The Chinese energy market has entered a new critical phase of evolution under the carbon neutrality goals and ongoing reforms, fundamentally transforming its operation and price mechanism and potentially adding complexity to its system. This study analyzes the network structure and inherent interconnections among Chinese energy firms and their effects on energy stock returns. Accordingly, a high-dimensional network is constructed based on publicly traded data of 191 Chinese listed energy firms operating in multiple segments of the energy sector, which cover both brown energy and renewable energy sources and a dynamic network quantile regression (DNQR) model is used to evaluate the effect of relevance network on energy returns across various market conditions. The findings reveal the following: (1) The energy market is highly interconnected, exhibiting a clustering pattern consistent with industry segments. Gas plays a pivotal role in linking various industries, showing strong connections with multiple segments within the coal and petroleum sectors. (2) Public utilities, particularly electricity and gas, hold considerable systemic importance. Traditional energy sectors, such as thermal power, exert significant influence, underscoring the pressing need for accelerated development in non-fossil energy sources. (3) The contemporaneous network effect exerts a positive and dominant influence on energy stock returns, displaying asymmetry and tail behavior. Particularly, larger effects are observed in the upper quantiles that correspond to market prosperity and relative stability. These findings provide important insights into the performance and price formation mechanism of China’s energy market during key periods of energy policy proposal and implementation, offering valuable reference points for both economic practices and policy formulation. © 2024, The Authors. Multi2human: Controllable Human Image Generation with Multimodal Controls

Generating high-quality and diverse human images presents a substantial difficulty within the field of computer vision, especially in developing controllable generative models that can utilize input from various modalities. Such models could enable innovative applications like digital human, fashion design, and content creation. In this study, we introduce Multi2Human, a two-stage image synthesis framework for controllable human image generation with multimodal controls. In the first stage, a novel WAvelet-vqVaE (WAVE) architecture is designed to embed human images using a learnable codebook. The WAVE model enhances the conventional Vector Quantized Variational Autoencoder (VQVAE) by integrating wavelets throughout the encoder, thereby enhancing the quality of image reconstruction and synthesis. In the second stage, a new Multimodal Conditioned Diffusion Model (MCDM) is de- signed to estimate the underlying prior distribution within the discrete latent space using a discrete diffusion process, thus allowing for human image generation condi- tioned on multimodal controls. Quantitative and qualitative analysis demonstrates that the proposed method has the ability to create high-quality, lifelike full-body human images while satisfying the specified multimodal controls. Welding is a highly nonlinear, time-varying and multi coupling typical complex process. When using the traditional fuzzy reasoning method to make decision on welding parameters, it is difficult to build an accurate and complete welding process parameter rule base due to the uncertainty and complexity of the welding process. When the given input value cannot match the rules in the rule base, the reasoning conclusion cannot be drawn. In order to solve this limitation, this paper proposes a welding process parameter decision-making method, which is achieved by fuzzy rule interpolation. It can predict and decide welding parameters when the welding process parameter rule base is sparse. The experimental results show that the model can achieve high accuracy. © 2022 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

China is in the stage of rapid urbanization, resulting in more and more serious urban waterlogging problems. Based on the TELEMAC-2D hydrodynamic model, this paper conducted mathematical modeling of Swan Lake flood storage and detention area in Dongying City, and simulated the inflow and inundation process of Swan Lake flood storage and detention area under three rainfall scenarios of typhoon 'Rumbia', 'Lekima' and 50-year return period. The simulation results show that when three water intakes are opened at the same time (Plan A), the total amount of water inflow under typhoon 'Rumbia', 'Lekima' and 50-year return period rainfall scenario is not exceeding the storage capacity, respectively. When only one water intake was opened (Plan B), the total incoming flow is not exceeding the storage capacity of Swan Lake flood storage and detention area. In all setting plans and rainfall scenarios, the maximum water level before sluice is 3.42m. By operating and dispatching the intake sluice in the flood storage and detention area of Swan Lake, the water level of Guangli River can be effectively controlled below 3.5m, ensure that the urban drainage system is not supported by the top and maintain the normal drainage function. In all setting plans and rainfall scenarios, the maximum flow of 1#, 2# and 3# water intake is not exceeding the design flow of corresponding water intake, respectively. The simulation results can provide a scientific basis for the operation regulation and flood control operation of Swan Lake flood storage and detention area. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

Gene splicing site recognition is a very important research topic in smart healthcare. Gene splicing site recognition is of great significance, not only for the large-scale and high-quality computational annotation of genomes but also for the analysis and recognition of the gene sequences evolutionary process. It is urgent to study a reliable and effective algorithm for gene splice site recognition. Traditional Twin Support Vector Machine (TWSVM) algorithm has advantages in solving small-sample, nonlinear, and high-dimensional problems, but it cannot deal with parameter selection well. To avoid the blindness of parameter selection, particle swarm optimization algorithm was used to find the optimal parameters of twin support vector machine. Therefore, a Particle Swarm Optimization Twin Support Vector Machine (PSO-TWSVM) algorithm for gene splicing site recognition was proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm was compared with traditional Support Vector Machine algorithm, TWSVM algorithm, and Least Squares Support Vector Machine algorithm. The comparison results show that the positive sample recognition rate, negative sample recognition rate, and correlation coefficient (CC) of the proposed algorithm are the best among the four different support vector machine algorithms. The proposed algorithm effectively improves the recognition rate and the accuracy of splice sites. The comparison experiments verify the feasibility of the proposed algorithm. © 2023 Fuquan Zhang et al.

Enhancement or Super-Resolution: Learning-based Adaptive Video Streaming with Client-Side Video Processing

The rapid development of multimedia and communication technology has resulted in an urgent need for high-quality video streaming. However, robust video streaming under fluctuating network conditions and heterogeneous client computing capabilities remains a challenge. In this paper, we consider an enhancement-enabled video streaming network under a time-varying wireless network and limited computation capacity. "Enhancement" means that the client can improve the quality of the downloaded video segments via image processing modules. We aim to design a joint bitrate adaptation and client-side enhancement algorithm toward maximizing the quality of experience (QoE). We formulate the problem as a Markov decision process (MDP) and propose a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)based framework, named ENAVS. As video streaming quality is mainly affected by video compression, we demonstrate that the video enhancement algorithm outperforms the super-resolution algorithm in terms of signal-to-noise ratio and frames per second, suggesting a better solution for client processing in video streaming. Ultimately, we implement ENAVS and demonstrate extensive testbed results under real-world bandwidth traces and videos. The simulation shows that ENAVS is capable of delivering 5% − 14% more QoE under the same bandwidth and computing power conditions as conventional ABR streaming. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Effects Of Urban Tree Species and Morphological Characteristics On the Thermal Environment: A Case Study in Fuzhou, China

To investigate the correlation between morphological characteristics of typical tree species and the thermal environment. This research extracted the data of trees in the spatial range of a 50 meters radius of the sampling sites located in Chinese urban settlements, based on the drone aerial images and field measurement. It selected Ficus microcarpa, Cinnamomum camphora and Alstonia scholaris as three typical tree species, and the number of trees (N), mean tree canopy width (MTCW), mean tree canopy height (MTCH), mean tree height (MTH), tree canopy biomass (TCB) and mean tree canopy biomass (MTCB) as morphological characteristic indicators of trees. We analyzed the impact of the indicators above on ambient air temperature and relative humidity. The results showed that Ficus microcarpa provides more than 65% of the tree canopy biomass within the study area, and its cooling and humidification effects are superior than Cinnamomum camphora and Alstonia scholaris. The MTH and TCB of Ficus microcarpa are the key factors influencing daytime air temperature and relative humidity, with temporal fluctuation in impact intensity. The MTH and N of Ficus microcarpa have the best cooling effect (adjusted R²=0.731) during 13:00-14:00, while TCB and MTH have the best humidification effect (adjusted R²=0.748) during 9:00-10:00. © 2024, The Authors.
