EAVFormer: an end-to-end audio and visual emotion recognition network based on transformers

Audio-visual emotion recognition, integrating information from various sources, enhances the comprehensive understanding and analysis of human emotions. However, existing methods in this field primarily focus on feature fusion, often overlooking the equally crucial stage of feature extraction. Typically, these methods employ pre-trained models to extract features during the initial phase, complicating modality-specific feature extraction and increasing system complexity and coordination challenges, which hinder effective audio-visual feature fusion. To address these issues, we propose an end-to-end audio-visual emotion recognition model, EAVFormer. For the audio modality, we input raw audio signals along with a mix of mel spectrograms and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs), employing a hierarchical transformer technique that facilitates both shallow local and deep global feature extraction to fully harness complementary acoustic information, significantly enhancing the acoustic modality’s contribution. For the visual modality, we input raw video frames and employ a hierarchical transformer feature extraction method that integrates three-dimensional convolution and spatio-temporal self-attention mechanisms to address spatial and temporal redundancies and dependencies, thereby enhancing the expression of dynamic visual information. In the modal fusion stage, we construct dual-modality representations and encode inter-modal information while preserving modality-specific and meaningful intra-modal features. Testing on three popular datasets RAVDESS, CREMA-D, and CMU-MOSEI demonstrates that EAVFormer surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods in audio-visual emotion recognition accuracy, achieving rates of 95.17%, 86.13%, and 78.22%, respectively.

Contextual Multi-Armed Bandit-Based Dynamic Cooperative Link Configuration for AUV in UWASNs With Energy Harvesting

This paper investigates the cooperative link configuration problem for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Underwater Acoustic (UWA) sensor networks with Energy Harvesting (EH), which aims to maximize long-term cumulative capacity by jointly optimizing cooperation relay, AUV transmission power, and relay transmission power. Subject to unknown time-varying Channel State Information (CSI), unpredictable stochastic EH, and variable communication topology caused by AUV mobility, the proposed problem is an unknown dynamic combination decision optimization problem. To resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology with unknown time-varying CSI and EH, a novel collaborative contextual multi-armed bandit learning framework is proposed, which allows relay nodes to learn cooperatively and enriches the learning information of relays. Consequently, the proposed learning framework can resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology efficiently, thereby achieving the superior link configuration quickly. Besides, a learning-rate adjustment rule for the dynamic UWA communication topology is proposed to adaptively balance the exploration-exploitation, thereby avoiding missing the real superior joint relay-power configuration. Finally, simulation results show the significantly superiority of the proposed scheme. © 2015 IEEE.

Conditional Feature Generative Adversarial Network for Fault Diagnosis of Axial Piston Pump

A conditional feature generative adversarial network (CFGAN) for small sample data augmentation was proposed in this paper to address the issue of the scarcity of fault samples in axial piston pump fault diagnosis. With one-dimensional data as input, a feature extractor was constructed in this method to extract features, bringing about an original deep feature dataset. Subsequently, this dataset was employed to train the generation model for enhancing the training efficiency. Additionally, the Wasserstein distance was introduced to improve the stability of the model training. Conditional labels were added to the inputs of the generator and discriminator to guide the model's training and generate high-quality feature datasets. Afterward, the effectiveness of the proposed data generation method was verified through the data obtained from the Paderborn Bearing Dataset and an axial piston pump fault simulation testbed. The fault diagnosis accuracy of the augmented dataset was significantly improved compared to the non-augmented dataset. Furthermore, a multi-scale convolutional neural network was established and utilized different-sized convolutional kernels to extract and fuse multi-scale information from the samples. This approach enabled the capture of more comprehensive fault state features, contributing to enhanced diagnostic accuracy. The experimental data of the axial piston pump validate that the diagnostic accuracy with fused multi-sensor signals was higher compared to a single sensor. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

G-Anomaly: A Pyramid Graph Transformer-based Vision-Language Model for General industrial Anomaly Detection

Visual-language alignment is crucial for enhancing the domain adaptability of industrial anomaly detection models. However, the existing methods overlook the importance of structured image representation, fail to further distinguish topological differences between anomalies and the inherent textures of products, which reduces the accuracy of semantic matching. To address this problem, we propose a novel industrial anomaly detection model G-Anomaly, to preserve the topological structure of the sample images and further enhance the model’s domain adaptability. We designed Pyramid Graph Transformer as a visual encoder to extract multi-scale visual features, which can directly preserve the structural relationships between different regions of the image, and also optimize the over-smoothing issue present in deep graph networks, thereby retaining the distinguishability of anomalous nodes. Additionally, we design a Multi-level Domain Adapter that ensures semantic consistency of anomalous features across different scales and contexts by performing visual-language matching at various resolutions and levels of abstraction. This enhances the model’s domain adaptability for anomaly detection for a wide range of industrial products. We collect and craft an actual solar panel dataset PV_actual AD, and conduct extensive experiments on the public dataset MVTec AD as well as the actual solar panel dataset PV_actual AD. This has demonstrated that G-Anomaly not only performs well in standard testing environments but also exhibits robustness and domain adaptability for anomaly detection tasks in real-world scenarios. © 2025 IEEE. CPL-SLAM: Centralized Collaborative Multi-Robot Visual-Inertial SLAM Using Point-and-Line Features

Traditional visual-inertial SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) systems predominantly rely on feature point matching from a single robot to realize the robot pose estimation and environment map construction. However, in complex scenarios, these traditional systems struggle with issues such as tracking failures due to illumination changes, rapid movements, and low-texture environments, and they perform poorly in terms of mapping efficiency and global consistency. To address these challenges, we propose a centralized collaborative SLAM system that employs both point and line features for tracking in the robot and map fusion in the cloud. The proposed system leverages the fusion of point and line features across all instances in the process, which allows our method to achieve higher localization accuracy in structured, low-texture scenes. With the aid of classifying gravity-aligned vertical lines and spatial parallel lines, the proposed system can deliver faster and more accurate odometry in complex scenes. Furthermore, we developed intra-robot and inter-robot loop closure detection methods based on point and line features, generating a globally consistent sparse point cloud and structured scene map in the cloud. Our method is able to build richer maps while improving accuracy compared to existing methods. Experimental results on public datasets and in real-world environments show that, compared to existing advanced methods, our approach demonstrates better performance. © 2014 IEEE.

Global-Local Context Enhanced Yolo for Small Object Detection in Uav Images

Object detection using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has emerged as a criti cal application across diverse domains. However, the wide-angle views of drones often result in images containing a high density of small objects, posing chal lenges for object detection such as few learnable features, significant occlusion, and an imbalanced distribution of positive and negative samples. To address these issues, this paper introduces AGLC-YOLO, an enhanced version of the YOLOv7 architecture specifically designed for detecting small objects in UAV images. AGLC-YOLO integrates global and local context information through a Attention guide Global-Local Context Information Extraction (AGLC) module. This module employs parallel dilated convolutions to capture local context infor mation and a transformer-based structure to extract global dependencies, which are then fused using an improved attention mechanism. The network also adds an additional small object detection head to enrich the small object information in the model. Additionally, AGLC-YOLO utilizes an auxiliary bounding box in con junction with the Inner-Wise Intersection over Union (Inner-WIoU) loss function to accelerate the bounding box regression process and improve detection accu racy. Experimental results on the VisDrone and ManipalUav datasets demonstrate that AGLC-YOLO achieves significant improvements over the baseline YOLOv7 model, with anincrease of 3%inAP50and2.7%inAP95ontheVisDronedataset, and 1.9% in AP50 and 2% in AP95 on the ManipalUav dataset. © 2025, The Authors. sEMG (surface electromyography) signal control of bionic prostheses has been widely studied over the past few years. In particular, sparse sEMG signals are rapidly developing in the field of gesture recognition for their convenience, noninvasiveness, and ease of access. However, compared with high-density EMG signals, sparse EMG signals lack rich feature information, which in turn affects gesture recognition accuracy. In order to reduce the loss of feature information of sparse EMG signals in the spatio-temporal dimension, this paper proposes a hybrid neural network Res-LSTM combining residual network and long short-term memory network. The ordinary convolutional blocks in the CNN network are replaced with residual blocks, and the final fully connected layer is removed and a constant mapping layer is added to adequate extraction of spatial feature information of the data. The Res layer’s output is utilized as the input for the long and short-term memory (LSTM) network, which further extracts the features of the data in the temporal dimension, and finally completes the categorization output through a fully connected layer. The average accuracy of 91.11% for gesture-motion classification was verified by training on a homebrew dataset;and tested on a public dataset, NinaPro DB1, with an average accuracy of 91.03%. The experimental findings indicate that the proposed Res-LSTM network framework contributes to solving the problem of lack of feature information of sparse sEMG signals and improves the pattern recognition accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this study, TiC + TiB2 nano-ceramics reinforced high–Cr die steels were successfully prepared using aluminum-based master alloy as a carrier for the nano-ceramics. The impact of nano-ceramics on the microstructure of steels as well as the tensile properties and friction and wear properties under high temperature conditions were explored. The incorporated nano-ceramics can significantly refine the microstructure of steels, resulting in finer and more uniformly precipitated carbides, thereby effectively improving the mechanical properties of steels. Compared with unmanipulated high–Cr die steels, the high-temperature (550 °C) yield strength of high–Cr steels reinforced with 0.02 wt% nano-ceramic was increased from 963 MPa to 1274 MPa. The volume wear rate of nano-ceramics reinforced high Cr steels reached 11.9 × 10−13 m3/m, 3.4 × 10−13 m3/m, 5.6 × 10−13 m3/m and 6.3 × 10−13 m3/m under the four conditions of 400 °C-30 N-300 r/min, 550 °C-20 N-300 r/min, 550 °C-30 N-300 r/min and 550 °C-40 N-300 r/min, which were reduced by 23.7 %, 34.6 %, 34.9 % and 35.1 % respectively. These results provide a new insight into improving the high-temperature friction and wear properties of steels. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.
