Achieving consensus via nearest neighbor rules is an important prerequisite for multi-agent networks to accomplish collective tasks. A common assumption in consensus setup is that each agent interacts with all its neighbors. This paper examines whether network functionality and performance can be maintained-and even enhanced-when agents interact only with a subset of their respective (available) neighbors. As shown in the paper, the answer to this inquiry is affirmative. In this direction, we show that by exploring the monotonicity property of the Laplacian eigenvectors, a neighbor selection rule with guaranteed performance enhancements, can be realized for consensus-type networks. For distributed implementation, a quantitative connection between entries of Laplacian eigenvectors and the "relative rate of change" in the state between neighboring agents is further established;this connection facilitates a distributed algorithm for each agent to identify "favorable" neighbors to interact with. Multi-agent networks with and without external influence are examined, as well as extensions to signed networks. This paper underscores the utility of Laplacian eigenvectors in the context of distributed neighbor selection, providing novel insights into distributed data-driven control of multi-agent systems. A survey on negative transfer

—Transfer learning (TL) utilizes data or knowledge from one or more source domains to facilitate the learning in a target domain. It is particularly useful when the target domain has very few or no labeled data, due to annotation expense, privacy concerns, etc. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of TL is not always guaranteed. Negative transfer (NT), i.e., leveraging source domain data/knowledge undesirably reduces the learning performance in the target domain, has been a long-standing and challenging problem in TL. Various approaches have been proposed in the literature to handle it. However, there does not exist a systematic survey on the formulation of NT, the factors leading to NT, and the algorithms that mitigate NT. This paper fills this gap, by first introducing the definition of NT and its factors, then reviewing about fifty representative approaches for overcoming NT, according to four categories: secure transfer, domain similarity estimation, distant transfer, and NT mitigation. NT in related fields, e.g., multi-task learning, lifelong learning, and adversarial attacks, are also discussed. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A visual kinematics calibration method for manipulator based on nonlinear optimization

The traditional kinematic calibration method for manipulators requires precise three-dimensional measuring instruments to measure the end pose, which is not only expensive due to the high cost of the measuring instruments but also not applicable to all manipulators. Another calibration method uses a camera, but the system error caused by the camera's parameters affects the calibration accuracy of the kinematics of the robot arm. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for calibrating the geometric parameters of a kinematic model of a manipulator based on monocular vision. Firstly, the classic Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) modeling method is used to establish the kinematic parameters of the manipulator. Secondly, nonlinear optimization and parameter compensation are performed. The three-dimensional positions of the feature points of the calibration plate under each manipulator attitude corresponding to the actual kinematic model and the classic D-H kinematic model are mapped into the pixel coordinate system, and the sum of Euclidean distance errors of the pixel coordinates of the two is used as the objective function to be optimized. The experimental results show that the pixel deviation of the end pose corresponding to the optimized D-H kinematic model proposed in this paper and the end pose corresponding to the actual kinematic model in the pixel coordinate system is 0.99 pixels. Compared with the 7.9 deviation pixels between the pixel coordinates calculated by the classic D-H kinematic model and the actual pixel coordinates, the deviation is reduced by nearly 7 pixels for an 87% reduction in error. Therefore, the proposed method can effectively avoid system errors caused by camera parameters in visual calibration, can improve the absolute positioning accuracy of the end of the robotic arm, and has good economy and universality. Models of strategy evolution on static networks help us understand how population structure can promote the spread of traits like cooperation. One key mechanism is the formation of altruistic spatial clusters, where neighbors of a cooperative individual are likely to reciprocate, which protects prosocial traits from exploitation. But most real-world interactions are ephemeral and subject to exogenous restructuring, so that social networks change over time. Strategic behavior on dynamic networks is difficult to study, and much less is known about the resulting evolutionary dynamics. Here, we provide an analytical treatment of cooperation on dynamic networks, allowing for arbitrary spatial and temporal heterogeneity. We show that transitions among a large class of network structures can favor the spread of cooperation, even if each individual social network would inhibit cooperation when static. Furthermore, we show that spatial heterogeneity tends to inhibit cooperation, whereas temporal heterogeneity tends to promote it. Dynamic networks can have profound effects on the evolution of prosocial traits, even when individuals have no agency over network structures. © 2023, CC BY.

Designing efficient, recyclable, and low-cost catalysts is crucial for the synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives. In this context, a novel N -stable Co 2 P nano-catalyst (CoP@N C-1.5) was developed using a template-sacrificial approach. The catalyst demonstrated a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance, achieving yields of up to 84 %. Additionally, the catalyst exhibited reusability and can be recycled up to three times. The CoP@N C-1.5 was characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results indicated that the catalyst contained Co 2 P nanoparticles. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) further confirms the presence of Co-P. Analysis of the characterization data and experimental results revealed that the active site of the catalyst comprises N -stable Co 2 P nanoparticles.

Superposed Transparency Effect and Entanglement Generation with Hybrid System of Photonic Molecule and Dipole Emitter

We theoretically investigate the transparency effect with a hybrid system composed of a photonic molecule and dipole emitter. It is shown that the transparency effect incorporates both the coupled resonator-induced transparency(CRIT) effect and the dipole-induced transparency(DIT) effect. It is found that the superposed transparency windows are consistently narrower than the CRIT and DIT transparency windows. Benefiting from the superposed transparency effect, the photonic Faraday rotation effect could be realized in the photonic molecule system, which is useful for entanglement generation and quantum information processing.

Electrospinning has exhibited excellent benefits to treat the trauma for tissue engineering due to its produced micro/nano fibrous structure. It can effectively adhere to the tissue surface for long-term continuous therapy. This paper develops a robotic electrospinning platform for endoluminal therapy. The platform consists of a continuum manipulator, the electrospinning device, and the actuation unit. The continuum manipulator has two bending sections to facilitate the steering of the tip needle for a controllable spinning direction. Non-circular joint profile is carefully designed to enable a constant length of the centreline of a continuum manipulator for stable fluid transmission inside it. Experiments are performed on a bronchus phantom, and the steering ability and bending limitation in each direction are also investigated. The endoluminal electrospinning is also fulfilled by a trajectory following and points targeting experiments. The effective adhesive area of the produced fibre is also illustrated. The proposed robotic electrospinning shows its feasibility to precisely spread more therapeutic drug to construct fibrous structure for potential endoluminal treatments. © 2021 IEEE

Estimating the Ratio of Edge-Users (REU) is an important issue in mobile networks, as it helps the subsequent adjustment of loads in different cells. However, existing approaches usually determine the REU manually, which are experience-dependent and labor-intensive, and thus the estimated REU might be imprecise. Considering the inherited graph structure of mobile networks, in this paper, we utilize a graph-based deep learning method for automatic REU estimation, where the practical cells are deemed as nodes and the load switchings among them constitute edges. Concretely, Graph Attention Network (GAT) is employed as the backbone of our method due to its impressive generalizability in dealing with networked data. Nevertheless, conventional GAT cannot make full use of the information in mobile networks, since it only incorporates node features to infer the pairwise importance and conduct graph convolutions, while the edge features that are actually critical in our problem are disregarded. To accommodate this issue, we propose an Edge-Aware Graph Attention Network (EAGAT), which is able to fuse the node features and edge features for REU estimation. Extensive experimental results on two real-world mobile network datasets demonstrate the superiority of our EAGAT approach to several state-of-the-art methods.

Trajectory tracking and speed control for intelligent vehicles are put forward higher requirements on accuracy by the high traffic density scenario. A standard Model Predictive control (MPC) algorithm focuses on the trajectory tracking but ignores the speed control. This paper proposes a simultaneous trajectory tracking and speed control algorithm based on MPC approach to address fine control in both space and time dimensions for intelligent vehicles. A threefold cost function including lateral and longitudinal speed as well as comfort has been proposed to improve the control algorithm. The simulations and comparisons demonstrate that the proposed method has a better tracking and speed control performance than the existing method.

An Improved Result on Stabilization of Switched Linear Systems with Time-varying Delay ⁎

This paper revisits the stabilization problem of switched linear systems with time-varying delay via state dependent switching strategies. In contrast to the existing works, the commonly adopted stable convex combination assumption is relaxed in this paper. For switched systems satisfying the relaxed assumption, we design a state dependent switching strategy, under which the considered system is asymptotically stable at the origin in the presence of time-varying delay. An optimization problem is formulated to estimate the upper bound of tolerable time delay. Numerical examples are presented to show that our method is applicable to a larger class of switched systems and leads to greater delay bound.
