Surrogate-Assisted Multiobjective Gene Selection for Cell Classification from Large-Scale Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Data

Accurate cell classification is crucial but expensive for large-scale single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis. Gene selection (GS) emerges as a pivotal technique in identifying gene subsets of scRNA-seq for classification accuracy improvement and gene scale reduction. Nevertheless, the rising scale of scRNA-seq data presents challenges to existing GS methods regarding performance and computational time. Thus, we propose a surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective GS to address these deficiencies. An innovative two-phase initialization method is proposed to select sparse solutions to provide preliminary insights into gene contributions. Then, a binary competitive swarm optimizer is proposed for effective global search, where a local search method is embedded to eliminate irrelevant genes for efficiency consideration. Additionally, a surrogate model is adopted to forecast classification accuracy efficiently and substitutes part of the computationally expensive classification process. Experiments are conducted on eight large-scale scRNA-seq datasets with more than 20,000 genes. The effectiveness of the proposed GS method for scRNA-seq cell classification compared with eight state-of-the-art methods is validated. Gene expression analysis results of selected genes further validated the significance of the genes selected by the proposed method in the classification of scRNA-seq data. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Dynamic View Synthesis from Small Camera Motion Videos

Novel view synthesis for dynamic 3D scenes poses a significant challenge. Many notable efforts use NeRF-based approaches to address this task and yield impressive results. However, these methods rely heavily on sufficient motion parallax in the input images or videos. When the camera motion range becomes limited or even stationary (i.e., small camera motion), existing methods encounter two primary challenges: incorrect representation of scene geometry and inaccurate estimation of camera parameters. These challenges make prior methods struggle to produce satisfactory results or even become invalid. To address the first challenge, we propose a novel Distribution-based Depth Regularization (DDR) that ensures the rendering weight distribution to align with the true distribution. Specifically, unlike previous methods that use depth loss to calculate the error of the expectation, we calculate the expectation of the error by using Gumbel-softmax to differentiably sample points from discrete rendering weight distribution. Additionally, we introduce constraints that enforce the volume density of spatial points before the object boundary along the ray to be near zero, ensuring that our model learns the correct geometry of the scene. To demystify the DDR, we further propose a visualization tool that enables observing the scene geometry representation at the rendering weight level. For the second challenge, we incorporate camera parameter learning during training to enhance the robustness of our model to camera parameters. We conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in representing scenes with small camera motion input, and our results compare favorably to state-of-the-art methods. © 1995-2012 IEEE.

As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2

Exponential synchronization of coupled memristive neural networks via pinning control

This paper is concerned with the exponential synchronization problem of coupled memristive neural networks. In contrast to general neural networks, memristive neural networks exhibit state-dependent switching behaviors due to the physical properties of memristors. Under a mild topology condition, it is proved that a small fraction of controlled sub- systems can efficiently synchronize the coupled systems. The pinned subsystems are identified via a search algorithm. Moreover, the information exchange network needs not to be undirected or strongly connected. Finally, two numerical simulations are performed to verify the usefulness and effectiveness of our results.

Intracortical brain-machine interfaces (iBMIs) aim to establish a communication path between the brain and external devices. However, in the daily use of iBMIs, the non-stationarity of recorded neural signals necessitates frequent recalibration of the iBMI decoder to maintain decoding performance, which requires collecting and labeling a large amount of new data. To address this challenge and minimize the time needed for decoder recalibration, we proposed an active learning domain adversarial neural network (AL-DANN). This model leveraged a substantial volume of historical data alongside a small amount of current data (four samples per category) to calibrate the decoder. By incorporating domain adversarial and active learning strategies, the model effectively transferred knowledge from historical data to new data, reducing the demand for new samples. We validated the proposed method using neural signals recorded from three monkeys performing different movements in a classification task or a regression task. The results showed that the AL-DANN outperformed existing state-of-the-art methods. Impressively, it required only four new samples per category for decoder recalibration, leading to a recalibration time reduction of over 80 %. To our knowledge, this is the first study to incorporate deep transfer learning into iBMI decoder calibration, highlighting the significant potential of applying deep learning technologies in iBMIs. © 2025

In this paper, the DVRT(vector radiative transfer theory of densely distributed random discrete scatters) model to calculate the brightness temperature emitted by radiometer calibration load is presented. It takes the multiple scattering of isolation layer into account, which is neglected by the incoherent homogeneous model often used in calibration. Hence, it works much better than incoherent homogeneous model at millimeter wave band. Furthermore, the iteration of DVRT model is presented, and it proves that the incoherent homogeneous model is just the zero-order solution of DVRT model. Some numerical results are provided in the end.

Most existing flocking algorithms assume one single virtual leader and rely on information on both relative positions and relative velocities among neighboring *** this paper,the problem of controlling a flock of mobile autonomous agents to follow multiple virtual leaders is investigated by using only position information in the sense that agents with the same virtual leader asymptotically attain the same velocity and track the corresponding virtual leader based on only position measurements.A flocking algorithm is proposed under which every agent asymptotically attains its desired velocity,collision between agents can be avoided,and the final tight formation minimizes all agents' global potentials.A simulation example is presented to verify and illustrate the theoretical results.

Switching mechanism for TiO_2 memristor and quantitative analysis of exponential model parameters

The memristor, as the fourth basic circuit element, has drawn worldwide attention since its physical implementation was released by HP Labs in 2008. However, at the nano-scale, there are many difficulties for memristor physical realization. So a better understanding and analysis of a good model will help us to study the characteristics of a memristor. In this paper, we analyze a possible mechanism for the switching behavior of a memristor with a Pt/TiO2/Pt structure, and explain the changes of electronic barrier at the interface of Pt/TiO2. Then, a quantitative analysis about each parameter in the exponential model of memristor is conducted based on the calculation results. The analysis results are validated by simulation results. The efforts made in this paper will provide researchers with theoretical guidance on choosing appropriate values for(α, β, χ, γ) in this exponential model.

Mem Brain: An Easy-to-Use Online Webserver for Transmembrane Protein Structure Prediction

Membrane proteins are an important kind of proteins embedded in the membranes of cells and play crucial roles in living organisms, such as ion channels,transporters, receptors. Because it is difficult to determinate the membrane protein's structure by wet-lab experiments,accurate and fast amino acid sequence-based computational methods are highly desired. In this paper, we report an online prediction tool called Mem Brain, whose input is the amino acid sequence. Mem Brain consists of specialized modules for predicting transmembrane helices, residue–residue contacts and relative accessible surface area of a-helical membrane proteins. Mem Brain achieves aprediction accuracy of 97.9% of ATMH, 87.1% of AP,3.2 ± 3.0 of N-score, 3.1 ± 2.8 of C-score. Mem BrainContact obtains 62%/64.1% prediction accuracy on training and independent dataset on top L/5 contact prediction,respectively. And Mem Brain-Rasa achieves Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.733 and its mean absolute error of13.593. To execute a variety of collaborative tasks, the cooperation for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with complicated interactions under dynamic environments is a challenging and critical issue. This paper studies the cooperation issue for UAVs under dynamic environments through an approach of game theory-reinforcement learning (GT-RL) approach, which combines the advantages of both game theory and reinforcement learning. First, to cope with the complicated interactions of UAVs, the cluster of UAVs is modeled as a public goods game with asymmetrical environmental feedback. Then, reinforcement learning is adopted to optimize decision-making of UAVs under unknown and dynamic environments through comparing the dynamic behaviors of UAVs, where a novel dynamics system offers a more comprehensive understanding on cooperative behavior among UAVs. Finally, the simulation results show that the GT-RL approach can effectively promote cooperation among UAVs in completing the collaborative tasks. © 1967-2012 IEEE.
