In this paper, we revisit the interval observer design problem of harmonic oscillator system with unknown but bounded external disturbance and measurement noise. With the bounding information of the external disturbance and measurement noise, a high-gain interval observer is firstly defined and constructed for the harmonic oscillator system to realize the interval estimation on the state and the robust control of the system. Then, a switched high-gain interval observer is proposed to reduce the influence of the measurement noise for a tighter interval width on the state estimation. Finally, some numerical simulations are given to verify the theoretical results.

The rhesus macaque(Macaca mulatta)is a crucial experimental animal that shares many genetic,brain organizational,and behavioral characteristics with humans.A macaque brain atlas is fundamental to biomedical and evolutionary ***,even though connectivity is vital for understanding brain functions,a connectivity-based whole-brain atlas of the macaque has not previously been *** this study,we created a new whole-brain map,the Macaque Brainnetome Atlas(MacBNA),based on the anatomical connectivity profiles provided by high angular and spatial resolution ex vivo diffusion MRI *** new atlas consists of 248 cortical and 56 subcortical regions as well as their structural and functional *** parcellation and the diffusion-based tractography were evaluated with invasive neuronal-tracing and Nissl-stained *** a demonstrative application,the structural connectivity divergence between macaque and human brains was mapped using the Brainnetome atlases of those two species to uncover the genetic underpinnings of the evolutionary changes in brain *** resulting resource includes:(1)the thoroughly delineated Macaque Brainnetome Atlas(MacBNA),(2)regional connectivity profiles,(3)the postmortem high-resolution macaque diffusion and T2-weighted MRI dataset(Brainnetome-8),and(4)multi-contrast MRI,neuronal-tracing,and histological images collected from a single *** can serve as a common reference frame for mapping multifaceted features across modalities and spatial scales and for integrative investigation and characterization of brain organization and ***,it will enrich the collaborative resource platform for nonhuman primates and facilitate translational and comparative neuroscience research.

Cluster analysis is important in scientific and industrial fields. In this study, we proposed a novel chaotic biogeography-based optimization(CBBO) method, and applied it in centroid-based clustering methods. The results over three types of simulation data showed that this proposed CBBO method gave better performance than chaotic particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithm, firefly algorithm, and quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization. In all, our CBBO method is effective in centroid-based clustering.

Adaptive fuzzy control strategies are established to achieve global prescribed performance with prescribed-time convergence for strict-feedback systems with mismatched uncertainties and unknown nonlinearities. Firstly, to quantify the transient and steady performance constraints of the tracking error, a class of prescribed-time prescribed performance functions are designed, and a novel error transformation function is introduced to remove the initial value constraints and solve the singularity problem in existing works. Secondly, based on dynamic surface control methods, controllers with or without approximating structures are established to guarantee that the tracking error achieves prescribed transient performance and converges into a prescribed bounded set within prescribed time. In particular, the settling time and initial value of the prescribed performance function are completely independent of initial conditions of the tracking error and system parameters, which improves existing results. Moreover, with a novel Lyapunov-like energy function, not only the differential explosion problem frequently occurring in backstepping techniques is solved, but the drawback of the semi-global boundedness of tracking error induced by dynamic surface control can be overcome. The validity and effectiveness of the main results are verified by numerical simulations on practical examples. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Gene splicing site recognition is a very important research topic in smart healthcare. Gene splicing site recognition is of great significance, not only for the large-scale and high-quality computational annotation of genomes but also for the analysis and recognition of the gene sequences evolutionary process. It is urgent to study a reliable and effective algorithm for gene splice site recognition. Traditional Twin Support Vector Machine (TWSVM) algorithm has advantages in solving small-sample, nonlinear, and high-dimensional problems, but it cannot deal with parameter selection well. To avoid the blindness of parameter selection, particle swarm optimization algorithm was used to find the optimal parameters of twin support vector machine. Therefore, a Particle Swarm Optimization Twin Support Vector Machine (PSO-TWSVM) algorithm for gene splicing site recognition was proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm was compared with traditional Support Vector Machine algorithm, TWSVM algorithm, and Least Squares Support Vector Machine algorithm. The comparison results show that the positive sample recognition rate, negative sample recognition rate, and correlation coefficient (CC) of the proposed algorithm are the best among the four different support vector machine algorithms. The proposed algorithm effectively improves the recognition rate and the accuracy of splice sites. The comparison experiments verify the feasibility of the proposed algorithm. © 2023 Fuquan Zhang et al.

Conventional high-speed rotating machinery uses a contact structure to realize data transmission between rotating parts and fixed parts. Mechanical wear and vibration noise can interfere with the subsequent processing and fault diagnosis of vibration signals. This paper designs a contactless vibration signal transmission system for rotating machinery using laser sensing. It analyzes the non-coincidence error between the optical axis and the rotating axis, which causes the effective photosensitive area and practical power of the detector to change periodically with the frequency of the rotational speed, resulting in the vibration signal presenting various harmonics with the rotational speed angular frequency as the fundamental wave. A convenient time-frequency joint analysis method is proposed using fractional Fourier transform in time-frequency domain projection localization. Using mixed programming techniques of C# and Matlab, an upper computer interface for data storage, processing, network publishing, is developed to form a complete vibration signal processing system. © 2024, The Authors. Bioactive peptides derived from food, known for their low toxicity, are gaining prominence as potential food preservatives and antibacterial agents. This study introduces a novel antimicrobial peptide, WBp-1, sourced from wheat bran. Isolated and purified, WBp-1's amino acid sequence, IITGASSGIGKAIAKHFI, was identified through LC‒MS/MS. Characterized by a predominance of alkaline and hydrophobic amino acids, WBp-1 was predicted to be a stable, hydrophobic cationic peptide with an α-helical structure. It displayed significant antibacterial efficacy against Listeria monocytogenes, achieving a minimum inhibitory concentration of 150 μg/mL. WBp-1 exerts its bactericidal activity by disrupting cell membrane integrity, enhancing permeability, and altering membrane potential, fluidity, and surface hydrophobicity. Additionally, it impedes peptidoglycan synthesis through hydrogen bonding with penicillin-binding protein 4. Notably, WBp-1 shows minimal hemolytic activity and cytotoxicity to LO2 cells, even at 16× MIC. These properties highlight WBp-1's potential as a novel antibacterial agent and food preservative in combating Listeria monocytogenes. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

High Information Density and Low Coverage Data Storage in DNA with Efficient Channel Coding Schemes

DNA-based data storage has been attracting significant attention due to its extremely high data storage density, low power consumption, and long duration compared to conventional data storage media. Despite the recent advancements in DNA data storage technology, significant challenges remain. In particular, various types of errors can occur during the processes of DNA synthesis, storage, and sequencing, including substitution errors, insertion errors, and deletion errors. Furthermore, the entire oligo may be lost. In this work, we report a DNA-based data storage architecture that incorporates efficient channel coding schemes, including different types of error-correcting codes (ECCs) and constrained codes, for both the inner coding and outer coding for the DNA data storage channel. We also carried out large scale experiments to validate our proposed DNA-based data storage architecture. Specifically, 1.61 and 1.69 MB data were encoded into 30,000 oligos each, with information densities of 1.731 and 1.815, respectively. It has been found that the stored information can be fully recovered without any error at average coverages of 4.5 and 6.0, respectively. This experiment achieved the highest net information density and lowest coverage among existing DNA-based data storage experiments (with standard DNA), with data recovery rates and coverage approaching theoretical optima. Image ordinal estimation is to predict the ordinal label of a given image, which can be categorized as an ordinal regression problem. Recent methods formulate an ordinal regression problem as a series of binary classification problems. Such methods cannot ensure that the global ordinal relationship is preserved since the relationships among different binary classifiers are neglected. We propose a novel ordinal regression approach, termed Convolutional Ordinal Regression Forest or CORF, for image ordinal estimation, which can integrate ordinal regression and differentiable decision trees with a convolutional neural network for obtaining precise and stable global ordinal relationships. The advantages of the proposed CORF are twofold. First, instead of learning a series of binary classifiers independently, the proposed method aims at learning an ordinal distribution for ordinal regression by optimizing those binary classifiers simultaneously. Second, the differentiable decision trees in the proposed CORF can be trained together with the ordinal distribution in an end-to-end manner. The effectiveness of the proposed CORF is verified on two image ordinal estimation tasks, i.e. facial age estimation and image aesthetic assessment, showing significant improvements and better stability over the state-of-the-art ordinal regression methods.
