Face verification can be regarded as a 2-class fine-grained visual recognition problem. Enhancing the feature’s discriminative power is one of the key problems to improve its performance. Metric learning technology is often applied to address this need, while achieving a good tradeoff between underfitting and overfitting plays the vital role in metric learning. Hence, we propose a novel ensemble cascade metric learning (ECML) mechanism. In particular, hierarchical metric learning is executed in the cascade way to alleviate underfitting. Meanwhile, at each learning level, the features are split into non-overlapping groups. Then, metric learning is executed among the feature groups in the ensemble manner to resist overfitting. Considering the feature distribution characteristics of faces, a robust Mahalanobis metric learning method (RMML) with closed-form solution is additionally proposed. It can avoid the computation failure issue on inverse matrix faced by some well-known metric learning approaches (e.g., KISSME). Embedding RMML into the proposed ECML mechanism, our metric learning paradigm (EC-RMML) can run in the one-pass learning manner. Experimental results demonstrate that EC-RMML is superior to state-of-the-art metric learning methods for face verification. And, the proposed ensemble cascade metric learning mechanism is also applicable to other metric learning approaches. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

An embedded estimating equation for the additive risk model with biased-sampling data

This paper presents a novel class of semiparametric estimating functions for the additive model with right-censored data that are obtained from general biased-sampling. The new estimator can be obtained using a weighted estimating equation for the covariate coefficients, by embedding the biased-sampling data into left-truncated and right-censored data. The asymptotic properties(consistency and asymptotic normality) of the proposed estimator are derived via the modern empirical processes theory. Based on the cumulative residual processes, we also propose graphical and numerical methods to assess the adequacy of the additive risk *** good finite-sample performance of the proposed estimator is demonstrated by simulation studies and two applications of real datasets.

Consider the two-dimensional, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on torus T^2= [-π, π]^2 driven by a degenerate multiplicative noise in the vorticity formulation（abbreviated as SNS）： dwt = ν？w_tdt ＋B（Kw_t, w_t）dt ＋ Q（w_t）dW t. We prove that the solution to SNS is continuous differentiable in initial value. We use the Malliavin calculus to prove that the semigroup{P_t}_t≥0 generated by the SNS is asymptotically strong Feller. Moreover, we use the coupling method to prove that the solution to SNS has a weak form of *** almost the same Hypotheses as that given by Odasso, Prob. Theory Related Fields, 140： 41–82（2005）with a different method, we get an exponential ergodicity under a stronger norm.

The traditional blockchain has the shortcoming that a single-chain can only deal with one or a few specific data types. The research question of how to make blockchain be able to deal with various data types has not been well studied. In this paper, we propose a single-chain based extension model of blockchain for fintech (SEBF). In the financial environment, we design a four-layer architecture for this model. By employing the external trusted oracle group and a financial regulator agency, a variety types of data can be effectively stored in the blockchain, such that the data type extension based on a single-chain is realized. Variable 2-Microlocal Besov–Triebel–Lizorkin-Type Spaces

This article is devoted to the study of variable 2-microlocal Besov-type and Triebel- Lizorkin-type spaces. These variable function spaces are defined via a Fourier-analytical approach. The authors then characterize these spaces by means of Q-transforms, Peetre maximal functions, smooth atoms, ball means of differences and approximations by analytic functions. As applications, some re- lated Sobolev-type embeddings and trace theorems of these spaces are Mso established. Moreover, some obtained results, such as characterizations via approximations by analytic functions, are new even for the classical variable Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces.

Improving unsupervised domain adaptation by reducing bi-level feature redundancy

Reducing feature redundancy has shown beneficial effects for improving the accuracy of deep learning models, thus it is also indispensable for the models of unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA). Nevertheless, most recent efforts in the field of UDA ignore this point. Moreover, main schemes realizing this in general independent of UDA purely involve a single domain, thus might not be effective for cross-domain tasks. In this paper, we emphasize the significance of reducing feature redundancy for improving UDA in a bi-level way. For the first level, we try to ensure compact domain-specific features with a transferable decorrelated normalization module, which preserves specific domain information whilst easing the side effect of feature redundancy on the sequel domain-invariance. In the second level, domain-invariant feature redundancy caused by domain-shared representation is further mitigated via an alternative brand orthogonality for better generalization. These two novel aspects can be easily plugged into any BN-based backbone neural networks. Specifically, simply applying them to ResNet50 has achieved competitive performance to the state-of-the-arts on five popular benchmarks. This paper is concerned with the non-Newtonian filtration equations with non- linear sources and a time-varying delay. By an extension of Mawhin＇s continuation theorem and some analysis methods, several sufficient conditions ensuring the existence of solitary wave and periodic wave solutions are obtained. Some corresponding results in the literature are improved and extended. An example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

Adjoining Batch Markov Arrival Processes of a Markov Chain

A batch Markov arrival process（BMAP） X^＊=（N, J） is a 2-dimensional Markov process with two components, one is the counting process N and the other one is the phase process J. It is proved that the phase process is a time-homogeneous Markov chain with a finite state-space, or for short, Markov chain. In this paper,a new and inverse problem is proposed firstly： given a Markov chain J, can we deploy a process N such that the 2-dimensional process X^＊=（N, J） is a BMAP？ The process X^＊=（N, J） is said to be an adjoining BMAP for the Markov chain J. For a given Markov chain the adjoining processes exist and they are not unique. Two kinds of adjoining BMAPs have been constructed. One is the BMAPs with fixed constant batches, the other one is the BMAPs with independent and identically distributed（i.i.d） random batches. The method we used in this paper is not the usual matrix-analytic method of studying BMAP, it is a path-analytic method. We constructed directly sample paths of adjoining BMAPs. The expressions of characteristic（D_k, k = 0, 1, 2· · ·）and transition probabilities of the adjoining BMAP are obtained by the density matrix Q of the given Markov chain J. Moreover, we obtained two frontal Theorems. We present these expressions in the first time.

Practical security of continuous-variable quantum key distribution with reduced optical attenuation

In a practical continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) system, the optical attenuator can adjust the Gaussian-modulated coherent states and the local oscillator signal to an optimal value for guaranteeing the security of the system and optimizing the performance of the system. However, the performance of the optical attenuator may deteriorate due to the intentional and unintentional damage of the device. In this paper, we investigate the practical security of a CVQKD system with reduced optical attenuation. We find that the secret key rate of the system may be overestimated based on the investigation of parameter estimation under the effects of reduced optical attenuation. This opens a security loophole for Eve to successfully perform an intercept-resend attack in a practical CVQKD system. To close this loophole, we add an optical fuse at Alice's output port and design a scheme to monitor the level of optical attenuation in real time, which can make the secret key rate of the system evaluated precisely. The analysis shows that these countermeasures can effectively resist this potential attack.
