The rapid development of data centers (DCs) leads to a huge challenge in their energy consumption and environmental impact. It is promising to establish data center microgrid (DCMG) with renewable energy generation and waste heat recovery system to address these issues. However, the efficient energy management of DCMG is to be pursued. In this paper, we propose a multi-criteria optimal operation framework for the DCMG, considering coordinated scheduling of energy supply and demand. In this framework, multiple criteria are comprehensively considered via a multi-criteria optimization (MCO) approach. Then, we adopt the augmented e-constraint algorithm to address the corresponding MCO problem. Afterwards, a balanced decision making method is further proposed to determine the optimal scheduling solution. Finally, case study and results analysis verify the effectiveness of proposed multi-criteria optimal operation framework for the DCMG.

In this paper, a new integrated scheme is proposed to accurately predict breast cancer, help doctors make early diagnosis and treatment plans, and improve the prognosis of patients. We selects five mainstream machine learning models: support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and adaptive boosting (AdaBoost). The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Database (WBCD) and Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer (WDBC) are used as datasets to investigate the predictive performance of these single and ensemble models. Then, we use multiple linear regression method for feature selection (FS), the experimental results show that the change of feature subset will significantly affect the performance of the model. After that, we apply whale optimization algorithm (WOA) to optimize the hyperparameters of the model to improve their prediction performance. In addition, we ensemble these models by stacking, investigate the performance changes of the ensemble model when different models are used as meta learners. Finally, the FS-WOA-Stacking model achieves 99.56% accuracy on WBCD and 99.65% accuracy on WDBC. Compared with the existing breast cancer prediction models, the performance of the proposed model is at an excellent level. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Privacy leakage and Byzantine failures are two adverse factors to the intelligent decision-making process of multiagent systems (MASs). Considering an unsafe MAS with these two issues, this paper targets the resolution of a class of nonconvex optimization problems under the Polyak-Lojasiewicz (P-L) condition. To address this problem, we first identify and construct the unsafe MAS model. Under this kind of unfavorable MASs, we mask the local gradients with Gaussian noises and adopt a resilient aggregation method self-centered clipping (SCC) to design a differentially private (DP) decentralized Byzantine-resilient algorithm, namely DP-SCC-PL, which simultaneously achieves differential privacy and Byzantine resilience. The convergence analysis of DP-SCC-PL is challenging since the convergence error can be contributed jointly by privacy-preserving and Byzantine-resilient mechanisms, as well as the nonconvex relaxation, which is addressed via seeking the contraction relationships among the disagreement measure of reliable agents before and after SCC aggregation, together with the optimal gap. Theoretical results reveal that DP-SCC-PL achieves consensus among all reliable agents and sublinear (inexact) convergence with well-designed step-sizes. It has also been proved that if there are no privacy issues and Byzantine agents, then the asymptotic exact convergence can be recovered. Numerical experiments verify the utility, resilience, and differential privacy of DP-SCC-PL by tackling a nonconvex optimization problem satisfying the P-L condition under various Byzantine attacks. Our study aimed to investigate the probiotic effect of maize starch–caffeic complexes in the small intestine and colon in vitro. First, maize starch was extruded with caffeic acid, and subjected to in vitro digestion. The physicochemical properties of the complexes were explored. The undigested parts were fermented in vitro, and the structural characteristics, short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and microbiota communities were investigated. The results showed that caffeic acid could reduce the long/short-range order of maize starch after extrusion, and the level of resistant starch was significantly increased to 30.35±2.36%. In vitro fermentation, the amorphous area of the digestive residues is utilized and then the crystalline area by microbiota, and promoted the production of SCFAs. Furthermore, the digestive residue promoted the growth of Bifidobacterium and Lactococcus genus. In general, the probiotic properties of extruded maize starch with caffeic acid might be a potential functional food substance for body health. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Complex networked systems, which range from biological systems in the natural world to infrastructure systems in the human-made world, can exhibit spontaneous recovery after a failure; for example, a brain may spontaneously return to normal after a seizure, and traffic flow can become smooth again after a jam. Previous studies on the spontaneous recovery of dynamical networks have been limited to undirected networks. However, most real-world networks are directed. To fill this gap, we build a model in which nodes may alternately fail and recover, and we develop a theoretical tool to analyze the recovery properties of directed dynamical networks. We find that the tool can accurately predict the final fraction of active nodes, and the prediction accuracy decreases as the fraction of bidirectional links in the network increases, which emphasizes the importance of directionality in network dynamics. Due to different initial states, directed dynamical networks may show alternative stable states under the same control parameter, exhibiting hysteresis behavior. In addition, for networks with finite sizes, the fraction of active nodes may jump back and forth between high and low states, mimicking repetitive failure-recovery processes. These findings could help clarify the system recovery mechanism and enable better design of networked systems with high resilience.

Electrospinning has exhibited excellent benefits to treat the trauma for tissue engineering due to its produced micro/nano fibrous structure. It can effectively adhere to the tissue surface for long-term continuous therapy. This paper develops a robotic electrospinning platform for endoluminal therapy. The platform consists of a continuum manipulator, the electrospinning device, and the actuation unit. The continuum manipulator has two bending sections to facilitate the steering of the tip needle for a controllable spinning direction. Non-circular joint profile is carefully designed to enable a constant length of the centreline of a continuum manipulator for stable fluid transmission inside it. Experiments are performed on a bronchus phantom, and the steering ability and bending limitation in each direction are also investigated. The endoluminal electrospinning is also fulfilled by a trajectory following and points targeting experiments. The effective adhesive area of the produced fibre is also illustrated. The proposed robotic electrospinning shows its feasibility to precisely spread more therapeutic drug to construct fibrous structure for potential endoluminal treatments. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

Monosaccharide composition analysis is an essential to characterize the structure and biological activities of complex polysaccharides. However, due to the acid-induced precipitates under the acidic condition, the incomplete hydrolysis is common in monosaccharide analysis of acidic polysaccharides (especially for pectin). The main aim of this paper is to provide an improved method for pectin’s monosaccharide analysis using optimized acid hydrolysis combined with high-performance anion exchange chromatography. Firstly, the acid-induced precipitates of pectin was remitted by reducing the concentration of samples to 0.5mg/mL. Then, the optimized hydrolysis condition was performed at 110 ℃ for 6 h with 2 mol/L TFA. Finally, five acidic polysaccharides from fruits were used to optimize and validate the method and showed the method’s reproducibility and ability to analyze complicated pectic polysaccharides. It suggests that this hydrolysis method could be applied to obtain accurate quantitation of monosaccharide composition analysis for acidic polysaccharides. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Digestive Residues of Maize Starch-Caffeic Acid Complexes Significantly Change the Metabolites and Microbiota Composition During in Vitro Colon Fermentation

To investigate the effect of digestive residues of maize starch–caffeic complexes on the composition of human metabolites and gut microbiota, maize starch was extruded with caffeic acid, and subjected to in vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Then, the undigested parts were fermented with human faecal microbiota in vitro, and the morphology, short-chain fatty acids composition, microbiota communities and structural characteristics of the fermented residues were investigated. The results indicated that the amorphous area of the residues is preferentially utilized by gut microbiota and then the crystalline area. The acetate concentration in extruded maize residues with or without caffeic acid residues increased to 19.19 ± 0.40 and 23.10 ± 0.92 mmoL/L, respectively, after 24 h of fermentation. Microbiota analysis indicated that the digestive residue of maize starch-caffeic acid complexes promoted the growth of potentially beneficial microbiota, especially Bifidobacterium and Lactococcus genus. In general, extruded maize starch with caffeic acid might be a potential functional food substance for gut health. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
