Ultrasound is an inexpensive and widely used imaging modality for the diagnosis and staging of many *** the past several decades, it has benefited from major advances in technology and has become an indispensable imaging modality, due to its flexibility and non-invasive character. In the last decade, research investigators and commercial companieshave further advanced ultrasound imaging with the development of 3D ultrasound. Compared with two dimensional ultrasound imaging, it can provide a 3D image of the anatomy directly and localize the image plane much easier. This review focuses on three dimensional ultrasonic medical imaging patents filed in recent years between 2006 and 2010. The patents are classified into three classes: the hardware, software and applications. This paper will attempt to provide an appreciation of the recent advances in 3D ultrasound imaging research while glimpse the future development trend of 3D ultrasound imaging. © 2011 Bentham Science Publishers Ltd.

Graph relation distillation for efficient biomedical instance segmentation

Instance-aware embeddings predicted by deep neural networks have revolutionized biomedical instance segmentation, but its resource requirements are substantial. Knowledge distillation offers a solution by transferring distilled knowledge from heavy teacher networks to lightweight yet high-performance student networks. However, existing knowledge distillation methods struggle to extract knowledge for distinguishing instances and overlook global relation information. To address these challenges, we propose a graph relation distillation approach for efficient biomedical instance segmentation, which considers three essential types of knowledge: instance-level features, instance relations, and pixel-level boundaries. We introduce two graph distillation schemes deployed at both the intra-image level and the inter-image level: instance graph distillation (IGD) and affinity graph distillation (AGD). IGD constructs a graph representing instance features and relations, transferring these two types of knowledge by enforcing instance graph consistency. AGD constructs an affinity graph representing pixel relations to capture structured knowledge of instance boundaries, transferring boundary-related knowledge by ensuring pixel affinity consistency. Experimental results on a number of biomedical datasets validate the effectiveness of our approach, enabling student models with less than 1% parameters and less than 10% inference time while achieving promising performance compared to teacher models. New Insights on the Stability of Sampled-Data-Based LFC for Power Systems: A Delay-Interval-Dependent LKF Approach

This paper analyzes the stability problem of load frequency control (LFC) for power systems under uncertain transmission delays. First, an argumented LFC system model accounting for uncertainties in transmission delays is proposed. Then, a novel delay-interval-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) that takes into account both the upper and lower bounds of the transmission delay is proposed. Several less conservative stability criteria are derived using the proposed LKF. Based on the stability criterion obtained, the sampling interval and the upper and lower bounds of the transmission delay are taken as the conditions to guide the controller design. Finally, case studies are conducted based on a one-area power system and a three-area power system, both integrated with wind and solar power generation. The simulation comparison results demonstrate that the proposed LFC scheme exhibits strong robustness against uncertain transmission delays, load fluctuations, and the intermittent generation of wind and solar power. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Homotopy-based image reconstruction in breast ultrasound tomography

To diagnose breast cancer, an alternative approach to X-ray mammography and B-mode ultrasound is the Breast Ultrasound Computed Tomography (UCT). Concerning breast cancer detection, mammographic techniques have been considered as gold standard modality but these methods suffer through high rate of false-positive results and radiations. In addition, the use of low resolution images in the conventional ultrasound techniques is another problem that makes it difficult to differentiate between breast tissues and tumor existence. In this particular study, we have used a full wave-based tomographic technique to diagnose the breast cancer. While taking into account the physical characteristics, full wave-based approach constructs non-linear operator that transforms it as a nonlinear inverse problem or a minimization problem. To solve the non-linear inverse problem, we have used Homotopoy Continuation Methods (HCM), which is globally convergent method and provides multiple solutions. In the subsequent steps, to reduce the computational complexity and the high usage of memory for finding out the Jacobian of the cost function, we have applied discrete adjoint method. In the last, the effect of the noise to the reconstructed image has been tested. In this preliminary analysis with the use of adjoint methods, obtained results have shown the robustness and visibility of our proposed approach. © 2013 by Binary Information Press.

3D multipath planning for UAV based on network graph

According to the characteristic and the requirement of multipath planning, a new multipath planning method is proposed based on network. This method includes two steps： the construction of network and multipath searching. The construction of network proceeds in three phases： the skeleton extraction of the configuration space, the judgment of the cross points in the skeleton and how to link the cross points to form a network. Multipath searching makes use of the network and iterative penalty method （IPM） to plan multi-paths, and adjusts the planar paths to satisfy the requirement of maneuverability of unmanned aerial vehicle （UAV）. In addition, a new height planning method is proposed to deal with the height planning of 3D route. The proposed algorithm can find multiple paths automatically according to distribution of terrain and threat areas with high efficiency. The height planning can make 3D route following the terrain. The simulation experiment illustrates the feasibility of the proposed method.

A reinforcement learning-based dynamic multi-objective optimization approach for integrated timetabling and vehicle scheduling

Dynamic integrated timetabling and vehicle scheduling (D-ITVS) is essential for mitigating the negative impacts of service disruptions. It involves multiple rescheduling stages, with inherent optimization similarities across these stages. However, existing optimization approaches for the D-ITVS problem have not systematically exploited these similarities, overlooking the potential for decision knowledge from previous stages to inform the current stage. To address this gap, this paper proposes a reinforcement learning-based dynamic multi-objective optimization approach (RL-DMOA), which focuses on transferring decision knowledge between rescheduling stages. This approach models the optimization process of each rescheduling stage in the D-ITVS problem as a Markov decision process, incorporating a state space with vehicle information, action space for vehicle assignment, and a multi-objective reward function. A multi-objective deep reinforcement learning (M-DRL) agent is employed within the RL-DMOA to select actions based on the state at each decision point. The agent is constructed on a multi-objective deep Q-learning network (M-DQN), with a Q-value adjustment layer incorporated to prevent the selection of invalid actions. To select optimal actions while balancing the conflicts among multiple objectives, the M-DRL agent applies a non-dominated sorting selection strategy. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed RL-DMOA is capable of generating timetables and vehicle schedules with reduced costs, enhanced robustness, and improved convergence and diversity across all rescheduling stages. By balancing operational costs and passenger service quality, these improvements benefit transit operators, and during daily operations, passengers enjoy reduced travel costs and enhanced service reliability.

TSPT: Two-Step Prompt Tuning for class-incremental novel class discovery

In real-world applications, models often encounter a sequence of unlabeled new tasks, each containing unknown classes. This paper explores class-incremental novel class discovery (class-iNCD), which requires maintaining previously learned knowledge while discovering novel classes. We consider a more realistic and also more challenging scenario, which has a small number of initial known classes and a large number of unlabeled tasks, with the additional requirement of data privacy protection. A simple yet effective approach, Two-Step Prompt Tuning (TSPT), is proposed. TSPT tackles class-iNCD through prompt tuning, which is rehearsal-free and plug-and-play, protecting data privacy and significantly reducing the number of trainable parameters. TSPT consists of two main steps: (1) novel class discovery, which initializes the classifier using uniform clustering, and uses intra- and inter-sample consistency learning to discover novel classes; and, (2) knowledge fusion, where the prompt learned in the previous step is adapted as task-specific prompt, and additional optimal prompts are selected from a prompt pool to integrate knowledge from both old and new classes. Experiments on three datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of TSPT.

Legged robots have recently received widespread attention, and the online measurement/estimation of external torque/force places a vital role on the robust and stable controller design for legged robots. Although the external torque/force can be measured by installing force sensors, the reliability, cost and mechanical feasibility are concerning issues. This paper proposed a sensor-less external torque/force estimation for legged robot based on measurable joint position, velocity and torque. A predefined-time momentum observer (PTO) is proposed to achieve the convergence of the estimation error within the predefined time.
