Fundamental Limits of Multiple-Access Integrated Sensing and Communication Systems

A state-dependent discrete memoryless multiple access channel is considered to model an integrated sensing and communication system, where two transmitters wish to convey messages to a receiver while simultaneously estimating the state parameter sequences through echo signals. In particular, the sensing state parameters are assumed to be correlated with the channel state. In this setup, improved inner and outer bounds for capacity-distortion region are derived. The inner bound is based on an achievable scheme that combines message cooperation and joint compression of past transmitted codewords and echo signals at each transmitter, resulting in unified cooperative communication and sensing. The outer bound is based on the ideas of dependence balance for communication rate, genie-aided state estimator and rate-limited constraints on sensing distortion. The proposed inner and outer bounds are proved to improve the state-of-the-art bounds. Finally, numerical examples are provided to demonstrate that our new inner and outer bounds strictly improve the existing results. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

ORT: Occlusion-robust for multi-object tracking

Although the joint-detection-and-tracking paradigm has promoted the development of multi-object tracking (MOT) significantly, the long-term occlusion problem is still unsolved. After a period of trajectory inactivation due to occlusion, it is difficult to achieve trajectory reconnection with appearance features because they are no longer reliable. Although using motion cues does not suffer from occlusion, the commonly used Kalman Filter is also ineffective in its long-term inertia prediction in cases of no observation updates or wrong updates. Besides, occlusion is prone to cause multiple track-detection pairs to have close similarity scores during the data association phase. The direct use of the Hungarian algorithm to give the global optimal solution may generate the identity switching problem. In this paper, we propose the Long-term Spatio-Temporal Prediction (LSTP) module and the Ordered Association (OA) module to alleviate the occlusion problem in terms of motion prediction and data association, respectively. The LSTP module estimates the states of all tracked objects over time using a combination of spatial and temporal Transformers. The spatial Transformer models crowd interaction and learns the influence of neighbors, while the temporal Transformer models the temporal continuity of historical trajectories. Besides, the LSTP module also predicts the visibilities of the motion prediction boxes, which denote the occlusion attributes of trajectories. Based on the occlusion attribute and active state, the association priority is defined in the OA module to associate trajectories in order, which helps to alleviate the identity switching problem. Comprehensive experiments on the MOT17 and MOT20 benchmarks indicate the superiority of the proposed MOT framework, namely Occlusion-Robust Tracker (ORT). Without using any appearance information, our ORT can achieve competitive performance beyond other state-of-the-art trackers in terms of trajectory accuracy and purity.

The lack of facial features caused by wearing masks degrades the performance of facial recognition *** occluded face recognition methods cannot integrate the computational resources of the edge layer and the device ***,previous research fails to consider the facial characteristics including occluded and unoccluded *** solve the above problems,we put forward a device-edge collaborative occluded face recognition method based on cross-domain feature ***,the device-edge collaborative face recognition architecture gets the utmost out of maximizes device and edge resources for real-time occluded face ***,a cross-domain facial feature fusion method is presented which combines both the explicit domain and the implicit domain ***,a delay-optimized edge recognition task scheduling method is developed that comprehensively considers the task load,computational power,bandwidth,and delay tolerance constraints of the *** method can dynamically schedule face recognition tasks and minimize recognition delay while ensuring recognition *** experimental results show that the proposed method achieves an average gain of about 21%in recognition latency,while the accuracy of the face recognition task is basically the same compared to the baseline method.

Face detection has achieved tremendous strides thanks to convolutional neural networks. However, dense face detection remains an open challenge due to large face scale variation, tiny faces, and serious occlusion. This paper presents a robust, dense face detector using global context and visual attention mechanisms which can significantly improve detection accuracy. Specifically, a global context fusion module with top-down feedback is proposed to improve the ability to identify tiny faces. Moreover, a visual attention mechanism is employed to solve the problem of occlusion. Experimental results on the public face datasets WIDER FACE and FDDB demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Multi-UAV Collaborative Mission Planning Method for Self-Organized Sensor Data Acquisition

In recent years,sensor technology has been widely used in the defense and control of sensitive areas in cities,or in various scenarios such as early warning of forest fires,monitoring of forest pests and diseases,and protection of endangered *** sensors to collect data and then utilizing unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)to collect the data stored in the sensors has replaced traditional manual data collection as the dominant *** current strategies for efficient data collection in above scenarios are still imperfect,and the low quality of the collected data and the excessive energy consumed by UAV flights are still the main problems faced in data *** regards this,this paper proposes a multi-UAV mission planning method for self-organized sensor data acquisition by comprehensively utilizing the techniques of self-organized sensor clustering,multi-UAV mission area allocation,and sub-area data acquisition scheme *** improvedα-hop clustering method utilizes the average transmission distance to reduce the size of the collection sensors,and the K-Dimensional method is used to form a multi-UAV cooperative workspace,and then,the genetic algorithm is used to trade-off the speed with the age of information(AoI)of the collected information and the energy consumption to form the multi-UAV data collection operation *** combined optimization scheme in paper improves the performance by 95.56%and 58.21%,respectively,compared to the traditional baseline *** order to verify the excellent generalization and applicability of the proposed method in real scenarios,the simulation test is conducted by introducing the digital elevation model data of the real terrain,and the results show that the relative error values of the proposed method and the performance test of the actual flight of the UAV are within the error interval of±10%.Then,the advantages and disadvantages of the present method with the existing mainstream schemes are tested,and

Unveiling High-speed Follow-up Consultation for Chronic Disease Treatment: A Pediatric Hospital Case in China

In developing countries suffering from a severe shortage of physicians, the follow-up clinical consultation of long-term chronic care becomes a high-speed collaborative work, which has to be conducted in a few minutes. Although much existing work studies how time factors affect physicians' workflows and requirements for information systems, high-speed chronic care is yet to be well investigated. This work bridges the gap by presenting a case of a pediatric hospital in China. We focus on the processes of follow-up consultations, the factors enabling physicians to complete consultation in several minutes, as well as the challenges faced by physicians and patients. Through observations and interviews, we find that physicians conduct multiple tasks (information acquisition, patient-provider communication, and medical data documentation) simultaneously to reduce the consultation duration. Adopting an information summary alternative is the key to fast information acquisition. Templates and references in EMR contribute to rapid documentation and prescription. However, multitasking brings physicians a heavy cognitive load. It also severely compresses the duration of patient-provider communication. As a result, some of the patients' needs, especially emotional ones, are neglected. Based on these findings, we discuss the characteristics and requirements of high-speed chronic care and accordingly propose design suggestions. © 2022 ACM.

Recently, the visual instruction multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have been extensively studied in the nature scenario. However, current remote sensing (RS) MLLMs mainly focus on image-level understanding and typically allow interaction only through text instructions, resulting in limited accuracy and efficiency. To address those limitations, a visual instruction model is proposed in this article to extend MLLM's fine-grained perception ability by incorporating bounding boxes with language instruction, aiming at achieving region-level visual understanding. To achieve this goal, a visual instruction dataset featuring multi-modal box-based region-text pairs is constructed. Furthermore, the visual instructions and images are encoded by the different encoders and subsequently fed into a large language model (LLM) along with text instruction tokens for tuning. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the proposed model's promising performance in region-level image comprehension. © 2024 IEEE.

The precise detection and segmentation of tumor lesions are very important for lung cancer computer-aided ***,in PET/CT(Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography)lung images,the lesion shapes are complex,the edges are blurred,and the sample numbers are *** solve these problems,this paper proposes a Multi-branch Cross-scale Interactive Feature fusion Transformer model(MCIF-Transformer Mask RCNN)for PET/CT lung tumor instance segmentation,The main innovative works of this paper are as follows:Firstly,the ResNet-Transformer backbone network is used to extract global feature and local feature in lung *** pixel dependence relationship is established in local and non-local fields to improve the model perception ***,the Cross-scale Interactive Feature Enhancement auxiliary network is designed to provide the shallow features to the deep features,and the cross-scale interactive feature enhancement module(CIFEM)is used to enhance the attention ability of the fine-grained ***,the Cross-scale Interactive Feature fusion FPN network(CIF-FPN)is constructed to realize bidirectional interactive fusion between deep features and shallow features,and the low-level features are enhanced in deep semantic ***,4 ablation experiments,3 comparison experiments of detection,3 comparison experiments of segmentation and 6 comparison experiments with two-stage and single-stage instance segmentation networks are done on PET/CT lung medical image *** results showed that APdet,APseg,ARdet and ARseg indexes are improved by 5.5%,5.15%,3.11%and 6.79%compared with Mask RCNN(resnet50).Based on the above research,the precise detection and segmentation of the lesion region are realized in this *** method has positive significance for the detection of lung tumors.
