Multi-dimensional parameters such as direction of arrival (DoA) and polarization of the high-frequency (HF) signals represent the ionospheric channel information and are of great importance for HF application systems. Electrically large polarization-sensitive arrays are suitable for practical use in estimating the multi-dimensional parameters, but suffer from relative amplitude-phase error between monopole and loop elements. A novel method is proposed to estimate the multidimensional parameters with an electrically large monopole-crossed-loops array. The response of an electrically large array, including the amplitude-phase error, is modeled by the vector effective length of each antenna element. The MUSIC-based estimation of the DoA and the amplitude-phase error is performed by parallel alternating projections, and then the estimation of the polarization parameters is completed. Simulations verify that the proposed method compensates for the random amplitude-phase error and effectively combines the monopoles and crossed-loops in the array to achieve multidimensional parameter estimation, thus improving performance compared to 1-2-dimensional arrays. © 2025 SPIE.

To further accelerate the analysis of monostatic electromagnetic (EM) scattering problems of objects, an improved compressive sensing (CS)-based model is proposed. First, an orthogonal subspace spanned by the wide-angle induced currents is identified by means of the wide-angle incident sources. Then, the sparse transform of the induced currents is replaced by the subspace projection. In addition, an optimal number of measurements is determined, only slightly larger than the dimension of the subspace. Finally, the recovery algorithm is simplified to the least-squares method to solve the resulting overdetermined system. Compared with the traditional CS-based model, the proposed model significantly improves the efficiency of the recovery step and optimizes both the requirement for and the way of determining the number of measurements. © 2023 IEEE.

Spectrally-constrained sequences (SCSs) are primarily used in emerging systems operating over non-contiguous spectrum such as cognitive radio and cognitive radar. In order to obtain more SCSs, firstly, a novel type of SCS called periodic zero-correlation zone spectrally-constrained sequence(PZCZ-SCS) is proposed in this paper. Then, based on time-frequency synthesis analysis, the conditions that the PZCZ-SCSs must satisfy in terms of "spectral constraint" are derived. Specifically, it is a divisible difference set with parametersλ1 = k and λ1 > λ2. Finally, the construction of PZCZ-SCSs is presented by using the Chinese remainder theorem. Through this research, a new class of SCS is provided for cognitive radio. © 2025 SPIE.

A Multiscale Convolution SAR Image Target Recognition Method Based on Complex-Valued Neural Networks

Recent advances in deep learning have driven significant success in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) automatic target recognition, particularly through convolutional neural network (CNN) based classification algorithms. However, SAR images possess distinctive physical scattering properties, owing to their unique imaging mechanism. Many deep learning algorithms rely solely on amplitude information, ignoring phase information, which may result in the loss of information in the original complex-valued SAR image and suboptimal performance. To tackle these problems, this article introduces a SAR target recognition approach based on complex-valued operations, designated as complex-valued residual mish activation and convolution block attention module (CBAM) net (CRMC-Net). The CRMC-Net effectively utilizes the amplitude and phase information in complex-valued SAR data. Specifically, first, the elements of CNN, including the input and output layers, the convolution layers, the activation functions, and the pooling layers, are extended to the complex-valued domain. Second, in order to further enhance the representation ability of the model, multiscale information of the target is extracted through different convolution kernel sizes. Finally, the network constructs many complex-valued operation blocks to enhance the robustness of the designed network, including the complex-valued residual block, complex-valued Mish activation function, and complex-valued CBAM. The experimental results obtained from the moving and stationary target capture and recognition dataset and OpenSARShip2.0 dataset demonstrate that the proposed network model outperforms the traditional real-valued models. It can further reduce the classification error and enhance performance. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

In urban environment, communication signals encompass non-line-of-sight (NLOS) paths that contain environmental information. This paper investigates utilizing NLOS component signal to estimate the environment parameters, and uses these environmental parameters to achieve blind UEs (User Equipment) positioning. Specifically, this paper first analyzes the relationship between environmental parameters and the time of arrival (TOA) of NLOS signals. Second, an algorithm is proposed that utilizes the TOA of one-order NLOS signals in uplink signals between distributed UEs and base stations (BS) to estimate environmental parameters via maximum likelihood estimation. Subsequently, leveraging the obtained environmental parameters, achieving the positioning of blind UEs. Finally, numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 SPIE.

In the realm of signal processing, modulation signals like PSK (Phase Shift keying) and QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) can achieve a substantial signal-to-noise ratio enhancement through aliasing transmission subsequent to clustering and sorting. This paper introduces a novel approach to compressed Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) estimation, leveraging amplitude-phase clustering signals. The compression matrix is meticulously crafted based on the distinctive amplitude and phase characteristics. Subsequently, the study delves into an analysis of the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) under full sampling conditions. Ultimately, TDOA estimation is carried out employing the Approximate Maximum Likelihood (AML) method. Simulation outcomes underscore the commendable performance of compressed sampling TDOA estimation predicated on amplitude and phase clustering, falling within an order of magnitude of that achieved through full sampling. © 2025 SPIE.

Compared with the Wi-Fi received signal strength (RSS) commonly used in indoor localization, channel state information (CSI) contains physical layer information such as amplitude and phase of each subcarrier during signal transmission. Therefore, the indoor localization based on (CSI) can achieve higher accuracy, which has been widely used. However, when bandwidth is insufficient, it is challenging to distinguish the multiple-path components in CSI. In order to further improve the estimated accuracy of the line of sight (LOS) path time of arrival (TOA), multiple subbands are considered. In this paper, the Cramer-Rao Bounds (CRBs) of multiple-path TOA estimation for coherent and non-coherent processing of two subbands are derived. In addition, a concise approximate of CRB on TOA of LOS path is given, which can directly reveal the effect of key variables, such as time delay and phase difference between two subbands. Through simulation, the performance of single subband, coherent and non-coherent processing of two subbands are compared, and the hyper-coherent effect on LOS path TOA estimation with two subbands is verified. © 2025 SPIE.

Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is a rapidly evolving field with extensive application prospects. Environmental reconstruction (ER) is an important content of ISAC. Existing ER techniques often require large sample sizes or specific signals, which significantly limit their application. User Equipments (UEs) widely distributed in the environment and their communication signals provide an adequate measurement basis. However, there are challenges in utilizing communication signals due to limited research, and difficulties in identifying and extracting Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) signals. This paper proposes a distributed ER algorithm based on Angle of Arrival (AOA) and Time of Flight (TOF) information of NLOS signals, enabling identification and utilization of various order NLOS signals under complex NLOS conditions. A series of simulation delays validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 SPIE.

Wireless indoor positioning currently has a wider range of application, and high-precision positioning is considered a key capability after 5G. Angle-of-Arrival (AOA) and Time-of-arrival (TOA) positioning techniques has received widespread attention because it requires only two base stations and does not need synchronization time to complete the positioning. However, the disadvantage is that a small angle measurement error will have a large impact on the positioning accuracy. In this paper, an approach to joint line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) localization based on TOA and AOA measurements of both direct and reflected paths was proposed. In addition, a pseudo-linear algorithm was used to provide a closed form solution for localization. The effect of measurement errors on pseudo-linear estimation was analyzed to enhance estimation accuracy and compare it with maximum likelihood estimation and CRLB (Cramér-Rao Lower Bound). Simulation results indicate that the positioning model and error analysis employed in this study are feasible and meet the requirements for high-precision positioning. © 2025 SPIE.
