This technical note deals with a modified algebraic Riccati equation (MARE) and its corresponding inequality and difference equation, which arise in modified optimal control and filtering problems and are introduced into the cooperative control problems recently. The stabilizing property of the solution to MARE is presented. Then, the uniqueness is proved for the almost stabilizing and positive semi-definite solution. Next, the parameter dependence of MARE is analyzed. An obtained parameter dependence result is finally applied to the study of semi-global synchronization of leader-following networks with discrete-time linear dynamics subject to actuator saturation. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

An adaptive differential evolution approach for the maximal synchronization problem of feeder buses to metro

This paper presents an adaptive differential evolution approach (DEMS for short) for the maximal synchronization between two most popular transit modes (i.e., bus and metro). Given a metro station, suppose the timetable of the metro system is precompiled, the DEMS approach is to produce timetables for the bus lines passing through the transfer points around the metro station. The objective is to achieve a maximal synchronization amongst the buses and metro. This is helpful to increase the ridership of metro systems and enhance the service level of an entire public transport system. In this paper, three types of simultaneous arrival are first defined, before an integer programming model is built for the maximal synchronization problem. Then, the DEMS approach is devised to solve the problem. Experiments on benchmark instances and a case study on a realworld problem demonstrate that the proposed DEMS approach can produce good results and is promising with good behavior of convergence. Robust reliable guaranteed cost control of positive interval systems with multiple time delays and actuator failure

This paper addresses the robust reliable guaranteed cost control problem of positive interval systems with multiple time delays and actuator failure for a given quadratic cost function. Through constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, a sufficient condition for the existence of robust reliable guaranteed cost controllers is established such that the closed-loop system is positive and asymptotically stable, and the cost function is guaranteed to be no more than a certain upper bound. Based on the linear matrix inequality method, a criterion for the design of robust reliable guaranteed cost controllers is derived which can tolerate all admissible uncertainties as well as actuator failure. Moreover, a convex optimisation problem with linear matrix inequality constraints is formulated to design the optimal robust reliable guaranteed cost controller which minimises the upper bound of the closed-loop system cost. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2014 Taylor & Francis.

Land cover classification can be regarded as topic assignment that the pixels can be classified into different kinds of regions (e.g. road, tree, grass) according to the semantics of topics in topic model. In this paper, we present a novel probabilistic latent semantic analysis (pLSA) model based on sparsity constraint for classifying different kinds of land cover. In contrast with conventional topic model which usually assumes each local feature descriptor is only related to one visual word of the dictionary, our method uses sparse coding to characterize the potential relationship between the descriptor and multiple words. Therefore each descriptor can be represented by a small set of words. More importantly, we further apply sparse coding to mine the correlation of documents (i.e. image) in pLSA model. Consequently, our model can generate the more discriminative latent topics and benefit land cover classification. Experimental results on high-resolution remote sensing images demonstrate the excellent superiority of our method.

Architectural distortion is the third most common sign of breast cancer in mammograms. The accurate recognition is important for computer aided diagnosis of breast cancer. However, due to the subtle symptom and complex structures in the mammogram images, it is difficult to recognize whether a region of interest (ROI) is truly an architectural distortion. In this paper, we proposed a new method for architectural distortion recognition. In the proposed method, several texture features are extracted for each region of interest, including features from GLCM matrix, spiculated related features, entropy features, etc. Feature selection is obtained by a sub-classes clustering based multi-task learning method (SMTL), which can utilize the discriminative label information and reflect the multi-clustering characteristic of the data samples. Finally, the powerful sparse representation based classifier is used for the classification of AD or non-AD. The proposed method has been tested on DDSM dataset and compared with several other methods, the experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Analogical China map constructed by single-stranded DNA tiles assembly

In the past nearly two decades, DNA self-assembly technology as a promising technology, a body of laboratory work has been emerged in an endless stream. Single-stranded DNA tile (SST) assembly provides a simple, modular and robust framework for constructing nanostructures with prescribed shapes from short synthetic DNA strands. In this research, we present a nanoscale DNA structure of analogical China map which is constructed by a number of SSTs, and label streptavidin in the capital beijing location. The constructing nanostructure is roughly 98 nm×67 nm in diameter with a spatial resolution of 3 nm×7 nm. The pattern appeared in atomic force microscopy (AFM) conforms to the pre-designed shape of Chinese map with the approximately expected dimensions, and AFM images of the field selected randomly from the mica give an 11% assembly yield. Through this research, the capability of constructing complicated two-dimensional shapes by SST and the controllability of the internal array are fully vindicated. Vehicle routing problem with time windows has an important practical significance, but it is NP-Hard problem. In order to solve the problem, an optimization algorithm based on P system is proposed. The encoding of glowworm’s location is considered as evolutionary object and discrete glowworm evolution mechanism and variable neighborhood evolution mechanism are used as sub-algorithms. In this paper, the motion equations and related motion rules of glowworm algorithm are improved to optimize the performance of the algorithm. Meanwhile, in order to enlarge the search area of solution space and improve the precision, the variable neighborhood evolution mechanism is redesigned. Cell communication rules are used to exchange information between cells. Moreover, this paper introduced the concept of Pareto dominance to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the object, as a result, this method returns not a single non-dominated solution but a set of no-dominated solutions. At last, by solving the different Solomon numerical examples and simulation results show that the algorithm is easier to jump out of local optimal both achieves very good results in the number of vehicles and distance cost, besides, generates a lot of new solutions which are different from the database. This algorithm has the features of faster convergence rate and accurate precision, and it is competitive with other heuristic or metaheuristic algorithms in the literature. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2016.

Coordinated control of multi-agent systems has widespread application in engineering such as unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned ground vehicles. Due to the fact that input saturation can lead a control system to deterioration and instability, a lot of efforts have been devoted to investigating this subject of great importance. The present article offers a survey of recent developments on coordinated control of multi-agents systems subject to input saturation. Some preliminaries about graph theory, stability theory and input saturation are first provided, followed by some important results in the area, which are categorized into semi-global and global coordinated controls. Future research topics are finally discussed.

Event-Triggering Load Frequency Control for Multiarea Power Systems with Communication Delays

This paper studies the load frequency control (LFC) for power systems with communication delays via an event-triggered control method to reduce the amount of communications required. The effect of the load disturbances on the augmented output is defined as a robust performance index of the augmented LFC scheme. By utilizing a time-delayed system design approach, a new model of the LFC scheme with delays is formulated, where the communication delays and event-triggered control are integrated for the LFC scheme. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method, the criteria for the event-triggered stability analysis and control synthesis of the LFC scheme are derived. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation studies. © 1982-2012 IEEE.
