AIM:To address the challenges of data labeling difficulties,data privacy,and necessary large amount of labeled data for deep learning methods in diabetic retinopathy(DR)identification,the aim of this study is to develop a source-free domain adaptation(SFDA)method for efficient and effective DR identification from unlabeled ***:A multi-SFDA method was proposed for DR *** method integrates multiple source models,which are trained from the same source domain,to generate synthetic pseudo labels for the unlabeled target ***,a softmax-consistence minimization term is utilized to minimize the intra-class distances between the source and target domains and maximize the inter-class *** is performed using three color fundus photograph datasets(APTOS2019,DDR,and EyePACS).RESULTS:The proposed model was evaluated and provided promising results with respectively 0.8917 and 0.9795 F1-scores on referable and normal/abnormal DR identification *** demonstrated effective DR identification through minimizing intra-class distances and maximizing inter-class distances between source and target ***:The multi-SFDA method provides an effective approach to overcome the challenges in DR *** method not only addresses difficulties in data labeling and privacy issues,but also reduces the need for large amounts of labeled data required by deep learning methods,making it a practical tool for early detection and preservation of vision in diabetic patients.

In the research of dynamic MRI imaging, we have utilized the minimax-concave (MC) function to replace the traditional nuclear norm, thereby significantly enhancing the model's fitting accuracy. The Total Variation (TV) duality technique is introduced to refine the model resolution further, better capturing underlying structures in MRI data. The splitting method is also employed to establish a comprehensive solution framework for the model. A high-efficiency algorithm, designed using the proximity operator, is developed to solve sub-problems within this framework, ensuring swift and accurate convergence. Numerical experiments on various dynamic MRI datasets and undersampling templates demonstrate that the new method outperforms traditional approaches in several key metrics, including CPU runtime, iteration count, and reconstruction performance. The new method reduces computational overhead, expedites the image reconstruction process, and significantly improves the quality of reconstructed images. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). Few-shot Named Entity Recognition (Few-shot NER) aims to identify and classify unseen named entity types with a limited labeled samples. In recent years, large language models have achieved remarkable results in various NLP tasks due to their excellent zero/few-shot generalization capabilities. Recent research has extensively focused on using large language models to study the named entity recognition task. Negative sample entities have been demonstrated to be effective when performing this task using in-context learning paradigm. However, the problem of low efficiency and poor quality in manually constructing negative sample entities has been exposed. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a Few-shot NER method based on generative negative sample enhancement (GNSE). Specifically, GNSE first utilizes a large language model to pre-identify potential entity spans in the support set text paragraphs in a zero-shot manner and generate the semantics of the spans based on the paragraph context. Then, the pre-identified candidate spans are compared with the ground-truth labels to determine positive or negative sample entity spans. Finally, based on Chain-of-Thought, the span semantics, positive and negative sample entities, and ground-truth labels are inserted into the example template for the in-context learning paradigm, and the test text from the query set is concatenated to construct a complete prompt. GNSE was evaluated on three widely used datasets: CoNLL’03, WNUT’17 and GUM. Due to the exceptional performance of Transform-ers in 2D medical image segmentation, recent work has also introduced them into 3D medical segmentation tasks. For instance, Swin UNETR and other hierarchical Transformers have reintroduced prior knowledge from several convolutional networks, further enhancing the volume segmentation capabilities of models. The efficacy of these hybrid methodologies is primarily attributed to the substantial quantity of parameters and the nonlocal self-attention mechanism with a large receptive field. We argue that the behavior of these methods' large receptive fields can be simulated by employing fewer parameters through the utilization of depth-wise convolutions with large kernel. Within this manuscript, we introduce a lightweight volume segmentation model called MedX-Net, which uses convolutional network modules to simulate hierarchical Transformers for robust volume segmentation. Firstly, inspired by the hierarchical Transformer module of Swin UNETR, we investigate large-kernel depth-wise convolutions with different sizes to achieve a reduced model parameter count while maintaining a large global receptive field. Secondly, we replace the multilayer perceptron (MLP) in the hierarchical Transformer module with Inverted Bottleneck with Depthwise Convolution Enhancement(DWCE) to improve model performance with fewer activation and normalization layers, further reducing the parameter count. We validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our model for volume segmentation on three public datasets: Synapse, BTCV and ACDC. On the Synapse dataset, compared to Swin UNETR, our model achieves an improvement from 83.48% to 87.21% in Dice score. Compared to the result of 86.57% achieved by nnFormer, our model achieves superior performance while reducing the model parameter count by 64%. © 2024 IEEE.

We study the partial search order problem (PSOP) proposed recently by Scheffler [WG 2022]. Given a graph G together with a partial order on the set of vertices of G, this problem determines if there is an S-ordering that is consistent with the given partial order, where S is a graph search paradigm like BFS, DFS, etc. This problem naturally generalizes the end-vertex problem which has received much attention over the past few years. It also generalizes the so-called F-tree recognition problem which has just been studied in the literature recently. Our main contribution is a polynomial-time dynamic programming algorithm for the PSOP of the maximum cardinality search (MCS) restricted to chordal graphs. This resolves one of the most intriguing open questions left in the work of Scheffler [WG 2022]. The issue of data center power consumption is becoming increasingly serious. One of the most effective techniques for increasing resource utilization and lowering power consumption is virtual machine consolidation. This paper proposes a threshold-based energy-efficient and SLA-aware algorithm for virtual machine migration and consolidation. Based on statistics and analysis of historical virtual machine status, the algorithm dynamically obtains the upper CPU utilization threshold of the physical servers and identifies whether to perform the virtual machine migration, so as to reduce the number of active hosts to save energy. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better comprehensive performance. When compared to the existing algorithm, our method can effectively decrease energy consumption and SLA violations. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

●AIM:To investigate a pioneering framework for the segmentation of meibomian glands(MGs),using limited annotations to reduce the workload on ophthalmologists and enhance the efficiency of clinical diagnosis.●METHODS:Totally 203 infrared meibomian images from 138 patients with dry eye disease,accompanied by corresponding annotations,were gathered for the study.A rectified scribble-supervised gland segmentation(RSSGS)model,incorporating temporal ensemble prediction,uncertainty estimation,and a transformation equivariance constraint,was introduced to address constraints imposed by limited supervision information inherent in scribble *** viability and efficacy of the proposed model were assessed based on accuracy,intersection over union(IoU),and dice coefficient.●RESULTS:Using manual labels as the gold standard,RSSGS demonstrated outcomes with an accuracy of 93.54%,a dice coefficient of 78.02%,and an IoU of 64.18%.Notably,these performance metrics exceed the current weakly supervised state-of-the-art methods by 0.76%,2.06%,and 2.69%,***,despite achieving a substantial 80%reduction in annotation costs,it only lags behind fully annotated methods by 0.72%,1.51%,and 2.04%.●CONCLUSION:An innovative automatic segmentation model is developed for MGs in infrared eyelid images,using scribble annotation for *** model maintains an exceptionally high level of segmentation accuracy while substantially reducing training *** holds substantial utility for calculating clinical parameters,thereby greatly enhancing the diagnostic efficiency of ophthalmologists in evaluating meibomian gland dysfunction.

In high-throughput intelligent computing scenarios, multi-device parallelism strategies based on data parallelism or pipeline parallelism have been extensively utilized to accelerate large deep neural network model inference. data parallelism offers nearly linear improvement in inference speed, but it is limited by the memory capacity of a single device which constrains the model size. On the other hand, pipeline parallelism can support larger models, but the total communication of the activations among devices is high, which limits the improvement of the inference speed. To address the demand for efficient model inference in high-throughput heterogeneous scenarios, we proposes a hybrid parallelism strategy that combines data parallelism and pipeline parallelism. The strategy involves grouping heterogeneous device clusters and then employing inter-group data parallelism along with intra-group pipeline parallelism. Moreover, we propose an algorithm to find an optimal hybrid parallel inference strategy with maximum throughput. The control variables of the strategy includes the number of groups, group-device assignments and model partition ratios. Our experimental evaluation demonstrates that compared to PipeEdge, a pipeline parallel inference framework for heterogeneous cluster, our strategy can achieve 1.7× -3.4× acceleration in an 8-device heterogeneous cluster without loss of accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper we extend our previous research on coherent observer-based pole placement approach to study the synthesis of robust decoherence-free (DF) modes for linear quantum passive systems, which is aimed at preservation of quantum information. In particular, DF modes can be generated by placing the poles on the imaginary axis via a coherent feedback design scheme, and these modes can further be simultaneously made robust against perturbations to the system parameters by minimizing the condition number associated with imaginary poles. We develop explicit algebraic conditions for the existence of such a coherent quantum controller, with the corresponding deign procedure provided. Examples are given to illustrate the process of tuning the DF modes towards perfect robustness via the proposed pole placement technique. © 2024 IEEE.

The Instruction-Driven Game Engine (IDGE) project aims to democratize game development by enabling a large language model (LLM) to follow free-form game descriptions and generate game-play processes. The IDGE allows users to create games simply by natural language instructions, which significantly lowers the barrier for game development. We approach the learning process for IDGEs as a Next State Prediction task, wherein the model autoregressively predicts the game states given player actions. The computation of game states must be precise;otherwise, slight errors could corrupt the game-play experience. This is challenging because of the gap between stability and diversity. To address this, we train the IDGE in a curriculum manner that progressively increases its exposure to complex scenarios. Our initial progress lies in developing an IDGE for Poker, which not only supports a wide range of poker variants but also allows for highly individualized new poker games through natural language inputs. This work lays the groundwork for future advancements in transforming how games are created and played. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.
