The security of multimedia data in digital network is commonly provided by encryption. Nevertheless, most current modern encryption algorithms, which only transform a plaintext message that is the simplest form of multimedia data into unintelligible ciphertext, are not appropriate for higher forms such as images and video with very large file sizes. Selective encryption of MPEG video streams has been proposed to reduce encryption requirements, saving in complexity and facilitating new system functionality. In this paper, a two-way selective encryption algorithm (TWAEA) for MPEG video is proposed to compromise the security and speed in the process of encryption.

The I/O routine in network storage has longer transferring time and overhead than local I/O. To well make use of the storage network bandwidth and meet demand of concurrent I/O requests, we need to find the appropriate schedule policy for I/O requests at the level of the network. The focus in the paper is on how to schedule concurrent I/O data transferring in share storage network, and to improve performance such as the response time affected by scheduling method. Our objective is to analysis the response time of concurrent requests as function their schedule order such as the sequenced, parallel and hybrid policies. We then verify our results by both the analytical method and experiment.

The storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) has been proposed for years to standardize the management of storage resources in storage Area Network (SAN). However, current management architecture mainly focuses on local area management. In this paper, we propose a scalable management architecture based on the integration of SMI-S and Chord. Meanwhile, Chord can only deal with exact query, the query of storage resources is significantly more complex. To deal with this problem, we further improve our architecture with a scalable blind search method - recursive partition search (RPS). Experiments show RPS is an effective approach for storage resource range query in the case that the Chord overlay network is not very large.
