Human action recognition is a hot topic in computer vision field. Various applicable approaches have been proposed to recognize different types of actions. However, the recognition performance deteriorates rapidly when the viewpoint changes. Traditional approaches aim to address the problem by inductive transfer learning, in which target-view samples are manually labeled. In this paper, we present a novel approach for cross-view action recognition based on transduc-tive transfer learning. We address the problem by transferring instances across views. In our settings, both labels of examples from the target view and the corresponding relation between examples from pairwise views are dispensable. Experimental results on the IXMAS multi-view data set demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, and are comparable to the state of the art.

In this paper, we denote a color image by a quaternion function, then find edge points by solving the maximum of quaternion fractional directional differentiation(QFDD)'s norm. This method is called edge detection based on QFDD. Experiments indicate that the method has special advantages. Comparing with Canny, LOG, Sobel, and general fractional differentiation, we discover that QFDD has fewer false negatives in the textured regions and is also better at detecting edges which are partially defined by texture, which means we will obtain better results in the interesting regions by QFDD and these results are more consistent with the characteristics of human visual system.

Object classification in traffic scene surveillance has attracted much attention recent years. Traditional classification methods need lots of labeled samples to build a satisfying classifier. However, the acquisition of the labeled samples may cost lots of time and human labor. In this paper, we propose an label-propagation based semi-supervised learning method which uses the information of both labeled and unlabeled samples. Experiment results show that our method outperforms the traditional methods both in accuracy and robustness.

This paper addresses the issue of tracking tubular objects, particularly blood vessels from MR images. A model-based approach is adopted. The generalized stochastic tube (GST) model is developed which is an extension of our previously proposed (1993) generalized tube (GT) model. Transitions among adjacent tubes are explicitly parameterized. Integrated with a bivariate Gaussian density function adopted to model the blood flow within cross sections, the GST model is applied to tracking blood vessels in MRA volumetric data. Experimental results on both synthetic data with different degrees of Gaussian noise and real MRA data demonstrated that simultaneously utilizing both models yields robust performance under noisy conditions.

Gait planning of quadruped robots plays an important role in achieving less walking, including dynamic and static gait. In this article, a static and dynamic gait control method based on center of gravity stability margin is proposed. Firstly, the robot model and kinematics modeling are introduced. Secondly, the robot’s foot static and dynamic gait were planned and the foot trajectory was designed. Finally, two types of gait of the robot were simulated using Vrep simulation software, and the differences in stability and speed between the coordinated gait with speed and stability in the static and dynamic gait of a 12 degree of freedom robot were analyzed, verifying the effectiveness of the gait control method proposed in this paper.

This paper introduces the theory of ϕ-Jensen variance. Our main motivation is to extend the connotation of the analysis of variance and facilitate its applications in probability, statistics and higher education. To this end, we first introduce the relevant concepts and properties of the interval function. Next, we study several characteristics of the log-concave function and prove an interesting quasi-log concavity conjecture. Next, we introduce the theory of ϕ-Jensen variance and study the monotonicity of the interval function JVar_ϕ φ(X_[a,b]) by means of the log concavity. Finally, we demonstrate the applications of our results in higher education, show that the hierarchical teaching model is ‘normally’ better than the traditional teaching model under the appropriate hypotheses, and study the monotonicity of the interval function Var A (X_[a,b]). © 2015, Wen et al.

This paper introduces an efficient method for face localization and recognition in color images. The proposed method uses the location of eyes for computation and extraction of a face's bounding ellipse. In this way, parameters of a face's ellipse (center, orientation, major and minor axis), is computed by the location of eyes in a face image. In the next step, we apply Pseudo Zernike Moments (PZM), Zernike Moments (ZM) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for feature extraction. For classification of these feature vectors a new structure of RBF neural networks with a novel distance function is introduced and a new method for determination of RBF unit parameters is proposed. Finally, we compare the efficiency of the proposed system for three types of feature vectors (PZM, ZM and PCA). Results emphasize the high accuracy and efficiency of the PZM features proportion to other features (ZM and PCA) for use in the proposed recognition system.

With the development of remote sensing technology, remote sensing images of buildings are of great significance in urban planning, disaster response, and other directions. When we use a neural network containing batch normalization layers for semantic segmentation, the neural network is sensitive to batch size and has low segmentation accuracy for occluded and dense buildings. This paper proposes a method for building segmentation in remote sensing images based on Nested UNet (UNet++) deep neural network. First, the UNet++ network is used to extract features, and the Group Normalization (GN) method is used instead of Batch Normalization (BN) to alleviate the model's sensitivity to batch size. Then the weighted combination of Cross-Entropy Loss (CELoss) and DiceLoss is used as the loss function to improve the feature extraction ability of the neural network for unbalanced buildings. Finally, experiments are carried out on the WHUBuilding dataset. The experimental results show that the improved model (UNet++-GN) improves Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) and Mean Pixel Accuracy (Macc) by 12.16% and 2.92%, respectively, compared with the original model (UNet++-BN). © 2023 SPIE.

D2GL: Dual-level dual-scale graph learning for sketch-based 3D shape retrieval

Sketch-based 3D shape retrieval (SBSR) is an active research area in the computer vision community, but it is still very challenging. One main reason is that existing deep learning-based methods usually treat sketches as 2D images, neglecting the sparsity and diversity. In this paper, we propose a novel Dual-level Dual-scale Graph Learning (D2GL) method to effectively enhance structural information and produce robust representations for sparse and diverse hand-drawn sketches. Specifically, in addition to the traditional branches for SBSR, we introduce a Dual-level Dual-scale Graph Self-attention (DLDS-GSA) as an auxiliary branch. DLDS-GSA further consists of two levels of encoders, i.e., a local structural encoder and a dual-scale global structural encoder, to capture both local discriminative and multi-scale global structures while minimizing the impact of various sketch drawing details. Comprehensive experiments on SHREC’13 and SHREC’14 datasets demonstrate the superiority of D2GL for SBSR, with extended experiments on PART-SHREC’14 confirming its generalization for unseen classes in SBSR. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Although there are advanced technologies for character recognition, automatic descriptive answer evaluation is an open challenge for the document image analysis community due to large diversified handwritten text and answers to the question. This paper presents a novel method for detecting anomaly handwritten text in the responses written by the students to the questions. The method is proposed based on the fact that when the students are confident in answering questions, the students usually write answers legibly and neatly while they are not confident, they write sloppy writing which may not be easy for the reader to understand. To detect such anomaly handwritten text, we explore a new combination of Fourier transform and deep learning model for detecting edges. This result preserves the structure of handwritten text. For extracting features for classification of anomaly text and normal text, the proposed method studies the behavior of writing style, especially the variation at ascenders and descenders. Therefore, the proposed work draws principal axis which is invariant to rotation, scaling and some extent to distortion for the edge images. With respect to principal axis, the proposed method draws medial axis using uppermost and lowermost points. The distance between the medial axis and principal axis points are considered as feature vector. Further, the feature vector is passed to Artificial Neural Network for classification of anomaly text. The proposed method is evaluated by testing on our own dataset, standard dataset of gender identification (IAM) and handwritten forgery detection dataset (ACPR 2019). The results on different datasets show that the proposed work outperforms the existing methods. © 2022 ACM.
