Higher N_(2)O production in sequencing batch reactors compared to continuous stirred tank reactors:effect of feast-famine cycles

Nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)is a potent greenhouse gas that can be emitted during the biological treatment of *** this study,a comparison of the long-term performance characteristics and N_(2)O production of sequencing batch reactors(SBR)and continuous stirred tank reactors(CSTR)during nitrite-based denitrification was *** was found that both reactors had NO_(2)^(-)-N removal efficiencies over 99.9%,but the N_(2)O-N emissions from the SBR reached~2.3%of the removal nitrite-N load,while in the CSTR it never exceeded 0.1%.High frequency sampling during one operation cycle of the SBR demonstrated that the N_(2)O accumulation ratio was~0.1%during the feast period,increased to~1.9%in the first five hours of the famine period,and then gradually reached~2.3%at the end of *** experiments showed that limiting extracellular electron donor is required for N_(2)O accumulation in cells from the SBR-famine period and that cells from the CSTR do not accumulate N_(2)O when either nitrite or carbon is *** notable difference in the two reactor communities was the high level of accumulation of intracellular granules,most likely polyhydroxybutyrate(PHB),in cells during the feast period in the *** assembly and binning found that one genome(PRO1),which is a Thauera,accounted for over half the metagenomic reads in both *** shifts in gene regulation nor community composition explained the observed differences in reactor performance suggesting some post-transcriptional regulation obligatorily linked to antecedent conditions underly increased N_(2)O production in the SBR.

Smart soft dielectric elastomer actuators(SSDEAs)possess wide applications in soft robotics due to their properties similar to natural muscles,including large deformation ratio,high energy density,and fast response ***,the complicated asymmetric and rate-dependent hysteresis property,creep property and quadratic input property of the SSDEA pose enormous challenges to its dynamic modeling and motion *** this paper,first,we construct the dynamic model of the SSDEA by connecting a square module,a one-sided Prandtl–Ishlinskii(OSPI)model and a linear system in series to describe the above *** key and innovative aspect of the dynamic modeling lies in cascading the square module in series with the OSPI model to construct the asymmetric hysteresis ***,a PI-funnel and inverse hysteresis compensation(PIFIHC)cascade control method of the SSDEA is proposed to actualize its tracking control *** performing the inversion operation on the asymmetric hysteresis model,the inverse hysteresis compensation controller(IHCC)is designed to compensate the asymmetric hysteresis property and quadratic input property of the *** addition,a PI-funnel controller is designed to cascade with the IHCC to construct the PIFIHC cascade controller to obtain a good tracking ***,the stability analysis of the PIFIHC cascade control system of the SSDEA is performed to theoretically prove that the tracking error can be controlled within the performance funnel and the steady-state error converges to ***,several practical tracking control experiments of the SSDEA are conducted,and RRMSEs are less than 2.30%for all *** experimental results indicate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed PIFIHC cascade control method of the SSDEA.

Multiple Fault Detection and Appliance Classification Using Shuttle Attention-Based Model

Electrical faults pose a significant risk of fire accidents, making their early detection and diagnosis critical for ensuring safety in buildings and electrical systems. Current fault detection methods relying on low-frequency power data inadequately capture subtle indicators of electrical faults. Moreover, these methods rarely engage in detecting multiple load types and fault categories. To this end, a new fault detection and appliance classification method was proposed. First, a new feature based on mutual information variational mode extraction (MIVME) was extracted. The feature can reflect the fault signal’s dynamics and variations on multiple scales. Further, a new model called load fault shuffle attention temporal convolutional network (LFSATCN) was designed to identify multiple load fault types. The model utilities autocorrelation channel attention and local amplification attention to capture the load fault details in the feature. The proposed model was evaluated on a self-collected high-frequency load fault dataset, as well as public datasets. The load fault dataset contains data samples of electrical faults, such as short circuits, open circuits, relay malfunctions and arc faults. The comparison result reveal that our method outperforms the state-of-art approaches. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Power optimisation of wind energy conversion system using T-S fuzzy approach

This paper presents a maximum power point tracking control for a wind energy conversion system (WECS) using a squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) which supplies a DC load through AC/DC converter. The goal of the developed fuzzy control law is to track the reference signals corresponding to the maximum power generation that leads to an optimal operation of the induction generator. First, the dynamics behaviour of the WECS is represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Then, a H∞ observer-based fuzzy controller is proposed to achieve a maximum power point tracking even when we consider a varying wind speed profile. The controller and observer gains are calculated by solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Robust production of N-acetyl-glucosamine in engineered Escherichia coli from glycerol-glucose mixture

Achieving a balanced cell growth and biosynthesis of target products is a pivotal challenge confronted in the realm of green biomanufacturing of chemicals, and it holds the promise of significantly enhancing the titer/yield/productivity of the target products. The co-utilization of carbon sources has emerged as a proven approach for the precise regulation of cell growth and biosynthesis processes, thereby serving as a potent strategy to expedite the production of chemicals. In our previous study, we successfully demonstrated the efficient production of N-acetyl-glucosamine in engineered Escherichia coli by leveraging an appropriate catabolic division of labor, utilizing a mixture of glycerol and glucose as the carbon source. In this study, we further refined the division of labor between these two carbon sources by meticulously regulating the expression of the zwf gene, which encodes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and is crucial in diverting carbon source to the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP). After comparing three strategies for balancing cell growth and production, the engineered strain NAG-1 with zwf knocked out aided by the optimization of the glycerol-to-glucose ratio and the feeding mode of carbon sources resulted in robust production of N-acetyl-glucosamine. Remarkable production in a 5 L bioreactor was achieved, obtaining 249 g/L of N-acetyl-glucosamine with a yield of 0.684 g/g of total carbon sources (specifically, 0.791 g/g of glucose) and a productivity of 3.46 g/L/h. These results establish NAG-1 as the most efficient microbial cell factory reported thus far for the bioproduction of N-acetyl-glucosamine. The robust production of N-acetyl-glucosamine in E. coli using a mixture of glycerol and glucose suggests the immense potential of mixed carbon sources in the industrial green biomanufacturing of chemicals. © 2025 The Authors

The integrity of structural components is a major concern in reactor safety. Cladding materials can fail when hydrogen uptake is in excess of the terminal solid solubility (TSS). Previous studies on hydrogenation or secondary hydriding (SH) focused mainly on loss of coolant accident (LOCA) and fuel ballooning. Most of these studies are carried out in autoclave conditions and they preclude the contribution of ionizing radiations (neutrons and gamma) to hydrogen generation during normal reactor condition. This study is devoted to the hydrogenation of Zircaloy-4 (Zry-4) cladding material during normal reactor operation and during the early phase of core degradation in a LOCA event. Radiolysis and corrosion are considered as hydrogen sources during normal reactor operation while corrosion is considered in the early phase of core degradation. Using appropriate initial and boundary conditions peculiar to pressurized water reactors (PWRs), diffusion equation is solved in a defective Zry-4 fuel system using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.2. Results show that the average corrosive source term (1.279E-4 mol m-3 s-1) is higher than the radiolytic source term (3.6594E-7 mol m-3 s-1) by a factor of 350 during normal reactor operation. By integrating in two kinetics regimes and setting 6 years as the maximum lifetime of Zry-4, the amount of H dissolved in the cladding material at a temperature of 633 K are 6.54E-03 and 2.02 wt. ppm due to radiolysis and corrosion respectively. These values are safe compared to the TSS of dissolution of Zry-4 which is 117 wt. ppm at the same referenced temperature. However, in the early phase of core degradation where the source term is 9.405E-01 mol m-3 s-1, SH is observed in 13 days. A comparison is made between hydrogenation by integration in two regimes and hydrogenation using Sievert s law. In the iron and steel industry, the optimal scheduling of by-product gas is crucial to achieve safe and efficient energy operation. However, the scheduling method with a single-time scale cannot cope with the impact of forecast uncertainty. It is difficult to use static modeling to solve the impact of the multi-working condition characteristics of energy coupling equipment and the complex and changeable state of energy on scheduling. For solving the above problems, a multi-time scale scheduling method based on equipment dynamic modeling is proposed in this paper. The upper layer is day-ahead scheduling layer, which considers long-term energy information to establish an economically optimal rolling optimization scheduling model. The lower layer is intraday real-time scheduling layer, which is based on the solution results of day-ahead scheduling and combined with short-time scale energy information. The dynamic model of each energy coupling equipment is used for real-time scheduling. In order to verify the validity of the proposed method in this paper, an experiment was carried out on the operation data of the by-product gas system in the iron and steel industrial industry. The results show that the proposed method reduces the operating cost and has better application value compared with the traditional MPC optimal scheduling method that does not consider the dynamic characteristics of equipment.

This paper investigates the cooperative link configuration problem for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Underwater Acoustic (UWA) sensor networks with Energy Harvesting (EH), which aims to maximize long-term cumulative capacity by jointly optimizing cooperation relay, AUV transmission power, and relay transmission power. Subject to unknown time-varying Channel State Information (CSI), unpredictable stochastic EH, and variable communication topology caused by AUV mobility, the proposed problem is an unknown dynamic combination decision optimization problem. To resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology with unknown time-varying CSI and EH, a novel collaborative contextual multi-armed bandit learning framework is proposed, which allows relay nodes to learn cooperatively and enriches the learning information of relays. Consequently, the proposed learning framework can resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology efficiently, thereby achieving the superior link configuration quickly. Besides, a learning-rate adjustment rule for the dynamic UWA communication topology is proposed to adaptively balance the exploration-exploitation, thereby avoiding missing the real superior joint relay-power configuration. Finally, simulation results show the significantly superiority of the proposed scheme. © 2015 IEEE.

Interactive hand mesh reconstruction from singleview images poses a significant challenge with the severe occlusion and depth ambiguity inherent in interactive hand gestures. Recent approaches that employ probabilistic models and tokenpruned techniques have shown decent results in multi-view human body reconstruction. Nevertheless, these methods have not fully utilized multi-scale semantic information from multiview images and are not applicable in scenarios involving severe occlusion during dual-hand interactions. Simultaneously, current single-view methods independently reconstruct the left and right hands, which are ineffective in enhancing the interaction between both hands. To address these challenges, we propose CAMInterHand, a cooperative attention-based method for multi-view interactive hand pose and mesh reconstruction. Specifically, CAMInterHand extracts local pyramid features and global vertex features from multi-scale feature maps of multi-view images, enabling the exploration of rich local semantic information and facilitating effective feature alignment. Furthermore, CAMInterHand employs the cooperative attention fusion module to fuse all features from multi-view images, enhancing interactions among vertices of dual hands within global and local contexts. We conduct extensive experiments on the large-scale multi-view dataset InterHand2.6M and CAMInterHand achieves a substantial performance improvement over existing methods for multi-view and single-view interactive hand reconstruction.
