Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are of great importance in various applications and have garnered significant attention. Ensuring their security is a crucial concern, while this paper focuses on the security of CPSs against replay attacks during the transmission of sensor measurements over a wireless network. It is widely recognized that incorporating physical watermark signals is an effective approach to mitigate replay attacks. However, traditional physical watermarks are time-based and result in a notable degradation in the performance of Linear Quadratic Gaussian systems. With this in mind, a novel event-based physical watermarking technique is devised to address the performance degradation and detect replay attacks. The approach involves a deterministic physical watermark schedule that utilizes the innovation sequence to determine whether to incorporate physical watermarks or not. We provide evidence that the probability of successfully embedding physical watermarks increases when the system is targeted by malicious attacks. Additionally, we demonstrate that the deterministic event-based watermarking approach is more effective than the traditional time-based watermarking method. Finally, simulation examples are included to validate and illustrate the theoretical results. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed Proportional-Integral Algorithms for Multiple Coalition Games under Limited Communication Resources

This paper studies the algorithm design for multiple coalition games under limited communication resources, in which the players in the same coalition cooperatively optimize the summation of cost functions in this coalition and do not care about the costs of other coalitions. To address this game, we develop a distributed proportional-integral algorithm based on the coalition estimate strategy and the proportional-integral principle. Furthermore, when the communication resource is concretely quantified by bit rates in communication channels, we propose a coding-decoding-based distributed proportional-integral algorithm based on the distributed proportional-integral algorithm and coding-decoding rules for seeking the Nash equilibrium of multiple coalition games. It proves that both algorithms linearly and precisely converge to the Nash equilibrium in spite of limited communication resources. Then, the necessary and sufficient condition for the linear convergence of the proposed algorithm about the requirement of bit rates is presented. Moreover, the relationship between the bit rate and the convergence speed of the proposed algorithm is also theoretically explained. Lastly, the simulation in formation problems of unmanned vehicle swarms is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed algorithms. © 2015 IEEE.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an active microwave imaging and earth observation device capable of penetrating through clouds, rain, and fog, enabling it to operate effectively regardless of the weather conditions and throughout the day. However, speckle noise in SAR images can make them difficult to interpret, and optical images are often difficult to observe when they are covered by clouds. Therefore, after preprocessing, SAR images can be directly converted to optical images through end-to-end translation learning without optical images as auxiliary information, improving the interpretability of SAR images and realizing cloud removal. Due to the relatively simple structure design of the existing generator based on residual network, it is not perfect to capture and extract the feature information of the image, and the relationship between the features is not well connected, resulting in the existing SAR-optical translation results are not accurate enough. To mitigate this issue, we propose an image translation method utilizing a multilayer translation generative adversarial network (MT_GAN) for cloud removal. First, we design a despeckling module (DSM) to preprocess the speckle noise in SAR. Furthermore, a multilayer translation generator (MTG) is designed for SAR-to-optical (S-O) image translation. It can perform multi-scale image translation on different layers and combine them to enrich the semantic information of features and optimize the translation results. In addition, MTG combined with PatchGAN discriminator is used to compose the optical image generation sub-network (OGS) and SAR image regression sub-network (SRS). Finally, the SRS and OGS are used to establish the connection of cycle consistency loss and optimize the generated optical image. We prepare four datasets for experiments, two of which are used for image translation experiments and the other two for cloud removal experiments. Reversible solid oxide cell (RSOC) demonstrates considerable promise in multimodal energy conversion architectures, particularly as a technology for hydrogen-based energy storage systems. Nevertheless, under dynamic operating regimes with time-varying current inputs, realizing time-efficient and reliable transitions to steady-state operation remains difficult. This difficulty arises from the intricate coupling of thermal, electrical, and gaseous processes within the RSOC system. This study aims to address these challenges by developing a 5 kW mathematical model of the RSOC system. The proposed model enables systematic investigation of thermal safety issues arising during current switching operations while introducing a thermal constraint control strategy to enhance both system efficiency and thermal safety performance. This efficiency-driven study employs the Grid Search algorithm to identify optimal steady-state operating points for the RSOC system, ensuring strict adherence to safety constraints across varying current inputs. Furthermore, by integrating the pre-identified optimal operating points as feedforward control with Model Predictive control (MPC)-based feedback correction, this hybrid strategy effectively mitigates stack temperature gradient overshoot while synchronously ensuring optimal system efficiency throughout current transition processes. Under simulated variable current inputs, the proposed RSOC system model and control strategy demonstrate the capability to constrain stack temperature gradient overshoot within 2.3K while enhancing transient efficiency by 5 %–8 %, achieving a peak system efficiency of 85 %. It provides a novel methodology for safe and efficient working with intermittent renewable energy. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

With the widespread deployment of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), data sharing has garnered considerable attention as a core feature of VANETs. Attribute-based proxy re-encryption (ABPRE) enables fine-grained access control and provides flexible ciphertext updates. The initially authorized vehicle generates the re-encryption key to enable ciphertext-to-ciphertext conversion in the cloud, allowing ciphertext to be shared with new recipients. However, initially authorized vehicles may not always be trustworthy and could share data with malicious receivers. In addition, the computation and communication overhead of ABPRE hinders its widespread application in VANETs. To address these issues, we propose a lightweight sanitizable scheme for edge-assisted VANETs based on ABPRE. In this scheme, the re-encryption key is verified by a sanitizer, to prevent the data from being shared with malicious data receivers. In addition, key-splitting techniques and edge computing are employed to reduce the communication and computation overhead of re-encryption. A comprehensive security analysis and performance evaluation demonstrate that the proposed scheme is efficient and practical. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Revisiting Euclidean Alignment for Transfer Learning in EEG-Based Brain-Computer Interfaces

Due to the non-stationarity and large individual differences of EEG signals, EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) usually need subject-specific calibration to tailor the decoding algorithm for each new subject, which is time-consuming and user-unfriendly, hindering their real-world applications. Transfer learning (TL) has been extensively used to expedite the calibration, by making use of EEG data from other subjects/sessions. An important consideration in TL for EEG-based BCIs is to reduce the data distribution discrepancies among different subjects/session, to avoid negative transfer. Euclidean alignment (EA) was proposed in 2020 to address this challenge. Numerous experiments from 10 different BCI paradigms demonstrated its effectiveness and efficiency. This paper revisits the EA, explaining its procedure and correct usage, introducing its applications and extensions, and pointing out potential new research directions. It should be very helpful to BCI researchers, especially those who are working on EEG signal decoding. © 2025, CC BY.

Online Flow Scheduling in Virtualized Time-Sensitive Networks: A Joint Admission control and VNF Embedding Approach

Time-sensitive networking (TSN) is proposed to satisfy the increasingly stringent demands of Industrial 4.0 for deterministic transmission. This is achieved by generating a series of centrally configured gate control lists to strictly restrict the forwarding time of arriving flows. However, such a centralized scheme requires prior information of all flows, severely impeding TSN from providing an online response to dynamic industrial applications. To solve this problem, we innovatively propose to use admission control (AC) to realize deterministic transmission in the virtualized TSN network. In this approach, AC is distributively executed on each node and link, whereby flows of applications are served by passing through a series of virtual network functions (VNFs). This distributed AC execution is regarded as a VNF embedding (VNE) process. Specifically, we propose a two-stage online framework, Smart Admission control (SmartAC), to cater to dynamic applications. The first stage, referred to as the static stage, obtains a deterministic VNE solution by synthesizing AC decisions of individual TSN nodes and links. The second stage, referred to as the dynamic stage, fine-tunes VNE solutions obtained from the static stage to adapt to the harsh environment with insufficient resources or limited VNF migration budgets. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of SmartAC in improving response rate and resource utilization ratio. Notably, SmartAC reduces runtime by 90% compared to existing algorithms and exhibits robustness across different network topologies. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, the rapid advancement of automation control and intelligent sensing technologies has positioned autonomous driving as a focal point of interest for both academia and industry. As core equipment in modern construction and industrial production, engineering machinery urgently requires intelligent transformation. To promote the intelligent development of engineering machinery, we have designed an integrated intelligent autonomous driving bulldozer system, which can be extended to various types of engineering machinery. For the specific mine dumping operation environment, we propose a multisensor fusion pose estimation algorithm framework based on the Global Navigation Satellite System, inertial measurement unit, visual cameras, and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to address issues arising from sensor failures under harsh construction conditions. Furthermore, to ensure safety during task execution, we design a three-dimensional object detection method based on the optimal observation plane from LiDAR data. By integrating pose estimation and environmental perception results, we develop a comprehensive work planning and path-tracking algorithm to maintain task efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that our intelligent autonomous driving bulldozer system performs excellently under various working conditions. The accuracy of its pose estimation, object detection, and path tracking meets the requirements of actual construction environments, showcasing its significant potential in engineering applications. © 2025 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) provides important insights into the metabolic mechanisms of different biological processes. Although PPIs in some organisms have been investigated systematically, PPIs in the ocean archaea remain largely unexplored. But such species have special investigation value since their adaptation to extreme living conditions may generate unique PPIs. In this paper, we aim to characterize and predict PPIs in ocean archaea to advance understanding of their metabolic networks. First, we collect all ocean archaea PPIs with high confidence from STRING database and analyze the PPI network features, including centrality and enrichment analysis. The functional enrichment results of the largest connecting subgraph in the PPI network show most PPIs in our constructed dataset is related to the translation and transcription processes. Then, we generate an equal number of negative PPI pairs, whose members have either different subcellular locations or GO terms. We also use the generated dataset to test the performance of three pretraining methods and their ensemble methods in the binary PPI prediction task. Our results suggest the ensemble methods could be applied to further improve models’ performance. Fine-tuned models trained on the ocean archaea dataset are expected to predict the other ocean archaea PPIs that are not included in the STRING database and get more understanding about the ocean archaea PPI universe.

Insulator defects can lead to insulation performance degradation and structural damage, affecting the regular operation of the power transmission and transformation system. It is important to Detect anomalies promptly, which can help prevent such accidents to the greatest extent possible. Temperature is one of the key indicators of the condition of insulators, and infrared thermal imaging technology is widely applied, which can detect latent defects in insulators. One of the critical parameters for infrared temperature measurement is target distance. However, infrared cameras cannot set distance parameters for different targets within an image, which presents challenges for inspecting multiple insulator strings based on one image. This paper proposes a multi-distance parameter temperature correction method based on monocular distance measurement algorithms to solve the problem. First, this paper uses a monocular distance measurement model to get the distance automatically. Then, this paper proposes a temperature-distance correction method to correct the temperature. Finally, re-image with the corrected temperature. The test results show that the average temperature correction is 0.6K, indicating that the correction is non-negligible. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
