Error concealment can be regarded as a sort of error resilient coding techniques. This paper proposes a method to recover lost blocks in stereoscopic images. We first utilize the correlation to perform disparity estimation to match the corresponding blocks for lost ones. And then we calculate the boundary smooth degree (BSD) for each recovered block. If BSD exceeds the threshold, it means that the boundary is discontinuous which mainly results from high detailed blocks, edge blocks or occluded blocks. So we consider neighboring blocks' BSD and estimate the content of a lost block, and adaptively use different methods to conceal it. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can greatly improve the subjective and objective quality of the reconstructed image.

This paper presents a visual approach for distance measuring. Firstly, images are taken in different positions. Then the scaling parameter between these images could be calculated with the Fourier-Mellin transform. The Fourier-Mellin transform is successfully utilized for figuring out the scaling and rotation parameters between images, meanwhile the transform itself is translation independent. So when the images are rotated or translated, we can also get a correspondingly accurate scaling parameter. Finally, the distance from the optical center of the camera to the object can be figured out with the pinhole model by two parameters: one is the image scaling parameter;the other is the changing amount of position which is treated as a known parameter during the processing. Experimental results show that the proposed method is practical for providing satisfactory measuring results. ©2009 IEEE.

Inspired by the idiotypic network theory, a new artificial immune network classifier for SAR image is proposed in this paper. In the proposed algorithm, only one B-cell instead of many B-cells is used to denote a class so as to reduce the scale of network as well as avoid the suppression operation between B-cells;moreover, a new affinity function based on the correct rate is proposed to realize antigen priority based the evaluation strategy. The proposed algorithm has been extensively compared with Fuzzy C-means (FCM), Multiple-Valued Immune Network algorithm (MVIN), and Clonal Selection Algorithm for classifier (CSA) over two SAR images. The result of experiment indicates the superiority of the algorithm over FCM, MVIN and CSA on classification accuracy and robustness. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Pairwise constraints have been successful to be applied in traditional clustering methods. However, little progress has been made in incorporating them into spectral clustering. In this paper, we propose a new method to combine pairwise constraints with spectral clustering and apply it to SAR image segmentation. Firstly, we learn a distance metric using pairwise constraints. In doing so, an affinity matrix is obtained by the Gaussian function on the learned distance metric. Then we perform the spectral decomposition on the affinity matrix and we get the spectral features of data points. Finally, the constrained k-means is used to cluster spectral features instead of k-means used commonly. We apply the proposed method to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image segmentation. Experimental results show that it is effective for SAR image segmentation. ©2009 IEEE.

When transmitting encoded images over a communication channel, the reconstructed image quality can be substantially degraded by channel errors. This paper presents a spatial error concealment algorithm that utilizes variance of surrounding pixels, and then classifies each error block (EB) into two categories: uniform block and edge block. For uniform block, nearest border prior spatial interpolation is adopted to restore missing pixels. We use the Wiener interpolation algorithm and special interpolation sequence for edge block. Experimental results indicate the proposed algorithm can attain well restored quality of intra-frames both subjectively and objectively. Meanwhile, the computational cost of the proposed algorithm can be significantly reduced, compared to Lipsilas method. And the restored quality is almost the same, sometimes even much better.

Recently, experiments have demonstrated that simple binary arithmetic and logical operations can be computed by the process of self- assembly of DNA tiles. In this paper, we show how the tile assembly process can be used for subtraction and division. In order to achieve this aim, four systems, including the comparator system, the duplicator system, the subtraction system, and the division system, are pro- posed to compute the difference and quotient of two input numbers using the tile assembly model. This work indicates that these systems can be carried out in polynomial time with optimal O(1) distinct tile types in parallel and at very low cost. Furthermore, we provide a scheme to factor the product of two prime numbers, and it is a breakthrough in basic biological operations using a molecular computer by self-assembly.

A good distance metric for the input data is crucial in many pattern recognition and machine learning applications. Past studies have demonstrated that learning a metric from labeled samples can significantly improve the performance of classification and clustering algorithms. In this paper, we investigate the problem of learning a distance metric that measures the semantic similarity of input data for regression problems. The particular application we consider is human age estimation. Our guiding principle for learning the distance metric is to preserve the local neighborhoods based on a specially designed distance as well as to maximize the distances between data that are not in the same neighborhood in the semantic *** any assumption about the structure and the distribution of the input data, we show that this can be done by using semidefinite programming. Furthermore, the low-level feature space can be mapped to the high-level semantic space by a linear transformation with very low computational cost. Experimental results on the publicly available FG-NET database show that 1) the learned metric correctly discovers the semantic structure of the data even when the amount of training data is small and 2) significant improvement over the traditional Euclidean metric for regression can be obtained using the learned metric. Most importantly, simple regression methods such as k nearest neighbors (kNN), combined with our learned metric, become quite competitive (and sometimes even superior) in terms of accuracy when compared with the state-of-the-art human age estimation approaches. The immune system’s ability to adapt its B cells to new types of antigen is powered by processes known as clonal selection and affinity maturation. When the body is exposed to the same antigen,immune system usually calls for a more rapid and larger response to the antigen,where B cells have the function of negative adjustment. Based on the clonal selection theory and the dynamic process of immune response,two novel artificial immune system algorithms,secondary response clonal programming algorithm (SRCPA) and secondary response clonal multi-objective algorithm (SRCMOA),are presented for solving single and multi-objective optimization problems,respectively. Clonal selection operator (CSO) and secondary response operator (SRO) are the main operators of SRCPA and SRCMOA. Inspired by the clonal selection theory,CSO reproduces individuals and selects their improved maturated progenies after the affinity mat-uration process. SRO copies certain antibodies to a secondary pool,whose members do not participate in CSO,but these antibodies could be activated by some external stimulations. The update of the secondary pool pays more attention to maintain the population diversity. On the one hand,decimal-string representation makes SRCPA more suitable for solving high-dimensional function optimiza-tion problems. Special mutation and recombination methods are adopted in SRCPA to simulate the somatic mutation and receptor edit-ing process. Compared with some existing evolutionary algorithms,such as OGA/Q,IEA,IMCPA,BGA and AEA,SRCPA is shown to be able to solve complex optimization problems,such as high-dimensional function optimizations,with better performance. On the other hand,SRCMOA combines the Pareto-strength based fitness assignment strategy,CSO and SRO to solve multi-objective optimization problems. The performance comparison between SRCMOA,NSGA-Ⅱ,SPEA,and PAES based on eight well-known test problems shows that SRCMOA has better performance in converging to approximate Pareto

In the detection of change objects of SAR images, regard to the images containing high intensity noise, traditional methods will produce a considerable false alarm. This paper presents a new method of change detection based on directional information. Direction measure is proposed to suppress noises and brighten object contours. Then region blocks which contain changing objects are extracted according to the difference map of direction measure. Finally, changed objects can be obtained using the OTSU threshold method for each region block. The experimental results on SAR images demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. ©2009 IEEE.

This paper presents a new approach for norm bounded continuous-time uncertain switch systems such as BTT vehicle. Firstly, the flight trajectory has been divided into several intervals according to flight attitude. Meanwhile, the nominal model could be obtained. Secondly, based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI), combining the guaranteed cost control theory, the state feedback guaranteed cost control law is proposed. Then, to reduce the external disadvantage influence on vehicle, the RBF-NN is used to compensate the intensive aerodynamic disturbance. Finally, taking BTT vehicle as the research objective, the final results of the simulation are proved with effectiveness for the proposed design approach. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
