Due to the exceptional performance of Transform-ers in 2D medical image segmentation, recent work has also introduced them into 3D medical segmentation tasks. For instance, Swin UNETR and other hierarchical Transformers have reintroduced prior knowledge from several convolutional networks, further enhancing the volume segmentation capabilities of models. The efficacy of these hybrid methodologies is primarily attributed to the substantial quantity of parameters and the nonlocal self-attention mechanism with a large receptive field. We argue that the behavior of these methods' large receptive fields can be simulated by employing fewer parameters through the utilization of depth-wise convolutions with large kernel. Within this manuscript, we introduce a lightweight volume segmentation model called MedX-Net, which uses convolutional network modules to simulate hierarchical Transformers for robust volume segmentation. Firstly, inspired by the hierarchical Transformer module of Swin UNETR, we investigate large-kernel depth-wise convolutions with different sizes to achieve a reduced model parameter count while maintaining a large global receptive field. Secondly, we replace the multilayer perceptron (MLP) in the hierarchical Transformer module with Inverted Bottleneck with Depthwise Convolution Enhancement(DWCE) to improve model performance with fewer activation and normalization layers, further reducing the parameter count. We validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our model for volume segmentation on three public datasets: Synapse, BTCV and ACDC. On the Synapse dataset, compared to Swin UNETR, our model achieves an improvement from 83.48% to 87.21% in Dice score. Compared to the result of 86.57% achieved by nnFormer, our model achieves superior performance while reducing the model parameter count by 64%. © 2024 IEEE.

We study the partial search order problem (PSOP) proposed recently by Scheffler [WG 2022]. Given a graph G together with a partial order on the set of vertices of G, this problem determines if there is an S-ordering that is consistent with the given partial order, where S is a graph search paradigm like BFS, DFS, etc. This problem naturally generalizes the end-vertex problem which has received much attention over the past few years. It also generalizes the so-called F-tree recognition problem which has just been studied in the literature recently. Our main contribution is a polynomial-time dynamic programming algorithm for the PSOP of the maximum cardinality search (MCS) restricted to chordal graphs. This resolves one of the most intriguing open questions left in the work of Scheffler [WG 2022]. In high-throughput intelligent computing scenarios, multi-device parallelism strategies based on data parallelism or pipeline parallelism have been extensively utilized to accelerate large deep neural network model inference. data parallelism offers nearly linear improvement in inference speed, but it is limited by the memory capacity of a single device which constrains the model size. On the other hand, pipeline parallelism can support larger models, but the total communication of the activations among devices is high, which limits the improvement of the inference speed. To address the demand for efficient model inference in high-throughput heterogeneous scenarios, we proposes a hybrid parallelism strategy that combines data parallelism and pipeline parallelism. The strategy involves grouping heterogeneous device clusters and then employing inter-group data parallelism along with intra-group pipeline parallelism. Moreover, we propose an algorithm to find an optimal hybrid parallel inference strategy with maximum throughput. The control variables of the strategy includes the number of groups, group-device assignments and model partition ratios. Our experimental evaluation demonstrates that compared to PipeEdge, a pipeline parallel inference framework for heterogeneous cluster, our strategy can achieve 1.7× -3.4× acceleration in an 8-device heterogeneous cluster without loss of accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

●AIM:To investigate a pioneering framework for the segmentation of meibomian glands(MGs),using limited annotations to reduce the workload on ophthalmologists and enhance the efficiency of clinical diagnosis.●METHODS:Totally 203 infrared meibomian images from 138 patients with dry eye disease,accompanied by corresponding annotations,were gathered for the study.A rectified scribble-supervised gland segmentation(RSSGS)model,incorporating temporal ensemble prediction,uncertainty estimation,and a transformation equivariance constraint,was introduced to address constraints imposed by limited supervision information inherent in scribble *** viability and efficacy of the proposed model were assessed based on accuracy,intersection over union(IoU),and dice coefficient.●RESULTS:Using manual labels as the gold standard,RSSGS demonstrated outcomes with an accuracy of 93.54%,a dice coefficient of 78.02%,and an IoU of 64.18%.Notably,these performance metrics exceed the current weakly supervised state-of-the-art methods by 0.76%,2.06%,and 2.69%,***,despite achieving a substantial 80%reduction in annotation costs,it only lags behind fully annotated methods by 0.72%,1.51%,and 2.04%.●CONCLUSION:An innovative automatic segmentation model is developed for MGs in infrared eyelid images,using scribble annotation for *** model maintains an exceptionally high level of segmentation accuracy while substantially reducing training *** holds substantial utility for calculating clinical parameters,thereby greatly enhancing the diagnostic efficiency of ophthalmologists in evaluating meibomian gland dysfunction.

The Instruction-Driven Game Engine (IDGE) project aims to democratize game development by enabling a large language model (LLM) to follow free-form game descriptions and generate game-play processes. The IDGE allows users to create games simply by natural language instructions, which significantly lowers the barrier for game development. We approach the learning process for IDGEs as a Next State Prediction task, wherein the model autoregressively predicts the game states given player actions. The computation of game states must be precise;otherwise, slight errors could corrupt the game-play experience. This is challenging because of the gap between stability and diversity. To address this, we train the IDGE in a curriculum manner that progressively increases its exposure to complex scenarios. Our initial progress lies in developing an IDGE for Poker, which not only supports a wide range of poker variants but also allows for highly individualized new poker games through natural language inputs. This work lays the groundwork for future advancements in transforming how games are created and played. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging (NODDI) is an important imaging technology used to evaluate the microstructure of brain tissue, which is of great significance for the discovery and treatment of various neurological diseases. Current deep learning-based methods perform parameter estimation through diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) with a small number of diffusion gradients. These methods speed up parameter estimation and improve accuracy. However, the diffusion directions used by most existing deep learning models during testing needs to be strictly consistent with the diffusion directions during training. This results in poor generalization and robustness of deep learning models in dMRI parameter estimation. In this work, we first verify that the parameter estimation performance of current mainstream methods will significantly decrease when the testing diffusion directions and the training diffusion directions are inconsistent. A robust NODDI parameter estimation method with adaptive sampling under continuous representation (RobNODDI) is proposed. Furthermore, long short-term memory (LSTM) units and fully connected layers are selected to learn continuous representation signals. To this end, we use a total of 100 subjects to conduct experiments based on the Human Connectome Project (HCP) dataset, of which 60 are used for training, 20 are used for validation, and 20 are used for testing. The test results indicate that RobNODDI improves the generalization performance and robustness of the deep learning model, enhancing the stability and flexibility of deep learning NODDI parameter estimatimation applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Designing embedding costs is pivotal in modern image steganography. Many studies have shown adjusting symmetric embedding costs to asymmetric ones can enhance steganographic security. However, most existing methods heavily depend on manually defined parameters or rules, limiting security performance improvements. To overcome this limitation, we introduce an advanced GAN-based framework that transitions symmetric costs to asymmetric ones without the need for the manual intervention seen in existing approaches, such as the detailed specification of cost modulation directions and magnitudes. In our framework, we firstly achieve symmetric costs for a cover image, which is randomly split into two sub-images, with part of the secret information embedded into one. Subsequently, we design a GAN model to adjust the embedding costs of the second sub-image to asymmetric, facilitating the secure embedding of the remaining secret information. To support our phased embedding approach, our GAN's discriminator incorporates two steganalyers with different tasks: distinguishing the generator's final output, i.e., the stego image, from both the input cover image and the partially embedded stego image, providing diverse guidance to the generator. In addition, we introduce a simple yet effective update strategy to ensure a stable training process. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our method significantly enhances security over existing symmetric steganography techniques, achieving state-of-the-art levels compared to other methods focused on embedding costs adjustments. Additionally, detailed ablation studies validate our approach's effectiveness. © 2024 ACM.

In this paper we extend our previous research on coherent observer-based pole placement approach to study the synthesis of robust decoherence-free (DF) modes for linear quantum passive systems, which is aimed at preservation of quantum information. In particular, DF modes can be generated by placing the poles on the imaginary axis via a coherent feedback design scheme, and these modes can further be simultaneously made robust against perturbations to the system parameters by minimizing the condition number associated with imaginary poles. We develop explicit algebraic conditions for the existence of such a coherent quantum controller, with the corresponding deign procedure provided. Examples are given to illustrate the process of tuning the DF modes towards perfect robustness via the proposed pole placement technique. © 2024 IEEE.

Traffic speed prediction is vital for intelligent transportation systems. However, most existing methods focus on costly static sensors. In contrast, utilizing GPS devices from vehicles as mobile sensors offers a cost-effective means to gather dynamic traffic data. Despite the presence of historical trajectory data, mobile sensor-based traffic prediction remains under-explored. Existing methods often treat trajectories as substitutes for static sensors, missing the full utilization of the spatial-temporal signals within the complete trajectory set. To address this, we propose TrajHGT, a novel trajectory set empowered hypergraph transformer model that captures trafficrelated spatial-temporal features through adaptive attention and fusion mechanisms in both the trajectory hypergraph space and the road graph space. Real dataset experiments demonstrate the superiority of TrajHGT.

Virtual Machine Consolidation (VMC) is an effective means to improve the resource utilization and reduce energy consumption of data centers. However, the VMC optimization that only considers energy consumption may lead to SLA (Service-Level Agreements) violations and thus fail to guarantee the QoS (Quality of Service) provided. Therefore, it is necessary to consider both energy saving and SLA violations in the process of VMC. In this paper, we propose an energy and SLA-aware VMC algorithm that considers both energy saving and SLA violation optimization in data centers. The proposed algorithm uses the local regression method to predict the utilization of virtual machines, based on which it determines whether the host will be overloaded, so as to make the decision of virtual machine migrations. The proposed VMC algorithm is evaluated with CloudSim toolkit. Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm has good energy saving performance and can effectively reduce SLA violation in cloud data center. Considering energy consumption and SLA violation, the ESV can be reduced by 7.57% on average and 16.36% at most compared with other algorithms.
