difficult task for users to get the infor-mation they are interested in. Personalized recommendation is an important bridge to find the information which users really need on the website. Many recent studies have introduced additional attribute information about users and/or items to the rating matrix for alleviating the problem of data sparsity. In order to make full use of the attribute information and scoring matrix, deep learning based recommendation methods are proposed, especially the autoencoder model has attracted much attention because of its strong ability to learn hidden features. However, most of the existing autoencoder- based models require that the dimension of the input layer is equal to the dimension of the output layer, which may increase model complexity and certain information loss when using attribute information. In addition, as users' awareness of privacy protection increases, user attribute information is difficult to obtain. To address the above problems, in this paper, we propose a hybrid personalized recommendation model, which uses a semi-autoencoder to jointly embed the item's score vector and internal graph features (short for Co-Agpre). Specifically, we regard the user-item historical interaction matrix as a bipartite graph, and the Laplacian of the user-item co-occurrence graph is utilized to obtain the graph features of the item for solving the problem of sparse attributes. Then a semi-autoencoder is introduced to learn the hidden features of the item and perform rating prediction. The proposed model can flexibly use information from different sources to reduce the complexity of the model. Experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed Co-Agpre compared with state-of-the-art methods.
