image Signature Based Mean Square Error for image Quality Assessment

Motivated by the importance of Human visual system(HVS) in image processing, we propose a novel image signature based mean square error(ISMSE)metric for full reference image quality assessment(IQA).Efficient image signature based describer is used to predict visual saliency map of the reference image. The saliency map is incorporated into luminance difference between the reference and distorted images to obtain image quality score. The effect of luminance difference on visual quality with larger saliency value which is usually corresponding to foreground objects is highlighted. Experimental results on LIVE database release 2 show that by integrating the effects of image signature based saliency on luminance difference, the proposed ISMSE metric outperforms several state-of-the-art HVS-based IQA metrics but with lower complexity.

Revisiting Euclidean Alignment for Transfer Learning in EEG-Based Brain-Computer Interfaces

Due to the non-stationarity and large individual differences of EEG signals, EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) usually need subject-specific calibration to tailor the decoding algorithm for each new subject, which is time-consuming and user-unfriendly, hindering their real-world applications. Transfer learning (TL) has been extensively used to expedite the calibration, by making use of EEG data from other subjects/sessions. An important consideration in TL for EEG-based BCIs is to reduce the data distribution discrepancies among different subjects/session, to avoid negative transfer. Euclidean alignment (EA) was proposed in 2020 to address this challenge. Numerous experiments from 10 different BCI paradigms demonstrated its effectiveness and efficiency. This paper revisits the EA, explaining its procedure and correct usage, introducing its applications and extensions, and pointing out potential new research directions. It should be very helpful to BCI researchers, especially those who are working on EEG signal decoding. © 2025, CC BY.

Tissue P Systems with Look-Ahead Mode

Tissue P systems are a class of distributed and parallel computing models inspired from inter-cellular communication and cooperation between cells. In this work, a variant of tissue P system, named tissue P system with look-ahead mode, is discussed for decreasing the inherent non-determinism of tissue P systems and helping implementing tissue P systems on computers. Such systems are proved to be universal by simulating register machine, and they are also proved to be able to efficiently solve computationally hard problems by means of a space-time tradeoff, which is illustrated with a polynomial solution to 3-coloring problem.

C2P-Net: Comprehensive Depth Map to Planar Depth Conversion for Room Layout Estimation

Room layout estimation seeks to infer the overall spatial configuration of indoor scenes using perspective or panoramic images. As the layout is determined by the dominant indoor planes, this problem inherently requires the reconstruction of these planes. Some studies reconstruct indoor planes from perspective images by learning pixel-level or instance-level plane parameters. However, directly learning these parameters has the problems of susceptibility to occlusions and position dependency. In this paper, we introduce the Comprehensive depth map to Planar depth (C2P) conversion, which reformulates planar depth reconstruction into the prediction of a comprehensive depth map and planar visibility confidence. Based on the parametric representation of planar depth we propose, the C2P conversion is applicable to both panoramic and perspective images. Accordingly, we present an effective framework for room layout estimation that jointly learns the comprehensive depth map and planar visibility confidence. Due to the differentiability of the C2P conversion, our network autonomously learns planar visibility confidence by constraining the estimated plane parameters and reconstructed planar depth map. We further propose a novel approach for 3D layout generation through sequential planar depth map integration. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our method across all evaluated panoramic and perspective datasets. © 1979-2012 IEEE.

Omnidirectional image quality assessment (OIQA) has become an increasingly vital problem in recent years. Most previous blind OIQA methods only extract local features from the distorted viewports, or extract global features from the entire distorted image, lacking the interaction and fusion between local and global features. Moreover, the lack of reference information also limits their performance. Thus, we propose a blind OIQA model which consists of three novel modules, including a bidirectional pseudo-reference module, a Mamba-based global feature extraction module, and a multi-scale local-global feature aggregation module. Specifically, by considering the image distortion degradation process, a bidirectional pseudo-reference module capturing the error maps on viewports is first constructed to refine the multi-scale local visual features, which can supply rich quality degradation reference information without the reference image. To well complement the local features, the VMamba module is adopted to extract the representative multi-scale global visual features. Inspired by human hierarchical visual perception characteristics, a novel multi-scale aggregation module is built to strengthen the feature interaction and effective fusion which can extract deep semantic information. Finally, motivated by the multi-task managing mechanism of human brain, a multi-task learning module is introduced to assist the main quality assessment task by digging the hidden information in compression type and distortion degree. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance on the blind OIQA task compared to other models. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Theoretical perspective for carbazole fusion effect on multiple resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescent properties

Multiple resonance (MR) type thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) molecules are attracting attention for their narrowband emission, high luminescence efficiency, and high exciton utilization rate. Designing and studying these molecules has become an important direction for developing organic electroluminescent devices. Despite the significant potential in practical applications, developing long-wavelength emitting MR-TADF molecules remains a major challenge. This paper employs quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) methods and the thermal vibration correlation function (TVCF) theory to study the luminescent properties of two MR-TADF molecules, asymmetric donor BNIP-tBuCz and symmetric donor BNDIP, in doped thin films. The calculations reveal that both molecules, while maintaining MR characteristics, possess small HOMO and LUMO energy gaps, enabling long-wavelength emission. Compared to BNIP-tBuCz, BNDIP has a slightly higher degree of conjugation and a greater proportion of π-π∗ transitions. Additionally, the transition dipole moment density and transition dipole moment in BNDIP are significantly enhanced, increasing the radiative rate. Both BNIP-tBuCz and BNDIP maintain similar porosity in thin films;however, BNIP-tBuCz is more sensitive to the aggregated environment. Stronger intermolecular interactions in BNDIP effectively suppress out-of-plane methyl wagging vibrations in low-frequency modes and C=C stretching vibrations in high-frequency modes, reducing reorganization energy and inhibiting the loss of non-radiative energy in the excited state. Furthermore, BNDIP's smaller energy gap between T1 and S1 (ΔEST) and its reorganization energy facilitate a faster reverse intersystem crossing rate (kRISC). Energy transfer characteristics are also studied using the semi-empirical Marcus theory. Single-Loop Deadbeat Predictive Control Framework for Uncertain SPMSM Drives With Disturbance Observation

To mitigate the detrimental effects of parameter perturbations and external load torque on the accuracy of speed and current tracking control in surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) drive systems, while avoiding the complexities inherent in traditional speed-current series control architectures, this paper presents a single-loop deadbeat predictive control (SDPC) framework that incorporates online disturbance observation. The control input voltage vector is directly computed using an SDPC controller in conjunction with a set of discrete-time disturbance observers (DDOBs). This proposed methodology offers two notable advantages over existing research: (i) it substantially reduces the number of adjustable controller parameters, requiring only the tuning of the observer bandwidth and the speed scaling gain, which enhances its practicality for engineering applications;and (ii) the disturbance estimation and compensation mechanism utilizing DDOBs significantly improves the robustness of the SPMSM system. Furthermore, the SDPC framework ensures that the system maintains satisfactory transient and steady-state tracking performance in response to reference signals. Experimental comparisons validate both the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method. © 2015 IEEE.

In online shopping, a person’s interest in a product is closely related to whether they will purchase it Analyzing people’s interest in various products on time, along with product recommendations, can increase purchase rates. However, in many cases, We only know user implicit feedback, such as browsing or favoriting items, and cannot directly access user explicit feedback, such as product ratings. Moreover, users have limited exposure to products, resulting in a sparse user-item matrix. The traditional Alternating Least Squares (ALS) algorithm can partially address the is of of matrix sparsity but its accuracy in recommending products based on implicit feedback alone is insufficient. This paper proposes an improved ALS algorithm that converts implicit feedback into explicit ratings. We calculate the browsing frequency of a product based on user browsing counts. For a given product, we represent user preference by suimming the browsing frequencies of all products with browsing frequencies less than or equal to that of the product. Then, by multiplying the preference level by the product’s maximum rating, we derive a product rating, achieving a transformation from implicit feedback to explicit scores. Additionally, traditional collaborative filtering algorithms often use offline data, which may not align with user current preferences. To improve the algorithm’s accuracy, we also utilize Flink for real-time data processing, allowing us to capture the most recent feedback data. This study tests the approach using the UserBehavior dataset from the publicly available Tianchi dataset. Experimental results indicate improvements in both Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE).

A Gaze-Guided Human Locomotion Intention Recognition and Volitional Control Method for Knee-Ankle Prostheses

This paper presents a novel gaze-guided volitional control method for knee-ankle prostheses, designed to enhance the precision and intuitiveness of prosthetic control in complex locomotion tasks. The method utilizes an eye-tracking system coupled with an RGBD camera to estimate 3D gaze points, which are then used to construct a gaze attention map. This map serves as the basis for predicting human locomotion intentions, enabling the prosthesis to accurately step on the intended foot placement. Experimental validation was conducted with both a healthy subject and an amputee subject, focusing on level-ground walking and stair ascent tasks. The results demonstrated that the prosthesis could achieve precise foot placement, with a mean error of 1.22 cm ± 3.14 cm for the healthy subject and 3.40 cm ± 0.66 cm for the amputee subject during level-ground walking. In stair ascent tasks, the system successfully adapted to various gait patterns, with the prosthetic joint angles closely matching natural human movements. The proposed method also effectively reduced the root mean square error (RMSE) of 3D gaze estimation to 2.70 cm, 2.63 cm, and 1.97 cm along the x, y, and z axes, respectively. These findings indicate that the gaze-guided volitional control method not only enhances the functionality of knee-ankle prostheses but also offers a more intuitive interface for users, aligning prosthetic actions with the user’s visual focus and intentions. © 2016 IEEE.

Mixture-of-Experts for Open Set Domain Adaptation: A Dual-Space Detection Approach

Open Set Domain Adaptation (OSDA) copes with the distribution and label shifts between the source and target domains simultaneously, performing accurate classification for known classes while identifying unknown class samples in the target domain. Most existing OSDA approaches, depending on the final image feature space of deep models, require manually-tuned thresholds, and may easily misclassify unknown samples as known classes. Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) could be a remedy. Within an MoE, different experts handle distinct input features, producing unique expert routing patterns for various classes in a routing feature space. As a result, unknown class samples may display different expert routing patterns to known classes. This paper proposes Dual-Space Detection, which exploits the inconsistencies between the image feature space and the routing feature space to detect unknown class samples without any threshold. A Graph Router is further introduced to better make use of the spatial information among the image patches. Experiments on three datasets validated the effectiveness and superiority of our approach. © 2020 IEEE.
