A QUANTUM MULTI-AGENT BASED NEURAL NETWORK MODEL FOR FAILURE PREDICTION

An effective prognostic program is crucial to the predictive maintenance of complex equipment since it can improve productivity, prolong equipment life, and enhance system safety. This paper proposes a novel technique for accurate failure prognosis based on back propagation neural network and quantum multi-agent algorithm. Inspired by the extensive research of quantum computing theory and multi-agent systems, the technique employs a quantum multi-agent strategy, with the main characteristics of quantum agent representation and several operations including fitness evaluation, cooperation, crossover and mutation, for parameters optimization of neural network to avoid the deficiencies such as slow convergence and liability of getting stuck to local minima. To validate the feasibility of the proposed approach, several numerical approximation experiments were firstly designed, after which real vibrational data of bearings from the laboratory of Cincinnati University were analyzed and used to assess the health condition for a given future point. The results were rather encouraging and indicated that the presented forecasting method has the potential to be utilized as an estimation tool for failure prediction in industrial machinery.

In this paper, we investigate the cluster synchronization problem with unbounded time-varying delays for complex networks by adding some external controllers. Previous related works mainly focused on bounded time-varying or constant time delays, which may not be consistent with the real world. Therefore, unbounded time-varying delays is considered in this paper,which can be regarded as the main difference between this paper and previous related works. We discuss the necessary condition for cluster synchronization with external controllers, which can be used to guide the design of external controllers. Then, by using the Lyapunov function method, we prove that cluster synchronization could be achieved under some sufficient ***, the effects of time delays for the convergence of cluster synchronization are also discussed, which are named as theμ-cluster synchronization. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to show the validity of the obtained criteria.

In this paper, we consider a general and practical complex network model, in which there exist couplings with and without time delays, and the coupled functions among nodes are also nonlinear. For this network model, we investigate its finite-time synchronization by designing some general static and adaptive controllers respectively. Using the finite-time stability theory, some useful finite-time synchronization criteria are derived. Finally, numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the correctness of our theoretical results.

Traffic three elements consisting of flow, speed and occupancy are very important parameters representing the traffic information. Prediction of them is a fundamental problem of Intelligent Transportation systems (ITS). Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has been proved to be an effective deep learning method for extracting hierarchical features from data with local correlations such as image, video. In this paper, in consideration of the spatiotemporal correlations of traffic data, we propose a CNN-based method to forecast flow, speed and occupancy simultaneously by converting raw flow, speed and occupancy (FSO) data to FSO color images. We evaluate the performance of this method and compare it with other prevailing methods for traffic prediction. Experimental results show that our method has superior performance. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2017.

In this paper, we present a deep learning based approach to performing the whole-day prediction of the traffic speed for the elevated highway. In order to learn the temporal features of traffic speed data in a hierarchical way, an improved convolutional neural network (CNN) with asymmetric kernels is proposed. Speed data are collected from loop detectors of Yan’an elevated highway of Shanghai. To test the performance of the presented method, we compare it with some conventional approaches of traffic speed estimation. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms all of them. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2017.

Image captioning is a fundamental task which requires semantic understanding of images and the ability of generating description sentences with proper and correct structure. In consideration of the problem that language models are always shallow in modern image caption frameworks, a deep residual recurrent neural network is proposed in this work with the following two contributions. First, an easy-to-train deep stacked Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) language model is designed to learn the residual function of output distributions by adding identity mappings to multi-layer LSTMs. Second, in order to overcome the over-fitting problem caused by larger-scale parameters in deeper LSTM networks, a novel temporal Dropout method is proposed into LSTM. The experimental results on the benchmark MSCOCO and Flickr30K datasets demonstrate that the proposed model achieves the state-of-the-art performances with 101.1 in CIDEr on MSCOCO and 22.9 in B-4 on Flickr30K, respectively.

Real-time wireless sensor networks in the industrial settings usually consist of tens of nodes. Seldom do we see a network of over 100 wireless nodes. The smaller size is usually sufficient as a typical plane unit is no larger than a football fieldsize, and the critical data points of interest are not many. Webelieve, however, there is need for large scale real-time wireless sensor networks. In this paper we shall use WirelessHART as the platform to study and build one. We shall study the possibility, propose the methods to achieve, and test our solutions with experimentations. © 2016 IEEE.

In this paper, a large-scale human action recognition system is proposed which is built upon the combination of the rising big data processing technology Spark and the powerful Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in order to fully utilize the efficient in-memory computing ability of Spark and the fine-grained parallel computing capacity of GPU for visual data processing. A number of key algorithms for human action recognition including trajectory based feature extraction, Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) generation and Fisher Vector (FV) encoding are performed with the proposed GPU-based Spark framework. The experimental results on the benchmark human action dataset Hollywood-2 demonstrate that the proposed GPU-based Spark framework is able to dramatically accelerate the process of human action recognition. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

The password pattern has become a widely used mobile authentication method. However, there are still some potential security problems since the passwords are easy to be cracked by some malicious software. An important research direction of improving its security is adding behavior pattern into the password pattern. The existing methods mainly used user's gesture behavior data such as the location, pressure and contact area of finger collected by touch screen to build a behavior authentication model, which did not consider the influence of user's posture on user's gesture behavior. This paper aims to propose a gesture authentication construction method that is resilient against the change of user's posture. Firstly, for the posture behavior data collected by mobile's orientation sensor and acceleration sensor, we use K-means algorithm to get user's postures. Secondly, we train a gesture authentication sub-model for each posture based on the data collected by touch screen. Finally, we give a behavior authentication method based on these models. Our experimental result shows that the method achieves an effect of 4.36% False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and 5.03% False Rejection Rate (FRR) © 2016 IEEE.

A novel approach related to query expansion is proposed to improve image retrieval performance. The proposed approach investigates the problem that not all of the visual features extracted from images are appropriate to be employed for similarity matching. To address this issue, we distinguish image features as effective features from noisy features. The former is benefit for image retrieval while the latter causes deterioration, since the matching of noisy features may rise the similarity score of irrelevant images. In this work, a detailed illustration of effective and noisy features is given and the aforementioned problem is solved by selecting effective features to enhance query feature set while removing noisy features via spatial verification. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms a number of state-of-the-art query expansion approaches. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.
