Depth and ego-motion estimations are essential for the localization and navigation of autonomous robots and autonomous driving. Recent studies make it possible to learn the per-pixel depth and ego-motion from the unlabeled monocular video. A novel unsupervised training framework is proposed with 3D hierarchical refinement and augmentation using explicit 3D geometry. In this framework, the depth and pose estimations are hierarchically and mutually coupled to refine the estimated pose layer by layer. The intermediate view image is proposed and synthesized by warping the pixels in an image with the estimated depth and coarse pose. Then, the residual pose transformation can be estimated from the new view image and the image of the adjacent frame to refine the coarse pose. The iterative refinement is implemented in a differentiable manner in this paper, making the whole framework optimized uniformly. Meanwhile, a new image augmentation method is proposed for the pose estimation by synthesizing a new view image, which creatively augments the pose in 3D space but gets a new augmented 2D image. The experiments on KITTI demonstrate that our depth estimation achieves state-of-the-art performance and even surpasses recent approaches that utilize other auxiliary tasks. Our visual odometry outperforms all recent unsupervised monocular learning-based methods and achieves competitive performance to the geometry-based method, ORB-SLAM2 with back-end optimization. Preserving details and avoiding high computational costs are the two main challenges for the High-Resolution Salient Object Detection (HRSOD) task. In this paper, we propose a two-stage HRSOD model from the perspective of evolution and succession, including an evolution stage with Low-resolution Location Model (LrLM) and a succession stage with High-resolution Refinement Model (HrRM). The evolution stage achieves detail-preserving salient objects localization on the low-resolution image through the evolution mechanisms on supervision and feature; the succession stage utilizes the shallow high-resolution features to complement and enhance the features inherited from the first stage in a lightweight manner and generate the final high-resolution saliency prediction. Besides, a new metric named Boundary-Detail-aware Mean Absolute Error (MAEBD) is designed to evaluate the ability to detect details in high-resolution scenes. Extensive experiments on five datasets demonstrate that our network achieves superior performance at real-time speed (49 FPS) compared to state-of-the-art methods. This paper proposes a joint gain and input design method for observer-based asymptotic active fault diagnosis, which is based on a newly-defined notion named the excluding degree of the origin from a zonotope. Using the excluding degree, a quantitative specification is obtained to characterize the performance of set-based robust fault diagnosis. Furthermore, a single gain design method and a joint gain and input design method are proposed, respectively. This is the first work to achieve a joint observer gain and input design for set-based active fault diagnosis. Compared with the existing methods that design gains and input separately, the proposed joint gain and input design method has advantages to exploit the fault diagnosis potential of observer-based schemes. Traffic light is the most significant component of road transportation. Traffic lights control the traffic movement at intersections by allowing the movement of some lanes and forbidding that of the others to ensure safety and efficiency. It is important for intelligent vehicles to understand the meaning of traffic lights. Conventional research works on traffic light detection and tracking consider each light independently, so the occlusion of some lights may mislead the decision of the vehicle. Since all traffic lights at an intersection work together, it is more essential to understand the traffic movement status controlled by the traffic lights rather than the perception of a single light. Therefore, this paper proposes a spatial-temporal-rule-based framework to interpret the current traffic movement status and predict the next status. The spatial information, including position and class, is obtained by traffic light detection. The temporal information is perceived by the proposed topologic-feature-based tracking method. The rule information is recognized by combination of spatial and temporal information. A dual-view camera system consisting of a telephoto camera and a wide-angle camera is adopted to ensure long perception distance and wide coverage simultaneously. The successful tracking of traffic lights from 200 m to 10 m away provides enough data to recognize the phase-change rule, which leads to correct interpretation and prediction. A customized dataset was collected, and experiments were conducted to illustrate the capability of the proposed method.

The fault-tolerant consensus of linear singular multi-agent systems (SMASs) is studied in this paper. Firstly, a general dynamic adaptive event-triggered mechanism (ETM) is proposed, and its special cases include the existing dynamic ETM and static ETM. Then, based on this dynamic ETM, a new distributed dynamic adaptive event-triggered fault-tolerant controller (DAETFTC) is designed. Then the consensus problem is discussed for the linear SMASs via the proposed DAETFTC. Moreover, we establish novel sufficient conditions to ensure that all agents of the linear SMAS can reach consensus asymptotically. In addition, it is prove that Zeno behavior can be strictly excluded. Finally, the obtained results are simulated by a numerical example. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the mathematical model of dual-quadrotor suspension system is established, and the high-order fully-actuated (HOFA) model of the system is derived. Then the direct parametric control method of HOFA nonlinear systems is used to design a controller of the dual-quadrotor suspension system. Simulation results about tracking a circle of the suspension system are presented, which show that HOFA controller have good control effects with relatively smaller tracking errors, while the thrusts of the two quadrotors are within a reasonable range. Compared with a benchmark PD controller in [1], the HOFA controller designed in this paper can mitigate the drastic oscillation in positions of the quadrotor and the load, while the fluctuation of the load attitudes are maintained within a reasonable range.

In this letter, we analyze the performance tradeoff in distributed integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) networks. Specifically, with the aid of stochastic geometry theory, we derive the probability of detection of that of the coverage given user number. Based on the analytical derivations, we provide a quantitative description of the performance limits and the performance trade-off between sensing and communication in a distributed ISAC network under the given transmit power and bandwidth budget. Distributed urban freeway traffic optimization considering congestion propagation

Traffic optimization strategies are imperative for improving the performance of transportation networks. Most traffic optimization strategies only depend on traffic states of congested road segments, where congestion propagation is neglected. Therefore, we propose a distributed traffic optimization strategy for urban freeways considering the potential congested road segments caused by congestion propagation, called potential-homogeneous-area (PHA). Utilizing the historical traffic density data, we firstly quantify the effect of congestion propagation and identify PHA by applying the proposed spatio-temporal lambda-connectedness method. Meanwhile, dynamic capacity constraints of PHA are determined and are integrated with cell transmission model (CTM) in a centralized traffic optimization problem. To reduce computational complexity and improve scalability, we then propose a doubleconsensus- based alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm (DC-ADMM) to handle the neighbor coupling constraints and global coupling constraints for solving the problem in a fully distributed way. We prove that the proposed DC-ADMM algorithm converges to the optimal solution in the condition of convex objective function. Finally, simulations based on real traffic density data, collected in Inner Ring Road, Shanghai, China, reveal the effectiveness of our proposed strategy. © 2021, CC BY.

Spatial public goods games on any population structure

Understanding the emergence of cooperation in spatially structured populations has advanced significantly in the context of pairwise games, but the fundamental theory of group-based public goods games (PGGs) remains less explored. Here, we provide theoretical conditions under which cooperation thrive in spatial PGGs on any population structure, which are accurate under weak selection. We find that PGGs can support cooperation across all kinds of model details and on almost all network structures in contrast to pairwise games. For example, a class of networks that would otherwise fail to produce cooperation, such as star graphs, are particularly conducive to cooperation in spatial PGGs. This fundamental advantage of spatial PGGs derives from reciprocity through second-order interactions, allowing local structures such as the clustering coefficient to play positive roles. We also verify the robustness of spatial PGGs on empirical networks where pairwise games cannot support cooperation, which implies that PGGs could be a universal interaction mode in real-world systems. © 2024, CC BY.

It has been previously shown that intensity and volume features of the hippocampus from MR images of the brain are useful in detecting the abnormality and consequently candidacy of the hippocampus for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) surgery. In this paper, we have studied and compared volume and texture features of hippocampus for TLE lateralization. Volume and some features describing the intensity non-uniformities are used. We use manual segmentation of the hippocampi from T1 weighted images and map them to the FLAIR images. Wavelet features as well as mean and variance of the hippocampus intensities of the FLAIR slices are used as texture features. A dataset of 55 patients with 28 right and 27 left abnormal sides was used in the experiments.
