Compared with traditional video summarization approaches, aerial video summarization is a new and challenging issue for its particular characteristics. Aerial video data is a massive data stream, without pre-edit structures such as sports or news video data, lack of camera motion such as zoom and pan. On account of these characteristics, we proposed a novel approach for summarization. First, we extract GIST features for each frame as the holistic scene representation. Then, we divide aerial video into temporal segments representing a visual scene using on-line clustering method by examine GIST features of each frame only once. Finally, we select several key frames from each scene for summarization according to visual saliency index (VSI) of each frame computed from their visual saliency map. In the paper, we proposed new criterion for estimation of temporal segmentation of streaming video. Experimental observations show the success of our approach on aerial video summarization. © 2011 IEEE.

In Ultrasound imaging, speckle noise is the most serious problem which affects the performance of images. Non-local mean filter is a nice method to remove the speckle noise, but the algorithm' computational complexity makes it's a highly time-consuming method. In many applications like image-guided surgical intervention, real-time de-noising is required. This paper implements a NLM method accelerated by GPU for real-time denoising of 3D ultrasound images. The experimental results show the proposed accelerated de-noising method is efficient in terms of denoising quality and real-time. © 2011 IEEE.

In formal language theory of two-dimensions, 2D picture grammars are powerful tools to generate picture languages. In this work, we incorporate the idea of membrane systems (also called P systems) into 2D picture grammars, thus introducing a new kind of picture language generating devices, named P systems with 2D picture grammars. Inspired by the structure and functioning of living cells, such a system has a hierarchical membrane structure, symbol array objects and evolution rules of 2D picture grammars. In each region delimited by the membrane structure, array objects can evolve in a parallel manner according to evolution rules present in the region, like the way biochemical objects evolve in living cells or organisms. The computational result of P system with 2D picture grammars is the set of pictures (rectangular arrays) present in a specific output membrane when the system halts. We obtain several comparison results, which show that with the membrane structure, the generating power of Siromoney matrix grammar, 2D contextfree grammar and basic puzzle grammar can be enlarged. © 2011 IEEE.

-Gain analysis of event-triggered networked control systems: a discontinuous Lyapunov functional approach

In this paper, the problems of exponential stability and -gain analysis of event-triggered networked control systems (NCSs) with network-induced delays are studied. We first propose event-triggering conditions in the sensor side and controller side, respectively. Because the implementation of our event-triggering scheme only needs periodic supervision of the system state at the constant sampling instants, instead of being monitored continuously, it is expected that the scheme will improve the resource utilization. Taking the network-induced delays into account and using delay system approach, we constructed a unified model of NCSs with hybrid event-triggering schemes. On the basis of this model, sufficient conditions for the exponential stability and -gain analysis are developed in the form of LMIs by using a discontinuous Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional approach. Moreover, the corresponding results can be further extended to more general cases, where the system matrices of the considered plant contain parameter uncertainties, represented in either polytopic or norm-bounded frameworks. In addition, as a special case, we also present the exponential stability, -gain analysis, and the control feedback gain design of event-triggered NCSs without considering the effects of network-induced delays and event-triggering condition in the controller side. The intersecting cortical model(ICM) is driven from the pulse-coupled neural networks (PCNN), and a lot of works have been done on it. In this paper, we have proposed a method, which is modified from the PCNN, to retrieval the image. This method uses the iteration times of the ICM as the feature, and we do it repeatedly. So we will get the feature vectors and utilize the features to retrieval the image. And the experimental results have proved the effectiveness of the proposed method. While the proposed method shows some advantages like the feature curves are linear and steady. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents an algorithm to find the shortest path in 3D(three-dimensional) prostate surgery planning. Using a simplified delay pulse coupled neural network(S-DPCNN) model, a shortest path can be drawn automatically from the target position to the puncture point. Compared to the traditional pulse coupled neural network(PCNN), S-DPCNN needs much fewer neurons and therefore decreases complexity of computation. Experiments on computer simulations show the validity of this method. © 2011 IEEE.

On one hand, basic principles of these geometric active contour models are presented. So far, all of the approximate Jacobian controllers for robot manipulators proposed in the literatures have assumed that the exact joint velocity measurements are available. In this paper, we propose alternative controller designs without the use of joint velocity measurements. To provide the joint velocities used by the controllers, we introduce the well-known sliding mode observers to estimate the robot manipulator states. In addition, Lyapunov analysis is presented to show that the combined controller-observer designs can achieve asymptotical stability in the sliding patch. Simulation results are also presented to show the performance of the proposed methods. © 2011 IEEE.

Dynamic focus and dynamic aperture applied on both transmit and receive aperture can provide the best possible quality of the B-mode ultrasound image, which is called a "gold standard" image. However, they are implemented only on the receive beam in most medical ultrasound systems because the application of dynamic focus on the transmit beam will reduce the frame rate severely, which has great medical importance especially when tissue motion needs to be considered. Recently, a specific transmit aperture function has been proposed to achieve uniform transmit energy distribution on the axis over a large depth without reducing the frame rate. Although it can maintain the uniformity of the transmit energy on the axis, the energy distribution off the axis of the transmit beam is not satisfactory, meaning a wider main lobe width and higher side lobe levels compared with some general aperture functions such as rectangular and hamming functions. To suppress the interference signals originating from the targets on the side and grating lobes, we processed the received echo signals using the phase coherence imaging method (PCI), which is an adaptive receive aperture weighting technique presented in the recent literatures. Experimental results show that the uniform sensitivity along the axis range has been achieved and image quality on spatial and contrast resolution improved when we use the transmit aperture function combined with PCI. © 2011 IEEE.

A three dimensional transrectal ultrasound imaging system has been developed. The proposed system is aimed at monitoring for the prostate and providing three-dimensional ultrasound image for prostate biopsy and therapy. The device contains mechanical device and control circuit for the rotation of the probe. In addition, a two dimensional ultrasound machine for 2D ultrasound imaging is used and the software system for the reconstruction of three-dimensional ultrasound image based on PC is developed. Experiments are performed in phantom to validate our prototype. The 3D scan of the agar phantom produces minimal geometric distortion. In the future, our system will be tested on patients. © 2011 IEEE.
