In this paper, we improve the soft-threshold by using Markov random field (MRF) theory to preserve the edges of images. According to MRF theory, the similarity problem of the edge structure can be transformed into an energy function minimization problem. Through computing all the energies of the edge structures in clique c, we can find the edge structure with the minimum energy, and regard it as the edge structure of this place. In this way, we can gain the edge information of an image. Here we detect the edge of image in wavelet domain. In our method we preserve the wavelet coefficients which belong to edge set; for the other wavelet coefficients, the soft threshold method is applied. Then, we reconstruct the treated wavelet coefficients by using inverse wavelet transform. The experiment result shows that our method is better than the hard threshold and soft threshold method. It will not only smooth away noise, but also preserve the edge of image.

A novel face tracking algorithm is proposed which is less insensitive to large face appearance variation caused by lighting and viewpoints. The proposed dynamic face appearance model includes an illumination invariant pose manifold to represent the pose nonlinearity and an object-specific incremental multi-pose face model. The pose manifold is built with the patch alignment algorithm, where the tensor based illumination reduction is used to define the local patch. Particularly, the probability of the face belonging to the pose manifold can be used for choosing the object-specific face model. The experimental results show the face tracking model can successfully track faces under unseen poses and changing illuminations.

How to make full use of the limited energy available and prolonging the survival time of node is a major concern in research on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). This paper presented an improved approach based on Directed Diffusion Protocol (DDP) which could meet the features of WSN, such as data-oriented, many-to-one transmissions and low energy costs, together with data aggregation mechanisms which emphasized on cascading timeouts, to eliminate the redundancy caused by the transmission of large amounts of data. This modified protocol prohibited the direct forwarding of central nodes, balancing data traffic of different sensors between the source and the sink, and proved to be able of reducing total network flows, energy consumptions and prolonging the lifetime of the network through simulations.

This paper proposes an image coding method based on adaptive downsampling which not only uses the pixel redundancy but also considers visual redundancy. At the encoder side, codec adaptively chooses some smooth regions of the original image to downsample, and then overlapped transform with selectivity, block DCT and adaptive-shape DCT (SA-DCT) are used against the image after being downsampled. For the incomplete transformed image, OB-SPECK is adopted to code. At the decoder side, in order to reduce the computational complexity, we use the simple cubic interpolation which not only is very suitable to the downsampled regions but also enhances greatly the real time of this coding system. Experimental results show the proposed method outperforms JPEG2000, SPECK, SPIHT, and LT+SPECK at low bit rates.

By inspiration of the granular evolutionary algorithm, a Granular Agent Evolutionary algorithm for Classification (GAEC) is proposed. The method uses the granular agent to denote the set of examples that have similar attributions and the knowledge base guides the evolutionary of granular agent. Also some granular evolutionary operators are designed for classification problem. Assimilation operator, exchange operator, and differentiation operator reflect the competitive, cooperative and self-learning ability of agent respectively. Finally, some classification rules are extracted from granular agents by some strategies to forecast the sort of new data. Empirical studies show that the algorithm has a good classification prediction, and only need a small price for the training time. In most UCI datasets, the performance of GAEC is better than G-NET, OCEC and C4.5, which have good performance.
