In this paper, we present a deep learning based approach to performing the whole-day prediction of the traffic speed for the elevated highway. In order to learn the temporal features of traffic speed data in a hierarchical way, an improved convolutional neural network (CNN) with asymmetric kernels is proposed. Speed data are collected from loop detectors of Yan’an elevated highway of Shanghai. To test the performance of the presented method, we compare it with some conventional approaches of traffic speed estimation. Experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms all of them. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2017.

Real-time wireless sensor networks in the industrial settings usually consist of tens of nodes. Seldom do we see a network of over 100 wireless nodes. The smaller size is usually sufficient as a typical plane unit is no larger than a football fieldsize, and the critical data points of interest are not many. Webelieve, however, there is need for large scale real-time wireless sensor networks. In this paper we shall use WirelessHART as the platform to study and build one. We shall study the possibility, propose the methods to achieve, and test our solutions with experimentations. © 2016 IEEE.

Various in-situ synthesis methods have been developed for the polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) monomers, such as electro-polymerization (EP), oxidative chemical vapor deposition (OCVD) and vapor phase polymerization (VPP). Additional to these existing techniques, here a novel and facile method is introduced to fabricate highly conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) films in-situ by solution means. The process contains sequential deposition of oxidants and monomers. V2O5 is introduced as the oxidant in this synthetic route. Excess reactants and by-products can be completely removed from the PEDOT film by MeOH-rinsing. The obtained PEDOT films possess good crystallinity and high doping level, with carrier concentration three orders of magnitude higher than the commercial product (PH1000, Heraeus GmbH). The electrical conductivity of the as-cast PEDOT film reaches up to 1420 S/cm. In addition, this method is fully compatible with large-scale printing techniques. A 15 cm × 12 cm PEDOT film is printed on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate by bar coating. These PEDOT conducting films enable the realization of flexible touch sensors, which demonstrate superior flexibility and sensitivity. The low-cost and highly efficient synthetic method shows great potential for large-scale production of PEDOT films that have wide applications in electromagnetic shielding, antistatic coating, sensor, etc. © 2018, The Authors. Publishing articles in high-impact English journals is difficult for scholars around the world, especially for non-native English-speaking scholars (NNESs), most of whom struggle with proficiency in English. In order to uncover the differences in English scientific writing between native English-speaking scholars (NESs) and NNESs, we collected a large-scale data set containing more than 150,000 full-text articles published in PLoS between 2006 and 2015. We divided these articles into three groups according to the ethnic backgrounds of the first and corresponding authors, obtained by Ethnea, and examined the scientific writing styles in English from a two-fold perspective of linguistic complexity: (1) syntactic complexity, including measurements of sentence length and sentence complexity;and (2) lexical complexity, including measurements of lexical diversity, lexical density, and lexical sophistication. The observations suggest marginal differences between groups in syntactical and lexical complexity. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a large-scale human action recognition system is proposed which is built upon the combination of the rising big data processing technology Spark and the powerful Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in order to fully utilize the efficient in-memory computing ability of Spark and the fine-grained parallel computing capacity of GPU for visual data processing. A number of key algorithms for human action recognition including trajectory based feature extraction, Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) generation and Fisher Vector (FV) encoding are performed with the proposed GPU-based Spark framework. The experimental results on the benchmark human action dataset Hollywood-2 demonstrate that the proposed GPU-based Spark framework is able to dramatically accelerate the process of human action recognition. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

The password pattern has become a widely used mobile authentication method. However, there are still some potential security problems since the passwords are easy to be cracked by some malicious software. An important research direction of improving its security is adding behavior pattern into the password pattern. The existing methods mainly used user's gesture behavior data such as the location, pressure and contact area of finger collected by touch screen to build a behavior authentication model, which did not consider the influence of user's posture on user's gesture behavior. This paper aims to propose a gesture authentication construction method that is resilient against the change of user's posture. Firstly, for the posture behavior data collected by mobile's orientation sensor and acceleration sensor, we use K-means algorithm to get user's postures. Secondly, we train a gesture authentication sub-model for each posture based on the data collected by touch screen. Finally, we give a behavior authentication method based on these models. Our experimental result shows that the method achieves an effect of 4.36% False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and 5.03% False Rejection Rate (FRR) © 2016 IEEE.

In order to improve fault forecasting model accuracy of back propagation neural network (BPNN), an improved prediction method of optimized BPNN based on Multilevel Genetic Algorithm (MGA) was proposed. We design new chromosome with multilevel structure, improve the encoding mode, fitness function and genetic operator. Which can optimizes the initial values of weights, thresholds and the structure of BPNN synchronously. Enhancing the ability of nonlinear learning and generalization of BPNN. Case study of continuous casting equipment verified that the proposed model with higher prediction accuracy is better than classical BPNN and GA-BPNN prediction method for fault prediction. © 2016 IEEE.

A novel approach related to query expansion is proposed to improve image retrieval performance. The proposed approach investigates the problem that not all of the visual features extracted from images are appropriate to be employed for similarity matching. To address this issue, we distinguish image features as effective features from noisy features. The former is benefit for image retrieval while the latter causes deterioration, since the matching of noisy features may rise the similarity score of irrelevant images. In this work, a detailed illustration of effective and noisy features is given and the aforementioned problem is solved by selecting effective features to enhance query feature set while removing noisy features via spatial verification. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms a number of state-of-the-art query expansion approaches. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

In the classical computation theory, the language of a system features the computational behavior of the system but it does not distinguish the determinism and nondeterminism of actions. However, Milner found that the determinism and nondeterminism affect the interactional behavior of interactive systems and thus the notion of language does not features the interactional behavior. Therefore, Milner proposed the notion of (weak) bisimulation to solve this problem. With the development of internet, more and more interactive systems occur in the world, such as electronic trading system. Security is one of the most important topics for these systems. We find that different security policies can also affect the interactional behavior of a system, which exactly is the reason why a good policy can strengthen the security. In other words, two interactive systems with different security policies are not of an equivalent behavior although their functions (or business processes) are identical. However, the classic (weak) bisimulation theory draws an opposite conclusion that their behaviors are equivalent. The notion of (weak) bisimulation is not suitable for these security-oriented interactive systems since it does not consider a security policy. Path restoring is a path searching problem in the time-dependent road network with the time constraints of origin and destination. This paper proposes a path restoring algorithm to find the possible path that vehicles may have been driving along. We mined the vehicle trajectories based on historical GPS data and then build a "popular" intersection graph based on its entropy and frequency. Then the restoring path is searched on the sub-graph of the popular intersection graph. The experiment result shows that the proposed algorithm increases 10% compared to that of using timedependent fastest path method.
