Securing Mobile Robotic Networks Against Replacement Attack

The security of mobile robotic networks (MRNs) has been an active research topic in recent years. This paper aims to secure the ubiquitous formation control of MRNs against the replacement attack, where an external robot can replace a formation robot by compromising the communication and physically interfering with the victim simultaneously. To counter this advanced attack, the novel idea of this work is to leverage the physical proximity of the formation shape and the interaction topology among robots for defense design. First, from the physical proximity perspective, we propose the convex neighbor polygon (CNP) to capture the geometric characteristic of the formation robots, and design a CNP-based security mechanism for the robots during the replacement attack. Then, from the interaction perspective, we introduce the indirect controllability to characterize the possibility that the attacker leverages the interaction between robots to deactivate the CNP mechanism, and establish the conditions regarding the topology structure and the attack input to counter the replacement. Finally, based on the obtained conditions, we demonstrate how to design the initiatory topology among the formation robots to enhance the defense performance. Comparative simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Adaptively wavelet-based image denoising algorithm with edge preserving

A new wavelet-based image denoising algorithm, which exploits the edge information hidden in the corrupted image, is presented. Firstly, a canny-like edge detector identifies the edges in each subband. Secondly, multiplying the wavelet coefficients in neighboring scales is implemented to suppress the noise while magnifying the edge information, and the result is utilized to exclude the fake edges. The isolated edge pixel is also identified as noise. Unlike the thresholding method, after that we use local window filter in the wavelet domain to remove noise in which the variance estimation is elaborated to utilize the edge intbrmation. This method is adaptive to local image details, and can achieve bet, ter performance than the methods of state of the art.

MindEye-OmniAssist: A Gaze-Driven LLM-Enhanced Assistive Robot System for Implicit Intention Recognition and Task Execution

A promising effective human-robot interaction in assistive robotic systems is gaze-based control. However, current gaze-based assistive systems mainly help users with basic grasping actions, offering limited support. Moreover, the restricted intent recognition capability constrains the assistive system’s ability to provide diverse assistance functions. In this paper, we propose an open implicit intention recognition framework powered by Large Language Model (LLM) and Vision Foundation Model (VFM), which can process gaze input and recognize user intents that are not confined to predefined or specific scenarios. Furthermore, we implement a gaze-driven LLM-enhanced assistive robot system (MindEye-OmniAssist) that recognizes user’s intentions through gaze and assists in completing task. To achieve this, the system utilizes open vocabulary object detector, intention recognition network and LLM to infer their full intentions. By integrating eye movement feedback and LLM, it generates action sequences to assist the user in completing tasks. Real-world experiments have been conducted for assistive tasks, and the system achieved an overall success rate of 41/55 across various undefined tasks. Preliminary results show that the proposed method holds the potential to provide a more user-friendly human-computer interaction interface and significantly enhance the versatility and effectiveness of assistive systems by supporting more complex and diverse task. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) prediction is an instrumental means in elucidating the mechanisms underlying cellular operations, holding significant practical implications for the realms of pharmaceutical development and clinical treatment. Presently, the majority of research methods primarily concentrate on the analysis of amino acid sequences, while investigations predicated on protein structures remain in the nascent stages of exploration. Despite the emergence of several structure-based algorithms in recent years, these are still confronted with inherent challenges: (1) the extraction of intrinsic structural information of proteins typically necessitates the expenditure of substantial computational resources;(2) these models are overly reliant on seen protein data, struggling to effectively unearth interaction cues between unknown proteins. To further propel advancements in this domain, this paper introduces a novel PPI prediction method jointing masked reconstruction and contrastive learning, termed JmcPPI. This methodology dissects the PPI prediction task into two distinct phases: during the residue structure encoding phase, JmcPPI devises two feature reconstruction tasks and employs graph attention mechanism to capture structural information between residues;during the protein interaction inference phase, JmcPPI perturbs the original PPI graph and employs a multi-graph contrastive learning strategy to thoroughly mine extrinsic interaction information of novel proteins. Extensive experiments conducted on three widely utilized PPI datasets demonstrate that JmcPPI surpasses existing optimal baseline models across various data partition schemes. Multi-storage, multi-energy, and multi-policy optimization for hybrid green and grey hydrogen production: A regional study in China

Green hydrogen is key to global decarbonization. This study optimizes regional green-grey hydrogen production in China, using a multi-storage (hydrogen and battery) and multi-renewable energy model. The focus is on minimizing the levelized cost of hydrogen and carbon emission factor, incorporating carbon reduction policies. The results show that the tradable green certificates policy leads to a lower cost, while the cap-and-trade mechanism accelerates the achievement of grey hydrogen substitution across China's regions by 20 years to 2060. Regions rich in renewable energy achieve $5/kg lower costs and 6 years faster substitution. Hydrogen storage is the most cost-effective solution, hybrid storage is preferable in low renewable energy areas, while battery storage incurs costs that are 25% to 150% higher. The trade-off between carbon emission and cost highlights each region's inflection point, essential for designing incentive policies. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Accurate cell classification is crucial but expensive for large-scale single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis. Gene selection (GS) emerges as a pivotal technique in identifying gene subsets of scRNA-seq for classification accuracy improvement and gene scale reduction. Nevertheless, the rising scale of scRNA-seq data presents challenges to existing GS methods regarding performance and computational time. Thus, we propose a surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective GS to address these deficiencies. An innovative two-phase initialization method is proposed to select sparse solutions to provide preliminary insights into gene contributions. Then, a binary competitive swarm optimizer is proposed for effective global search, where a local search method is embedded to eliminate irrelevant genes for efficiency consideration. Additionally, a surrogate model is adopted to forecast classification accuracy efficiently and substitutes part of the computationally expensive classification process. Experiments are conducted on eight large-scale scRNA-seq datasets with more than 20,000 genes. The effectiveness of the proposed GS method for scRNA-seq cell classification compared with eight state-of-the-art methods is validated. Gene expression analysis results of selected genes further validated the significance of the genes selected by the proposed method in the classification of scRNA-seq data. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Exponential synchronization of coupled memristive neural networks via pinning control

This paper is concerned with the exponential synchronization problem of coupled memristive neural networks. In contrast to general neural networks, memristive neural networks exhibit state-dependent switching behaviors due to the physical properties of memristors. Under a mild topology condition, it is proved that a small fraction of controlled sub- systems can efficiently synchronize the coupled systems. The pinned subsystems are identified via a search algorithm. Moreover, the information exchange network needs not to be undirected or strongly connected. Finally, two numerical simulations are performed to verify the usefulness and effectiveness of our results.

As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2

The proliferation of misinformation in today's digital era poses significant challenges, with fake news detection becoming critical to mitigate economic losses and social instability. Despite extensive research efforts, most existing approaches are tailored for single-domain fake news detection, struggling with data distribution discrepancies and domain shifts when applied to multi-domain scenarios. This limitation underscores the urgent need for solutions that address the complexities of cross-domain detection. Here, we propose a novel framework MFGAG that synergistically integrates adversarial networks and graph neural networks with emotional, stylistic, and semantic features to enable precise domain localization. By leveraging these features, the framework effectively models intricate relationships among news articles within the same temporal context, addressing the challenges posed by multi-domain datasets. Experimental evaluations demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving an average accuracy improvement of 3.3 percentage points for single-domain news and nearly 1 percentage point for mixed-domain data, culminating in an overall accuracy of 93.1 %. The detection and recognition of student behavior play a pivotal role in the context of smart classrooms. However, conventional methods often encounter performance degradation due to challenges such as occlusion, data diversity, and complexity. To effectively addresses these issues, we propose a method that integrates YOLOv5 with coordinate attention mechanism and GhostConv for analyzing students' behavior. Specifically, the coordinate attention module enhances the localization ability of the proposed method by addressing problems related to target scale variations and uneven distribution. Additionally, we employ GhostConv to replace conventional convolutional layers in YOLOv5, reducing parameters while improving computational efficiency. To verify the validity of our method, a self-built challenging dataset for real teaching scenarios and Citypersons dataset are selected for the experiment. In comparison to the original YOLOv5, our method has achieved a 14.8% and 5.7% increase in mean average precision rates, with a 19.0% improvement in frames per second. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
