The accurate representation of surface characteristic is an important process to simulate surface energy and water flux in land-atmosphere boundary *** crop growth model in land surface model is an important method to accurately express the surface characteristics and biophysical processes in ***,the previous work mainly focused on crops in single cropping system,less work was done in multiple cropping *** article described how to modify the sub-model in the SiBcrop to realize the accuracy simulation of leaf area index(LAI),latent heat flux(LHF)and sensible heat flux(SHF)of winter wheat growing in double cropping system in the North China Plain(NCP).The seeding date of winter wheat was firstly reset according to the actual growing environment in the *** phenophases,LAI and heat fluxes in 2004–2006 at Yucheng Station,Shandong Province,China were used to calibrate the *** validations of LHF and SHF were based on the measurements at Yucheng Station in 2007–2010 and at Guantao Station,Hebei Province,China in 2009–*** results showed the significant accuracy of the calibrated model in simulating these variables,with which the R2,root mean square error(RMSE)and index of agreement(IOA)between simulated and observed variables were obviously improved than the original *** sensitivities of the above variables to seeding date were also displayed to further explain the simulation error of the SiBcrop ***,the research results indicated the modified SiBcrop Model can be applied to simulate the growth and flux process of winter wheat growing in double cropping system in the NCP.

It is a great challenge to manage and sustain agricultural production in saline-alkali soils due to their high salt content, poor structure, and low fertility, posing global threats to soil health, land sustainability, and food security. China, accounting for 10.1 % of the world’s saline-alkali land, faces increased pressure as arable land decreases, population increases, and economic grows. Since the 1960s, region-specific reclamation techniques, such as flood irrigation, drip irrigation with mulching, and drainage systems have been employed in China, and have brought about obvious reductions in salinity by over 60 % and pH improvements, with values decreasing from above 9.5 to below 8.5 for saline-alkali soils. More recent efforts have enabled China to develop extensive theoretical knowledge and management practices, culminating in a “Chinese solution” for saline-alkali land management. This review provides an overview of the occurrence, evolution, and challenges of saline-alkali soils in China. It also employs meta-analysis to synthesize management techniques, evaluate their effectiveness, and summarize the mechanisms that mitigate saline-alkali soil problems. This review highlights successful strategies and outcomes from typical saline-alkali regions in China, providing insights for future management practices and research of their global applicability.

Urban land is the primary scene for economic manufacturing and services providing, through which the economic activities and trade flows amplify and cascade, interacting the natural and human systems. However, our understanding of the economic sectoral urban land metabolism remains inadequate. Here, we establish a spatially explicit sectoral urban land use inventory and a virtual land flow network for 13 cities in the Jing-Jin-Ji region in China to understand urban land use metabolism. Results show spatial heterogeneity in urban land use among industries and across spatial scales. Four cities exhibit reverse import and export roles in regional and national virtual land flow networks. It also reveals inequalities in benefit-cost and supply chain networks across cities, and a wide range of control and exploitation relationships in the region. We suggest that Beijing and Tianjin, as main beneficiaries in the regional economic network, are responsible for promoting regional sustainable development collaboration. © 2023, The Authors. Over the past 4 decades,Southwest China has the fast vegetation growth and aboveground biomass carbon(AGC)accumulation,largely attributed to the active implementation of ecological ***,Southwest China has been threatened by frequent extreme drought events recently,potentially countering the expected large AGC increase caused by the ecological ***,we used the L-band vegetation optical depth to quantify the AGC dynamics over Southwest China during the period *** results showed a net AGC sink of 0.064[0.057,0.077]Pg C year^(−1)(the range represents the maximum and minimum AGC values),suggesting that Southwest China acted as an AGC sink over the study *** that the AGC loss of 0.113[0.101,0.136]Pg C year^(−1)was found during 2013-2014,which could mainly be attributed to the negative influence of extreme droughts on AGC changes in Southwest China,particularly in the Yunnan *** each land use type(i.e.,dense forests,persistent forests,nonforests,afforestation,and forestry),the largest AGC stock increase of 0.032[0.028,0.036]Pg C year^(−1)was found in nonforests,owing to their widespread land cover rate over Southwest *** AGC density(i.e.,AGC per unit area),the afforestation areas showed the largest AGC density increase of 0.808[0.724,0.985]Mg C ha−1 year^(−1),reflecting the positive effect of afforestation on AGC ***,the karst areas exhibited a higher increasing rate of AGC density than nonkarst areas,suggesting that the karst ecosystems have a high carbon sink capacity over Southwest China.

Accurately quantifying spatiotemporal variations in evapotranspiration (ET) and its components on Tibetan Plateau (TP) is crucial for understanding the regional water cycle and energy balance. However, the determinant of spatial variations in ET and its component processes in grassland ecosystems of TP remain unclear. In this study, we used 14 sites observation data and applied Shuttleworth-Wallace-Hu (SWH) model to investigate the spatial relationships between ET, its components, and influencing factors. Our results highlighted the good performance of SWH model. There were corresponding drops in ET on alpine meadow and on alpine steppe. And the ratio of ET and precipitation (ET/PPT) of most sites was less than 1 in alpine meadow. Furthermore, the ratio of transpiration (T) and ET (T/ET) in alpine meadow generally exceeded that in alpine steppe. PPT emerged as the primary driver of interannual spatial variations in ET, while LAI played a crucial role in regulating T/ET. Our results further demonstrated that in the grassland ecosystem of TP, as the aridity index increased, the ET gradually transitioned from being primarily influenced by water supply to energy demand. This transition occurred at an aridity index of 0.73 approximately. The results of this study imply that in the context of global warming, with aridity index in TP decreasing, the ET of more ecosystems will shift from energy-led to water-led. Such findings are of immense significance in enhancing our understanding of the intricate interactions of the water cycle between land and the atmosphere. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Impact of Grazing Exclusion on the Surface Heat Balance in North Tibet

The grazing exclusion program used by the Tibetan government to protect the ecological environment has changed the vegetation and impacted the surface heat balance in North Tibet. However, little information is available to describe the in?uences of the current grazing exclusion program on local surface heat balance. This study uses the records of fenced grassland patch locations to identify the impact of grazing exclusion on surface heat balance in North Tibet. The records of fenced grassland patch locations, including the longitude, latitude, and elevation of the vertices of each fenced patch(polygon shapes), were provided by the agriculture and animal husbandry bureaus of the counties where the patches were located. ArcGIS 10.2 was used to create polygon shapes based on patch location records. Based on satellite data and the surface heat balance system determined by the model, values for changes in land surface temperature(LST), albedo and evapotranspiration(ET) induced by grazing exclusion were obtained. All of these can influence surface heat balance and alter the fluctuation of LST in the northern Tibetan Plateau. The LST trends for day and night showed an asymmetric diurnal variation, with a larger magnitude of warming in the day than cooling at night. The maximum decrease in absorbed shortwave of LST(?0.5 ? ?0.4 ℃ per decade) occurred in the central region, while the minimum decrease(?0.2 ? ?0.1 ℃ per decade) occurred in the eastern region. The decreased latent heat lead to the LST increased maximum(>1 ℃ per decade) occurred in the central region, The eastern region increased at a rate of 0.2?0.5 ℃ per decade, while the minimum increase(0?0.1 ℃ per decade) occurred in the northwestern region.

It has a history of intensive agriculture more than 1000 years. The loess deposit of CLP is the largest and deepest in the world. The abundance of silt grains in the loess deposit makes it relatively homogeneous, porous and prone to soil erosion.

The present study reports, the eco-friendly synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using Equisetum diffusum D. Don. extract, a medicinal plant known for its therapeutic properties. Phytochemicals present in the extract served as reducing and stabilizing agents for synthesizing stable AuNPs with an average size range of 68.8 nm. The biosynthesized AuNPs were characterized using UV–vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods, confirming their stability, morphology, and crystalline nature. The green synthesized ED@AuNPs exhibited promising biological activities, including broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with inhibition zones from 24 to 37 mm. The anticancer activity was assessed through an MTT assay against hepatic carcinoma (HePG2) cells, revealing dose-dependent cytotoxicity with maximum inhibition at 200 µg/mL (47.62%). Antidiabetic activity was demonstrated by starch hydrolysis and enzyme kinetics, with significant α-amylase inhibitory activity up to 70.85%, comparable to the standard drug Acarbose. Moreover, antioxidant activity was conformed through FRAP and DPPH assays, indicating strong free radical scavenging activity and reducing ability. The study demonstrates the potential of biosynthesized ED@AuNPs as multifunctional agents with applications in biomedicine, particularly in antibacterial, anticancer, antidiabetic, and antioxidant therapies, offering an eco-friendly and sustainable approach for nanoparticle synthesis. © The Author(s) 2025.

Rapid advancements in clean energy technologies have spurred a significant surge in China’s demand for critical minerals. However, developing clean-energy-critical minerals (CECMs) increasingly threatens China’s biodiversity. This study conducts a comprehensive spatial analysis of the impacts of CECMs and fossil energy minerals (FEMs) on China’s protected areas (PAs). We found that the impacts of CECMs are exceeding those of FEMs. Within the boundaries of PAs, we identified 1,338 developed mining ore fields, with an additional 618 earmarked for potential mining activities. Approximately 6,307 km 2 of PAs directly overlap with ore fields, and 167,551 km 2 are indirectly impacted by energy mining activities. Our findings suggest that imposing strict mining restrictions in PAs could mitigate 67% of the mining threat. This study underscores the urgent necessity for proactive conservation strategies to safeguard China’s PAs from the escalating risks posed by the expansion of clean energy technology.
