Turbulent drag reduction by sector-shaped counter-flow dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator

The primary objective in aircraft transportation is to minimize turbulent drag, thereby conserving energy and reducing emissions. We propose a sector-shaped counter-flow dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuator, which leverages jet synthesis for drag reduction. A drag control experiment was conducted in a low-speed wind tunnel with a controlled flow velocity of 9.6 m/s(Re = 1.445 × 10^(4)). This study investigated the effects of varying pulse frequencies and actuation voltages on the turbulent boundary layer. Using a hot-wire measurement system, we analyzed the pulsating and time-averaged velocity distributions within the boundary layer to evaluate the streamwise turbulent drag reduction. The results show that the local TDR decreases as the pulse frequency increases, reaching a maximum reduction of approximately 20.97% at a pulse frequency of 50 Hz. In addition, as the actuation voltage increases, the friction coefficient decreases, increasing the drag reduction rate. The maximum drag reduction of approximately 33.34% is achieved at an actuation voltage of 10 kV.

Infrared Dim Small Target Detection Algorithm Based on Adaptive Attention Transformer Network

This paper presents a novel algorithm for detecting infrared dim small targets in complex backgrounds by integrating both global and local feature information. The proposed method employs an adaptive attention transformer network which addresses challenges associated with computational complexity and information redundancy in traditional self-attention mechanisms. A global context aggregation module is designed to address the loss of small target features in high-level feature maps. This module compensates for spatial distribution information during the multi-scale feature fusion process, ensuring the preservation of target features. Comparison experiments were conducted on two datasets, NUAA-SIRST and IRSTD-1k. The proposed algorithm achieved 0.784 for mIoU and 0.878 for F-measure on NUAA-SIRST, 0.632 for mIoU and 0.807 for F-measure on IRST-1k, all of which are the highest values. The proposed algorithm shows a significant improvement over other existing detection algorithms, demonstrating its capability to accurately extract both local and global features of targets with high recall rates and low false alarm rates across various scenarios. Students behavior in the classroom has a close relation with the academic performance of students. With the widespread use of mobile phones, the students are easily distracted by mobile phones during the class. Therefore, analyzing the students behavior in the classroom becomes important to improve the quality of teaching. However, the existing methods for analyzing students behavior in the classroom, such as facial recognition, has low efficiency with large amounts of irrelevant data. And it also raises concerns about privacy and ethical issues. To solve this problem, in this paper, a novel mobile software called EasyClass has been developed to collect and quantify students behaviors. Based on the data collected by EasyClass, we propose to utilize user profiling to study students behavior in the classroom. The clustering algorithm is firstly employed to classify the data and generate semantically tags which describe students behavior in the classroom. Then a sequence and association rule analysis method is used to analyze the behavior tags and generated association rules. The results enable educators and non-expert users to gain a deeper understanding of students behavior in the classroom, and further improve the quality of the classroom teaching. © 2023 IEEE.

Automated wood defect detection is of great significance for improving wood utilization. However, the stains on the wood surface resemble defect features and it is difficult to distinguish the appearance of wane from defect-free regions. Relying solely on machine vision for extracting surface features of wood makes it difficult to achieve accurate defect detection. To address these challenges, we propose MMDNet, a multimodal detection network that combines point cloud and image data. By adaptively fusing point cloud and image features at multiple stages, the network effectively highlights wood surface defect regions. Additionally, we introduce an Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (ASPP) module into the network, which expands the network's receptive field and enables a comprehensive perception of the defects. Furthermore, we employ a deep supervision strategy to encourage the network to learn discriminative feature representations, enhancing the model's ability to differentiate defect regions. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of our method in detecting defects that are similar to the background and reducing interference from stains. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper studies a robust fault compensation and vibration suppression problem of flexible hypersonic *** controlled plant is represented by a cascade system composed of a nonlinear Ordinary Differential Equation(ODE)and an Euler-Bernoulli Beam Equation(EBBE),in which the vibration dynamics is coupled with the rigid dynamics and suffers from distributed faults.A state differential transformation is introduced to transfer distributed faults to an EBBE boundary and a longitudinal dynamics is refined by utilizing T-S fuzzy IF-THEN rules.A novel T-S fuzzy based fault-tolerant control algorithm is developed and related stability conditions are *** robust exponential stability and well-posedness are proved by using the modified l_(0)-semigroup based Lyapunov direct approach.A simulation study on the longitudinal dynamics of flexible hypersonic vehicles effectively verifies the validity of the developed theoretical results.

Aiming at the problem that the traffic flow has an low prediction accuracy due to varying randomness and high nonlinearity, an improved TSK fuzzy neural network prediction model by singular spectrum analysis is ***, the original traffic flow time series can be decomposed into several subseries by singular spectrum analysis (SSA). Then, the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy system was trained using simulated annealing genetic algorithm (SAGA) and minibatch gradient descent method (MBGD) combined with three techniques (RDA) of regularization, DropRule and *** prediction model of TSK fuzzy neural network is established to predict each subseries independently, and the forecasted traffic flow is obtained by superimposing the prediction results of each subseries. Finally, the traffic flow dataset of expressway tunnels in a city is used to verify the effectiveness of the model. Experimental results can show high traffic flow prediction accuracy of the model, and the model can accurately predict multiple different highway tunnels. © 2023 IEEE.

Wideband direction of arrival (DOA) estimation using sensor array is a noteworthy problem frequently occurring in many applications involving radar, sonar, and communication. We present a wideband DOA method based on a sparse Bayesian learning of multiple sub-bands jointly with the redundant dictionary matrix at the reference frequency. Explicitly enforcing the focusing operation and the singular value decomposition (SVD) to sensor measurements is motivated by a desire to decrease the computational complexity and storage capacity. A joint sparse Bayesian learning framework is proposed to deal with multiple sub-bands under one segment to obtain the DOA information. Moreover, the proposed method can be directly extended to multiple segments. Comparing to other wideband DOA estimation methods, the proposed method has the advantages of increased resolution, higher accuracy, and correlation of the sources, as well as not requiring the initial angles for the focusing matrix. Simulations are provided to show the effectiveness and improved performance of the proposed method. © 2024 SPIE.

To overcome the obstacles of poor feature extraction and little prior information on the appearance of infrared dim small targets, we propose a multi-domain attention-guided pyramid network (MAGPNet). Specifically, we design three modules to ensure that salient features of small targets can be acquired and retained in the multi-scale feature maps. To improve the adaptability of the network for targets of different sizes, we design a kernel aggregation attention block with a receptive field attention branch and weight the feature maps under different perceptual fields with attention mechanism. Based on the research on human vision system, we further propose an adaptive local contrast measure module to enhance the local features of infrared small targets. With this parameterized component, we can implement the information aggregation of multi-scale contrast saliency maps. Finally, to fully utilize the information within spatial and channel domains in feature maps of different scales, we propose the mixed spatial-channel attention-guided fusion module to achieve high-quality fusion effects while ensuring that the small target features can be preserved at deep layers. Experiments on public datasets demonstrate that our MAGPNet can achieve a better performance over other state-of-the-art methods in terms of the intersection of union, Precision, Recall, and F-measure. In addition, we conduct detailed ablation studies to verify the effectiveness of each component in our network. © 2024, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Due to the similarity in appearance and dense deployment of devices in industrial environments, relying solely on machine vision makes it challenging for inspection robots to accurately identify similar devices. Although wireless signals from industrial internet of things (IoT) can serve as identification features, signal fluctuations impact the accuracy and efficiency of recognition. To address this issue, this paper proposes a proximity estimation algorithm with position adjustment for autonomous industrial inspection. The algorithm considers the spatial relationships between nodes and the topological relationship between the signal strength and variations among the nodes. By analyzing the topological relationship between the signal strength and variations among the nodes, the robot autonomously adjusts its position and selects the proximal node based on the spatial topology relationship between them. We have built an inspection platform using quadruped robots to evaluate the effectiveness of the experiments. The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm further improves the efficiency of identifying proximal devices while ensuring the estimation accuracy of the algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Grasping tasks are crucial for the interaction between the robot and environment, requiring the robot to make autonomous decisions based on environmental conditions and instructions. Recently, multimodal Vision Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated significant potential for robotic grasping. However, previous work has often been confined to high-level planning due to the gap between the text output of VLMs and the numerical predictions of robot actions, as well as the challenges of transferring rich semantic information from large models to the prediction of grasping actions. In this paper, we co-fine-tune a pre-trained VLM using the mix of large-scale visual language data and robotic grasping trajectory data, integrating model into an end-to-end robot control system to construct a Vision Language Action Model (VLA) capable of generating the robot’s underlying actions. Simultaneously, to fully leverage the prior knowledge and reasoning capabilities of the pre-trained model, we insert a language reasoning structure to bridge the mapping from high-level tasks to low-level actions. This method first deduces the relevant information regarding the target object and the end-effector motions, followed by predicting the grasping actions value with finer granularity based on the language reasoning, thereby enhancing the accuracy of action predictions. A series of grasping experiments demonstrate that our method achieves a high grasping success rate under flexible language instructions and exhibits strong generalization capabilities for unseen objects and scenes. © 2024 IEEE.
