Pioneering case: Robot-assisted remote radical distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer based on 5G communication technology

Background The aim of this study is to describe technical considerations and short-term outcomes of the first officially published robot-assisted remote radical distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer with 5G technology. Methods A 51-year-old gastric cancer patient with clinical stage T2N0M0 underwent 5G-enabled robot-assisted remote radical distal gastrectomy on September 11, 2023 at the Third Department of Surgery, the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University. Results The surgery procedure was successfully performed with an average total intraoperative delay of 225 ms, average round-trip delay of 30 ms and no packet loss rate. The operative time was 140 min and intraoperative blood loss was 20 ml. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 6 without any postoperative complications. Conclusion This case has preliminarily verified the feasibility and safety of 5G-enabled robot-assisted remote radical distal gastrectomy for patients with gastric cancer. The initial study fills in the gaps in related fields and lays a solid foundation for subsequent research. To verify its superior operative outcomes, further clinical trials are needed.

Soil organic matter (SOM) content plays an important part in soil environmental quality definition and should be estimated necessarily. The conventional methods for the SOM concentration assessment are mainly based on laboratory physicochemical analysis, which is costly and time consuming. Visible and near-infrared (Vis–NIR) spectroscopy offers the potential to quantify the SOM over large areas based on the soil spectral characteristics. Therefore, an innovative methodology using visible and near-infrared reflectance spectra are proposed in this work to monitoring the SOM rapidly and economically. A total of 91 soil samples and their spectral data collected in Yitong of China were utilized to characterize the relationship between the soil reflectance spectrum and SOM. First, continuum removal (CR) and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) are introduced as the pretreatment method and wavebands selection method respectively, which can amplify the weak spectral characteristic. After the preprocessing phases, Partial Least Squares (PLS), Random Forest (RF) and XGBoost are carried out to estimate the SOM and the results show that XGBoost yields the best performance with R 2 of 0.9968 on training set and 0.6831 on testing set. Finally, the distribution trend of SOM in the whole study area is mapped using the optimal CR-CARS-XGBoost model.

MISO hierarchical inference engine satisfying the law of importation with aggregation functions

Fuzzy inference engine, as one of the most important components of fuzzy systems, can obtain some meaningful outputs from fuzzy sets on input space and fuzzy rule base using fuzzy logic inference methods. In multi-input-single-output (MISO) fuzzy systems, in order to enhance the computational efficiency of fuzzy inference engine, this paper aims mainly to investigate three MISO fuzzy hierarchial inference engines employed fuzzy implications satisfying the law of importation with aggregation functions (LIA). We firstly find some aggregation functions for well-known fuzzy implications such that they satisfy LIA. The fuzzy implication satisfying LIA with respect to a given aggregation function is then characterized. Finally, three fuzzy hierarchical inference engines in MISO fuzzy systems are constructed according to aforementioned theoretical developments. Spatiotemporal Effects of Built Environment on Varying Rail Transit Station Ridership Patterns

Although many studies have explored the impacts of the built environment on rail transit station ridership, spatiotemporal heterogeneity of the effects and different ridership patterns are rarely considered. Using multi-source data from China, three direct models (DRMs) based on the geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model are proposed to reveal the spatiotemporal effects of daily, weekday hourly and weekend hourly ridership patterns. The results show that employment density, entertainment places, housing prices, and entrances/exits are the dominant variables affecting ridership in the three models;however, their effects vary in spatiotemporal ranges. For example, the positive effect of employment density decreases from Monday to Sunday, and its coefficients during the peak hours are highest in the northwest center, where is the largest technology park situated. The results also highlight the importance of bus stations and parking lots in attracting commuter ridership. The findings provide insights into urban rail transit planning. © 2022, The Authors. Central Asia (CA) faces a severe water crisis exemplified by the shrinking Aral Sea. However, little is known about the entire region, particularly the numerous small water bodies that are vulnerable to climate change yet vital for regional sustainability. We examined water bodies as small as 0.0045 km2 across CA from 1992 to 2020, identifying 66,215 water bodies in 2020, 82.2% of which were previously unstudied. In contrast to the well-documented decline of the Aral Sea, other water bodies have expanded by 10.7% (8714.3 km2), with a net gain of 15,831 lakes since 1992. These findings challenge the perception of a drying CA and provide evidence of a warm-wet climate trend, which is redistributing water resources and creating opportunities for transforming water management to address the long-standing water crisis in CA. © 2025 Science China Press

With the development of smart cities, 3D city models have expanded from simple visualization to more applications. However, the data volume of 3D city models is also increasing at the same time, which brings great pressure to data storage and visualization. Therefore, it is necessary to simplify 3D models. In this paper, a three-step simplification method is proposed. Firstly, the geometric features of the building are used to extract the walls and roof of the building separately, and then the ground plan and the single-layer roof are extracted by the K-Means clustering algorithm. Finally, the ground plan is raised to intersect with the roof polygon to form a simplified three-dimensional city model. In this paper, experiments are carried out on a certain number of 3D city models of CityGML format. The compression ratio of model data is 92.08%, the simplification result shows better than others. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

China is an agricultural country. Agricultural production is an import part of the Chinese economic system. With the advent of the information age, plenty of data have been produced in a series of links about harvest and after-harvest, such as harvest, processing, transportation, and consumption. With proper use of these data, we can dig out more and more valuable information from the data. In this paper, the relevant algorithm of machine learning is adopted and improved to predict the grain loss after extracting the data of harvesting link. Machine learning is the core of Artificial Intelligence, and its application covers all fields. In this paper, based on the traditional machine learning algorithm—decision tree, the knowledge graph is used to make appropriate improvements to predict the grain-loss after harvest. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2020.

BACKGROUND:Many studies have focused on the analysis of risk factors for lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer, but few studies analyze the drainage patterns of metastatic lymph nodes. METHODS:data was retrospectively analyzed from a database of gastric cancer resections from 2014-2018. The cohort included 786 pT1 patients with complete data. Outcomes evaluated were lymph node metastasis frequencies, survival analyses, and risk factors impacting prognosis. Lymph node mapping was conducted to explore the distribution pattern of metastatic nodes based on tumor location. RESULTS:The overall lymph node metastasis rate was 23.7%. Lymph node mapping showed that No. 7 (67.7%) and No. 3 (45.7%) group had the highest metastasis rates and regardless of tumor location, metastases were concentrated in perigastric lymph node groups (No. 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7), while involvement of second-tier station nodes was rare. The 5-year overall survival rate (54.8% vs 95.7%; P < 0.001) and disease-free survival rate (48.4% vs 95.7%; P < 0.001) of patients with node-positive disease were significantly worse than those of patients with node-negative disease. Multivariable Cox regression identified tumor size > 2cm (P = 0.007, < 0.001), poor differentiation (P = 0.007, < 0.001), T1b stage (all P < 0.001), lymph node metastasis (all P < 0.001), and vascular invasion (all P = 0.002, 0.016) as independent negative prognostic factors affecting 5-year OS and DFS in patients with early gastric cancer. Postoperative chemotherapy (P < 0.001, 0.019）was an independent positive prognostic factor. CONCLUSION:This retrospective study demonstrates that lymph node metastasis in early gastric cancer is widely and disorderly not depending on the location. Lymph node metastasis mainly occurs in the perigastric station, supporting a specific lymph node dissection strategy may be sufficient for some early gastric cancer. Over the last decade, substantial research efforts have gone into developing preconditioners for time harmonic wave propagation problems, like the Helmholtz and the time harmonic Maxwell’s equations. Excited-state quantum phase transitions in Kerr nonlinear oscillators

Excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) generalize the concept of quantum phase transitions to excited levels. Here we investigate how such ESQPTs can emerge in Kerr nonlinear oscillators, where a bosonic mode with a Kerr nonlinearity is subject to both coherent (one-photon) and parametric (two-photon) driving. We determine the structure and properties of the complete phase diagram by defining proper dimensionless parameters. Rich phases and phase transitions exist in the phase diagram, including phases with two or four critical energies above the ground-state level and first-order quantum phase transitions. We characterize the ESQPTs by singularities in the density of states, which show universal logarithmic divergence or discontinuity at the critical energies. Furthermore, we find that observables such as the photon number also exhibit singular behaviors at the critical energies and obey scaling laws. These results may extend our understanding of the driven Kerr oscillator and ESQPTs in finite-component systems.
