Targeted Pareto Optimization for Subset Selection With Monotone Objective Function and Cardinality Constraint

Subset selection, a fundamental problem in various domains, is to choose a subset of elements from a large candidate set under a given objective or multiple objectives. Pareto optimization for subset selection (POSS) has emerged as a powerful paradigm for addressing subset selection problems. Recently, some POSS variants have been proposed to further improve its performance. In this paper, we propose a new POSS variant, named Targeted Pareto Optimization for Subset Selection (TPOSS). TPOSS differs from POSS in four aspects: problem formulation, population initialization, mutation, and environmental selection. The main idea of TPOSS is to focus the search on the target region of subset selection with respect to the subset cardinality in order to improve the search efficiency. We conduct comprehensive experiments to compare TPOSS with six state-of-the-art algorithms on three subset selection tasks (i.e., sparse regression, unsupervised feature selection, and hypervolume subset selection) where the size of the candidate sets ranges from 20 to 400. Experimental results show that with respect to the objective value of the best feasible subset, TPOSS outperforms the other algorithms on all the three tasks, which suggests the potential of TPOSS to enhance subset selection in various domains. In this study, we introduce a novel Hybrid Federated Learning (HybridFL) approach aimed at enhancing privacy and accuracy in collaborative machine learning scenarios. Our methodology integrates Differential Privacy (DP) and secret sharing techniques to address inference risks during training and protect against information leakage in the output model. Drawing inspiration from recent advances, we present a HybridFL framework that combines the strengths of Homomorphic Encryption (HE) and Multi-Party Computation (MPC) to achieve secure computation without the computational overhead of pure HE methods. Our contributions include a privacy-preserving design for Federated Learning (FL) that ensures local data privacy through secret sharing while leveraging DP mechanisms for noise addition. The system offers resilience against unreliable participants and is evaluated using various machine learning models, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP), and linear regression. Furthermore, we address potential external threats by deploying predictive model outputs as robust services against inference attacks. Experimental results demonstrate improved accuracy and convergence speed, establishing the viability of HybridFL as an effective solution for collaborative machine learning with enhanced privacy guarantees. © ICST Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

Accurate state-of-charge(SOC) estimation,which is critical to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of battery management systems in electric vehicles,is still a challenging task due to sophisticated battery dynamics and ever-changing ambient *** paper proposes a method combining DRSN and ASTLSTM neural networks to estimate lithium batteries' state of charge(SOC).The proposed method can not only utilize the historical information of the data but also eliminate unimportant features by inserting soft thresholding into the deep *** reveal the performance of the proposed method,the results are compared with several other methods from the *** comparative experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a lower root mean square error(RMSE) of 0.83% with normal data and RMSE of 0.98% with noisy data,respectively.

Bias fields adversely affect various automatic analysis technologies. Therefore, bias field correction is essential. However, deep learning based methods encounter challenges in obtaining ground truth. Although existing methods attempt to address this problem by using training-free techniques or constructing datasets with approximations of the ground truth, the lack of task-oriented guidance, training instability, and inappropriate use of approximations still impact performance. Additionally, different approaches for bias field correction, i.e., estimating bias fields versus directly restoring clean images, exhibit different performances. However, there is no consensus on the best way, resulting in limited performance in some cases. To address these problems, we propose a bias field generation method to construct the dataset and provide task-oriented information. We then propose the concept of Equivalent of Residual Mapping (ERM) to analyze the advantages of estimating bias fields. According to ERM, we propose the Bias field Estimation Convolutional Neural Network (BECNN). Finally, we propose the Dual Route Implicit Supervised Learning (DRISL) strategy to balance the guidance derived from approximations of the ground truth with over-dependence on them. The proposed method is compared qualitatively and quantitatively with the correlated methods. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method performs effectively both on bias field estimation and correction. © 2024 IEEE.

In-band network telemetry (INT) is a new network measurement technique that provides real-time, fine-grained packet-level network measurements. However, standard INT lacks the flexibility to perform configurable on-demand network measurements. In this work, we propose a flexible on-demand network measurement mechanism (FDSR-INT) based on a dual bitmap by combining the programmability of segment routing based on IPv6 (SRv6) and the telemetry efficiency of the INT to achieve customizable network measurements. By designing the dual bitmap, the telemetry information of personalized probe nodes is supported, and the telemetry efficiency is improved. SRv6 is employed to direct measurement probe packets, ensuring coverage of a specified set of network targets. Its inherent programmability enables INT to conduct customized per-hop network measurements. The designed flexible INT field structure, which appends traceability information along with telemetry information, reduces the information traceability overhead in the control plane and improves the network compatibility of the mechanism. We solve the optimal probing path by solving a traveler problem in an auxiliary graph and design a greedy pathcutting algorithm to maximize the number of nodes for single packet probing while satisfying the packet length constraints to improve the success rate of the probing task. Finally, we implemented FDSR-INT using P4 and verified its performance experimentally in the constructed *** integrated simulation dynamic environment. FDSR-INT saves 30% of the data plane bandwidth and 54% of the data plane bandwidth on *** interfaces compared with SONM-SR-INT, etc. Furthermore, it has low control plane processing overhead and probe path transmission overhead. © 2014 IEEE.

Federated Learning (FL) is an advanced technology that tackles the challenge of blocked data arising from privacy concerns, enabling the training of deep learning models without the need for data sharing. However, FL faces difficulties with heterogeneous data and limited annotations in medical image segmentation. Motivated by this discovery, this study proposes a novel hybrid-supervised federated learning method (FedSLAG) that explores various types of annotations in medical imaging. To focus more on weakly-supervised and unsupervised scenarios within hybrid-supervised learning, a federated Gaussian enhancement module was proposed for heterogeneous sparse annotations (points and scribbles). The feature extraction module combines the features of multiple weakly-supervised clients and establishes the correlation of similar pixels, thus making up for the deficiency of scarce annotations and the insufficient feature extraction capability of a single machine. Then, a two-stage broadcast mechanism based on supervision sparsity was proposed to alleviate optimization deviation in local models. Experiments on breast tumor and skin lesion segmentation tasks demonstrate significant efficiency gains as well as highly competitive segmentation accuracy in many hybrid-supervised situations. In smart classrooms, conducting multi-face expression recognition based on existing hardware devices to assessstudents’ group emotions can provide educators with more comprehensive and intuitive classroom effect analysis,thereby continuouslypromotingthe improvementof teaching ***,most existingmulti-face expressionrecognition methods adopt a multi-stage approach, with an overall complex process, poor real-time performance,and insufficient generalization ability. In addition, the existing facial expression datasets are mostly single faceimages, which are of low quality and lack specificity, also restricting the development of this research. This paperaims to propose an end-to-end high-performance multi-face expression recognition algorithm model suitable forsmart classrooms, construct a high-quality multi-face expression dataset to support algorithm research, and applythe model to group emotion assessment to expand its application value. To this end, we propose an end-to-endmulti-face expression recognition algorithm model for smart classrooms (E2E-MFERC). In order to provide highqualityand highly targeted data support for model research, we constructed a multi-face expression dataset inreal classrooms (MFED), containing 2,385 images and a total of 18,712 expression labels, collected from smartclassrooms. In constructing E2E-MFERC, by introducing Re-parameterization visual geometry group (RepVGG)block and symmetric positive definite convolution (SPD-Conv) modules to enhance representational capability;combined with the cross stage partial network fusion module optimized by attention mechanism (C2f_Attention),it strengthens the ability to extract key information;adopts asymptotic feature pyramid network (AFPN) featurefusion tailored to classroomscenes and optimizes the head prediction output size;achieves high-performance endto-end multi-face expression detection.
