The self-organized criticality is a fundamental property for organisms to perform normal functional activities. Extensive large-scale biological neural network researches have found the existence of self-organized criticality through avalanche phenomenon, which is typical characteristic of self-organized criticality. However, such research method is not suitable for small-scale biological neural network, because number of neurons in small-scale biological neural network is not large enough to support the emergence of avalanche phenomenon. It has been demonstrated that branching parameter can also be used to describe the propagation of activity in the neural network. Here, in this paper, the C. elegans neural network composed of 302 neurons is selected to investigate the existence of self-organized criticality using branching parameter. Based on the obtained connectome of C. elegans, a directed graph model is constructed to simulate the gradient potential of neurons and the activity of C. elegans, then, the existence of self-organized criticality in the neural network of C. elegans is proved by using branching parameter method. Meanwhile, the result is further confirmed by analyzing the calcium activity data of C. elegans obtained from biological experiments.

Multi-level Coordinated Energy Management for Energy Hub in Hybrid Markets with Distributionally Robust Scheduling

Maintaining energy balance and economical operation is significant for multi-energy systems such as the energy hub (EH). However, it is usually challenged by the frequently changing and unpredictable uncertain parameters at different timescales. Under this scope, this paper investigates the coordinated energy management problem for day-ahead and intra-day conditions considering uncertainties of source-load and market prices concurrently. Note that the precise knowledge of distributions about uncertainties may be unaccessible before the decision-making in day-ahead phase. A two-stage chance-constrained model based on distributionally robust approach with ambiguous moment information is proposed to immunize scheduling strategies against the worst-case probability distributions. The first stage is dedicated to obtaining more energy arbitrage and operation flexibility by optimizing bidding strategies in day-ahead power, natural gas and carbon trading markets. The second stage focuses on the optimization of the worst-case expected operation cost. It provides a robust energy equipment and load scheduling strategy for the reference of subsequent intra-day arrangements. With respect to different variations of electrical and thermal components, an intra-day two-timescale coordination is implemented step by step. The energy scheduling is re-dispatched circularly to minimize the operation and penalty costs. The possible energy imbalance is also compensated by this way. As the energy management program is nonlinear, chance-constrained and multi-stage, some linearization and dual transformation techniques are designed to enhance tractability of the program. Experimental results show that the developed multi-level framework results in a carbon emission decrease of 37%, and reduces energy cost averagely 3% compared with corresponding contrasting cases. Based on the fact that there always exists error in the impulsive intensity, which leads to the fact that the coefficient is un-fixed, and in the occurrence of the impulses, we propose a new model, which is called nonlinear impulsive control system with impulse time windows and un-fixed coefficient of impulsive intensity. We find sufficient conditions for ensuring its stability by using Lypunov's method. We choose chaotic Lorenz system and Chua's system as numerical examples to show the effectiveness of the results, by employing such method, the systems are controlled.

3D Point cloud registration is still a very challenging topic due to the difficulty in finding the rigid transformation between two point clouds with partial correspondences, and it's even harder in the absence of any initial estimation information. In this paper, we present an end-to-end deep-learning based approach to resolve the point cloud registration problem. Firstly, the revised LPD-Net is introduced to extract features and aggregate them with the graph network. Secondly, the self-attention mechanism is utilized to enhance the structure information in the point cloud and the cross-attention mechanism is designed to enhance the corresponding information between the two input point clouds. Based on which, the virtual corresponding points can be generated by a soft pointer based method, and finally, the point cloud registration problem can be solved by implementing the SVD method. Comparison results in ModelNet40 dataset validate that the proposed approach reaches the state-of-the-art in point cloud registration tasks and experiment resutls in KITTI dataset validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in real applications.

This paper proposes an event-triggered model predictive control (ET-MPC) method for the three-phase inverter with output LC filter. The proposed method is developed by combining the conventional finite-control-set MPC (FCS-MPC) method and the ET control strategy. The ET control strategy incorporates a preset triggering condition based on the requirement of the regulation performance for the three-phase inverter. When the state of the three-phase inverter activates the triggering condition, FCS-MPC is triggered with the updated state so that the optimal control actions can be generated when it is necessary. If the state of the inverter is within the preset triggering condition, FCS-MPC is suspended and the control actions are held as constant. Consequently, the unnecessary online prediction, online optimization, and the corresponding control actions can be avoided. Therefore, with the tolerate regulation performance, the proposed ET-MPC can reduce the computational burden of the conventional FCS-MPC. The various simulation studies of the three-phase inverter are conducted and discussed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ET-MPC method.

Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) aims to predict perceptual image quality scores without access to reference images. State-of-the-art BIQA methods typically require subjects to score a large number of images to train a robust model. However, subjective quality scores are imprecise, biased, and inconsistent, and it is challenging to obtain a large-scale database, or to extend existing databases, because of the inconvenience of collecting images, training the subjects, conducting subjective experiments, and realigning human quality evaluations. To combat these limitations, this paper explores and exploits preference image pairs (PIPs) such as the quality of image Iais better than that of image Ibfor training a robust BIQA model. The preference label, representing the relative quality of two images, is generally precise and consistent, and is not sensitive to image content, distortion type, or subject identity;such PIPs can be generated at a very low cost. The proposed BIQA method is one of learning to rank. We first formulate the problem of learning the mapping from the image features to the preference label as one of classification. In particular, we investigate the utilization of a multiple kernel learning algorithm based on group lasso to provide a solution. A simple but effective strategy to estimate perceptual image quality scores is then presented. Experiments show that the proposed BIQA method is highly effective and achieves a performance comparable with that of state-of-the-art BIQA algorithms. Moreover, the proposed method can be easily extended to new distortion categories. © 2012 IEEE.

The performance of machine learning algorithms heavily relies on the availability of a large amount of training data. However, in reality, data usually reside in distributed parties such as different institutions and may not be directly gathered and integrated due to various data policy constraints. As a result, some parties may suffer from insufficient data available for training machine learning models. In this paper, we propose a multi-party dual learning (MPDL) framework to alleviate the problem of limited data with poor quality in an isolated party. Since the knowledge sharing processes for multiple parties always emerge in dual forms, we show that dual learning is naturally suitable to handle the challenge of missing data, and explicitly exploits the probabilistic correlation and structural relationship between dual tasks to regularize the training process. We introduce a feature-oriented differential privacy with mathematical proof, in order to avoid possible privacy leakage of raw features in the dual inference process. The approach requires minimal modifications to the existing multi-party learning structure, and each party can build flexible and powerful models separately, whose accuracy is no less than non-distributed self-learning approaches. The MPDL framework achieves significant improvement compared with state-of-the-art multi-party learning methods, as we demonstrated through simulations on real-world datasets. Considering that the system may need to meet more needs in the control process, that is, to accelerate or slow down the control intensity according to the system state, the control mode that combines the control cycle and the control method has a wider range of applications. In this paper, the model for state detection and judgment in the second half of the control cycle is studied, and appropriate measures are taken to achieve various control effects of the system. The simulation of the application example illustrates the effectiveness of the controller.

In this paper, we propose a non-Markovian quantum channel approach to mitigating the degradation of the average fidelity in continuous-variable quantum teleportation. The non-Markovian quantum channel is modeled by an augmented system, where ancillary systems are introduced to represent the internal modes of non-Markovian environments. With a proper non-Markovianity, enhanced effects of the channels on continuous-variable quantum teleportation are observed. Also, the logarithmic negativity of entangled states can be effectively maintained so that the decay of the average fidelity of quantum teleportation is mitigated. In addition, the analysis on different teleported quantum states shows that coherent states exhibit stronger robustness than those of squeezed states and cat states in quantum teleportation with a non-Markovian channel. Iterative methods for solving fixed point problems and pseudomonotone equilibrium problems have been considered. An extragradient algorithm has been presnted for finding a common element of the fixed points of pseudocontractive operators and the solutions of pseudomonotone equilibrium problems in Hilbert spaces.
