Modeling spatio-temporal sequences is an important topic yet challenging for existing neural networks. Most of the current spatio-temporal sequence prediction methods usually capture features separately in temporal and spatial dimensions or employ multiple mutually independent local spatio-temporal graphs to represent a spatio-temporal sequence. The first kind of method mentioned above is difficult to mine the complex spatio-temporal correlations, while the other is limited for the accuracy of long-term predictions. To handle these issues, this paper proposes a Transformer-Improved Graph Convolution Network for spatio-temporal prediction. Specifically, the temporal location encoding method is exploited to derive the spatio-temporal characteristics of the sequence utilizing a spatio-temporal feature fusion network. In addition, a spatio-temporal attention network is developed to enhance the spatio-temporal correlation of the sequence, and the dynamic spatial features of sequence are further extracted through the adaptive graph convolution network. A private dataset and a public dataset are employed to demonstrate the performance of the proposed TIGC-Net. The qualitative and quantitative results show that the proposed TIGC-Net can extract dynamic spatiotemporal properties more effectively, enhance the spatio-temporal correlation of sequences and improve the prediction accuracy compared with four stateof-the-art. © 2022, The Authors. Advances in neuroscience have suggested that addiction is not only an ongoing dynamic transaction between the person, their behavior, and the environment, but a disturbance of neurotransmitters in neurons involved in reward, memory, and cognitive control. Although the neural mechanism of addiction is complex and heterogeneous, previous addiction recovery and treatment studies have proven that addiction is amenable to treatment and recovery. At present, addiction treatment faces great challenges as well as many opportunities. The field of biomedical engineering is and will be at the forefront of these accelerating disciplines based on advances in imaging, genomics, systems medicine, molecular and cellular engineering, and other biomedical sciences. Thus, we propose several perspectives to accelerate the development of advanced and scientific approaches for addiction treatment: early prevention is better than cure and addiction treatment should focus on individualized regulation, whole-body interaction and the translation of effective animal models to human. © 2023 The Authors

Privacy leakage and Byzantine failures are two adverse factors to the intelligent decision-making process of multiagent systems (MASs). Considering an unsafe MAS with these two issues, this paper targets the resolution of a class of nonconvex optimization problems under the Polyak-Lojasiewicz (P-L) condition. To address this problem, we first identify and construct the unsafe MAS model. Under this kind of unfavorable MASs, we mask the local gradients with Gaussian noises and adopt a resilient aggregation method self-centered clipping (SCC) to design a differentially private (DP) decentralized Byzantine-resilient algorithm, namely DP-SCC-PL, which simultaneously achieves differential privacy and Byzantine resilience. The convergence analysis of DP-SCC-PL is challenging since the convergence error can be contributed jointly by privacy-preserving and Byzantine-resilient mechanisms, as well as the nonconvex relaxation, which is addressed via seeking the contraction relationships among the disagreement measure of reliable agents before and after SCC aggregation, together with the optimal gap. Theoretical results reveal that DP-SCC-PL achieves consensus among all reliable agents and sublinear (inexact) convergence with well-designed step-sizes. It has also been proved that if there are no privacy issues and Byzantine agents, then the asymptotic exact convergence can be recovered. Numerical experiments verify the utility, resilience, and differential privacy of DP-SCC-PL by tackling a nonconvex optimization problem satisfying the P-L condition under various Byzantine attacks. Electrospinning has exhibited excellent benefits to treat the trauma for tissue engineering due to its produced micro/nano fibrous structure. It can effectively adhere to the tissue surface for long-term continuous therapy. This paper develops a robotic electrospinning platform for endoluminal therapy. The platform consists of a continuum manipulator, the electrospinning device, and the actuation unit. The continuum manipulator has two bending sections to facilitate the steering of the tip needle for a controllable spinning direction. Non-circular joint profile is carefully designed to enable a constant length of the centreline of a continuum manipulator for stable fluid transmission inside it. Experiments are performed on a bronchus phantom, and the steering ability and bending limitation in each direction are also investigated. The endoluminal electrospinning is also fulfilled by a trajectory following and points targeting experiments. The effective adhesive area of the produced fibre is also illustrated. The proposed robotic electrospinning shows its feasibility to precisely spread more therapeutic drug to construct fibrous structure for potential endoluminal treatments. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

Quantum emitters are a key component in photonic quantum technologies. Enhancing their single-photon emission by engineering the photonic environment using cavities can improve the overall efficiency in quantum information processing. However, this enhancement is often limited by the need for precise nanoscale control over emitter’s position within micro/nano-cavities. Inspired by the fascinated physics of moiré pattern, we present an approach to strongly modify the spontaneous emission rate of a quantum emitter using fine-designed multilayer moiré photonic crystal with a robust isolate-flatband dispersion. Theoretical analysis reveals that due to its nearly infinite photonic density of states, the moiré cavity can simultaneously possess high Purcell factor and large tolerance over emitter’s position. We experimentally demonstrate the coupling between this moiré cavity and a quantum dot via the cavity-determined polarization of the dot’s emission. The radiative lifetime of the quantum dot can be tuned by a factor of 40 from 42 ps to 1692 ps, attributed to strong Purcell enhancement and Purcell inhibition effects. Our findings pave the way for moiré flatband cavity-enhanced quantum light sources, quantum optical switches and quantum nodes for quantum internet. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Models of strategy evolution on static networks help us understand how population structure can promote the spread of traits like cooperation. One key mechanism is the formation of altruistic spatial clusters, where neighbors of a cooperative individual are likely to reciprocate, which protects prosocial traits from exploitation. But most real-world interactions are ephemeral and subject to exogenous restructuring, so that social networks change over time. Strategic behavior on dynamic networks is difficult to study, and much less is known about the resulting evolutionary dynamics. Here, we provide an analytical treatment of cooperation on dynamic networks, allowing for arbitrary spatial and temporal heterogeneity. We show that transitions among a large class of network structures can favor the spread of cooperation, even if each individual social network would inhibit cooperation when static. Furthermore, we show that spatial heterogeneity tends to inhibit cooperation, whereas temporal heterogeneity tends to promote it. Dynamic networks can have profound effects on the evolution of prosocial traits, even when individuals have no agency over network structures. © 2023, CC BY.

Online Calibration of Intracortical Neural Interface Based on Transfer Learning

In the application of neural interface, the neural activity of neurons and neuronal groups is not fixed even under the same task conditions. Meanwhile, the recording conditions of neural signals are also very unstable, with a high degree of within-and across-day variability. This results in a very unstable firing pattern for the recorded neural spike signals. In order to get better performance, the decoder often requires a lot of online calibration samples. This brings a heavy training burden to neural interface users. To solve this problem, this paper proposes to apply transfer learning (TL) to online calibration of intracortical neural interface to reduce the dependence of decoder on a large number of online calibration samples. Experimental results show that through transferring from a large amount of historical data, decoder can achieve satisfactory classification accuracy with only a small amount of online data.

With the development of artificial intelligence technology, robotics technology has become more and more mature. Ground walking robots not only develop rapidly, but also have been applied in actual production and life. However, the development of wall climbing robot technology is still in the laboratory research and small-scale application. We live in a world where progress is continuing. Large-scale buildings, bridges and ships are becoming more and more common. In these places, it is inevitable to involve the construction, maintenance and clarity of high-rise buildings and ships. In the case of dangerous and inefficient manpower work, the application of wall climbing robots can play a very good role. Therefore, the development of wall climbing robots is of vital importance both now and in the future. Starting from the performance characteristics of wall climbing robot, this paper studies and summarizes the moving mode, control mode, conditions to be satisfied and various adsorption forms of wall climbing robot, and introduces the basic research situation in the field of wall climbing robot.
