Drowsy driving is pervasive, and also a major cause of traffic accidents. Estimating a driver's drowsiness level by monitoring the electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and taking preventative actions accordingly may improve driving safety. However, individual differences among different drivers make this task very challenging. A calibration session is usually required to collect some subject-specific data and tune the model parameters before applying it to a new subject, which is very inconvenient and not user-friendly. Many approaches have been proposed to reduce the calibration effort, but few can completely eliminate it. This paper proposes a novel approach, feature weighted episodic training (FWET), to completely eliminate the calibration requirement. It integrates two techniques: feature weighting to learn the importance of different features, and episodic training for domain generalization. Experiments on EEG-based driver drowsiness estimation demonstrated that both feature weighting and episodic training are effective, and their integration can further improve the generalization performance. FWET does not need any labelled or unlabelled calibration data from the new subject, and hence could be very useful in plugand-play brain-computer interfaces. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) constitutes an essential and promising paradigm that relies programmable wireless environment and provides capability for space-intensive communications, due to the use of low-cost massive reflecting elements over the entire surfaces of man-made structures. However, accurate channel estimation is a fundamental technical prerequisite to achieve the huge performance gains from RIS. By leveraging the low rank structure of RIS channels, three practical residual neural networks, named convolutional blind denoising network, convolutional denoising generative adversarial networks and multiple residual dense network, are proposed to obtain accurate channel state information, which can reflect the impact of different methods on the estimation performance. Simulation results reveal the evolution direction of these three methods and reveal their superior performance compared with existing benchmark schemes. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. A hybrid algorithm that integrates PSO with Lagrangian relaxation is proposed for solving the multidimensional knapsack problem (MKP). An efficiency measure for MKP based on the LR dual information is defined to combine the object function and the constraints of the MKP together. The efficiency measure is used to determine the core problem for MKP with the aim of reducing the problem scale. Then a hybrid algorithm combines the Quantum Particle Swarm Optimization with a local search method is presented to solve the core problem. Numerical experiments are made on certain knapsack problems and computational results show that the proposed algorithm is very promising. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Modern industrial equipment plays a vital role in the operation of large industrial systems. Accurate prediction of its remaining useful life will greatly reduce the possibility of unsafe accidents. The internal structure of modern industrial equipment is very complex, and a variety of state monitoring data affect the remaining useful life of the equipment, and the mutual influence between different monitoring data has greatly increased the difficulty of remaining useful life prediction. In this paper, the long short-term memory network in deep learning is used to solve this problem. The long short-term memory network has many advantages in time series prediction. The remaining useful life prediction model of industrial equipment based on long short-term memory network and multivariable monitoring data is established, and aiming at the characteristics of multivariable monitoring data, Mini-batch Gradient Descent algorithm (MBGD) is adopted to train the network. Finally, the engine monitoring data set provided by the NASA prediction center is used to verify the algorithm. The data set is divided into training set and test set, the training set is put into the long short-term memory network to get the prediction model, and then the remaining useful life prediction is carried out by the test set. The prediction accuracy and generalization ability of the algorithm are verified by predicting the remaining useful life of three different turbofan engines. © 2018 IEEE.

For collaborative representation based image classification methods, it is very important to represent the image well. In this paper, we propose a novel representation method called discriminative competitive representation(DCR) for image classification. It divides the set of all training samples into two competitive subsets to represent a test sample, and then uses the representation result to perform classification. This method can obtain an approximate representation of a test sample and enable representation components to be discriminative and competitive, which is beneficial to correct classification of the test sample. Specifically, the main idea of the DCR method is that it makes test set and training set have low correlation. One notable advantage of the DCR method is that it exploits a mathematically tractable way to obtain discrimination of classes. The image classification experiments show that the DCR method can obtain a higher accuracy than conventional sparse representation methods.

The axle temperature is an important performance index for high-speed train axle, and many types of high-precision detection device have been developed. However, because the existing hotbox detection system works by comparing the measured value with fixed and experiential temperature thresholds, without considering the dynamic influence of running environment, the rates of fault and failure alarm are still high. Regarding this problem, this paper is to realize high precision fault diagnosis. Firstly, the characteristics of the temperature rising rates of all axles, the axles on the same side of a carriage, the axles on the same side of a whole train are analyzed. Secondly, the support vector machine (SVM) is employed to establish a data-based fault diagnosis model, and the model is optimized using genetic algorithm. Finally, the proposed method is applied to an actual running data, the analysis results demonstrated the effectiveness and feasibility. © 2018 IEEE.

Electrospinning has exhibited excellent benefits to treat the trauma for tissue engineering due to its produced micro/nano fibrous structure. It can effectively adhere to the tissue surface for long-term continuous therapy. This paper develops a robotic electrospinning platform for endoluminal therapy. The platform consists of a continuum manipulator, the electrospinning device, and the actuation unit. The continuum manipulator has two bending sections to facilitate the steering of the tip needle for a controllable spinning direction. Non-circular joint profile is carefully designed to enable a constant length of the centreline of a continuum manipulator for stable fluid transmission inside it. Experiments are performed on a bronchus phantom, and the steering ability and bending limitation in each direction are also investigated. The endoluminal electrospinning is also fulfilled by a trajectory following and points targeting experiments. The effective adhesive area of the produced fibre is also illustrated. The proposed robotic electrospinning shows its feasibility to precisely spread more therapeutic drug to construct fibrous structure for potential endoluminal treatments.

In this paper, the problem of non-negative edge consensus of undirected networked linear time-invariant systems is addressed by associating each edge of the network with a state variable, for which a distributed algorithm is constructed. Sufficient conditions referring only to the number of edges are derived for non-negative edge consensus of the networked systems. Subsequently, the linear programming method and a low-gain feedback technique are introduced to simplify the design of the feedback gain matrix for achieving the non-negative edge consensus. It is found that the low-gain feedback technique has a good effect on the non-negative edge consensus of the networked systems subject to input saturation. Numerical simulations are presented to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

DAmageNet: A universal adversarial dataset

It is now well known that deep neural networks (DNNs) are vulnerable to adversarial attack. Adversarial samples are similar to the clean ones, but are able to cheat the attacked DNN to produce incorrect predictions in high confidence. But most of the existing adversarial attacks have high success rate only when the information of the attacked DNN is well-known or could be estimated by massive queries. A promising way is to generate adversarial samples with high transferability. By this way, we generate 96020 transferable adversarial samples from original ones in imageNet. The average difference, measured by root means squared deviation, is only around 3.8 on average. However, the adversarial samples are misclassified by various models with an error rate up to 90%. Since the images are generated independently with the attacked DNNs, this is essentially zero-query adversarial attack. We call the dataset DAmageNet, which is the first universal adversarial dataset that beats many models trained in imageNet. By finding the drawbacks, DAmageNet could serve as a benchmark to study and improve robustness of DNNs. DAmageNet could be downloaded in http://***/Show/56/122 Copyright © 2019, The Authors.
