The new types of multi-component Li3+xMg2-2xNb1-xTi2xO6 (0≤x≤1) solid-solution ceramics were designed based on the Li2TiO3-Li3NbO4-MgO pseudo ternary phase diagram and studied for millimeter-wave applications. The ceramics showed a full range of solid solubility between the Li3Mg2NbO6 and Li2TiO3 endmembers. As the doping content (x) increased, we detected the phase transitions among the orthorhombic, cubic, and monoclinic phase driven by the compositional changes, as well as accompanied with an order-disorder-order transformation. Besides, the smooth orthorhombic-cubic phase transition interfaces were observed in the electron diffraction images for the sample with the low dopant concentration (x=0.2), and the reconstructed superlattices based on the orthorhombic or the cubic structure were both observed nearby the orthorhombic-cubic phase transition interface. The change of Q×f values showed a considerable increase with the emergence of the superlattices, and the enhancement of the Q×f values was related to the very small lattice vibrational anharmonicity in the structures that contain the reconstructed superlattices. Typically, when sintered at 1250 ℃ for 4 h, the ultra-low dielectric loss was achieved in the x=0.2 sample with the properties of εr=16.1, Q×f=128,600 GHz (f=9.2 GHz) and τf=-30.4 ppm/℃, and the temperature stable properties were obtained in the x=0.9 sample with εr=20.4, Q×f=90,300 GHz (f=7.9 GHz), and τf=2.9 ppm/℃. © 2020, The Authors. In the study of HfO2-based resistive random access memory (RRAM), the prevailing mechanism of conducting filaments (CFs) is thought to primarily occur at grain boundaries (GBs). The current experimental study on the impact of oxygen vacancies (VOs) behavior at GBs on devices has limitations. Thus, this research utilized first principles calculations to delve into the structural modifications, energetics, density of states (DOS), and partial charge densities of VO configurations at GBs. The optimized structure analysis demonstrates that VOs exhibit an attraction towards neighboring oxygen atoms. Calculations of formation energies suggest that VOs are more likely to occur at GBs rather than in the bulk phase. The DOS and charge densities indicate that the GB significantly reduces the band gap. Furthermore, VO configurations lead to three distinct combinations of defect states, each corresponding to connected or localized charge densities. The VO12 and VO45 configurations enhance conductivity by forming charge channels, indicating that they may be the origin of the CFs at GBs. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mapping the distribution of tension across paxillin upon shear stress with FRET-based biosensor

Paxillin communicates with multiple signalling molecules in focal adhesions (FAs) and participates in the intracellular force transmission upon shear stress. Thus, paxillin is likely to contribute to establishing the shear stress induced-cell polarity. However, it is still unclear whether the tension across FAs proteins can direct the polarity establishments by providing spatial features, due to a lack of efficient manners. This work proposes a visualization approach containing a DNA-encoded biosensor and fluorescent image processing algorithm to collect the spatiotemporal features of tension across paxillin. The results indicate that the tension across paxillin shows polarity between the upstream and downstream zones of the cell along the direction of shear stress, which was mediated by the membrane fluidity and integrity of the cytoskeleton. It demonstrates that the spatial information from the upper surface of cells upon shear stress can be transmitted to the interior of FAs on the basal layer by the architecture consisting of plasma membrane and cytoskeleton. Paxillin is a potential participant in activating cell polarity by providing a spatial mechanical guide to related signaling molecules upon shear stress. • Tension across paxillin polarized upon shear stress depending on the cytoskeleton and membrane fluidity.

SRAM-based Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is vulnerable to the serious radiation effects represented by Single Event Upset (SEU) effect in space. Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) and configuration scrubbing are effective methods of FPGA radiation protection, but each has its own shortcomings: TMR structure can't correct errors, and scrub circuit, also called “scrubber”, is sensitive to radiation. In response to the problem, this paper proposes a Real-time Redundant Scrubbing (RRS) system. Based on the traditional configuration scrubbing, TMR structure is applied to the scrubber. And the error indicator is added to the traditional TMR structure. When the scrubber has errors due to SEU, the scrubber will be scrubbed in real-time to prevent error accumulation. In addition, the floorplan of the three redundant logic is distributed to avoid the influence of a SEU on multiple redundant logic at the same time. In this paper, the anti-radiation capability of the proposed RRS system is evaluated by random fault injection. The test results show that the anti-radiation capability of the RRS system is more than 2 times higher than that of traditional configuration scrubbing system.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is the standard treatment for breast cancer patients. Patients achieving complete pathological response (pCR) after NAC usually have a good prognosis. However, automatic pCR prediction has been a challenging problem due to lacking well annotations in 3D MRI. Thus far, unifying different annotation information to predict the tumor’s early response to NAC has not been systematically addressed. This paper proposes a weakly and semi-supervised joint learning method that integrates attentional features from multi-parametric MRI with radiomic features for predicting pCR to NAC in breast cancer patients. The attention-based multi-instance learning (MIL) is first developed to generate informative MRI bag-level features and mine key instances. The mean-teacher framework is then employed to segment tumor regions in a semi-supervised setting for extracting radiomic features. We perform experiments on 442 patients’ data and show that our method achieves an AUC value of 0.85 in pCR prediction, which is superior to comparative methods. It is also shown that learning from multi-parametric MRI outperforms that of single-parameter MRI in pCR prediction.

This study presents a novel microwave humidity sensor that utilizes a complementary interdigital capacitor resonator (CIDCR), an advanced design derived from the traditional complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) structure. The CIDCR design enhances the sensor's performance by concentrating the electric field in a more compact region, leading to improved sensitivity and miniaturization. The sensor is coated with a composite film of chitosan (CS) and polyacrylamide-glycerol (PAMG), combining the high moisture sensitivity of PAMG with the stability of CS. The CIDCR-based sensor demonstrates superior performance, including high sensitivity, a broad detection range, rapid response/recovery times, and excellent long-term stability. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further elucidate the moisture-sensitive mechanisms at the molecular level, highlighting the role of hydrogen bonding in the composite film. Application tests confirm the sensor's potential for use in respiratory monitoring, non-contact sensing, and health monitoring, showcasing the advantages of the CIDCR structure in achieving enhanced humidity sensing capabilities. © 2024, The Authors. Protic ionic liquids (PILs) have emerged as innovative solvents with significant potential for CO2 capture and transformation, presenting a sustainable alternative to conventional methods which often involve energy-intensive processes or environmentally detrimental chemicals. Herein, a novel strategy for CO2 capture and conversion at mild conditions using non-stoichiometric protic ionic liquids (NPILs) was demonstrated for the first time. These NPILs, employed as sorbents, solvents, and catalysts, were composed of imidazole (Im) and 1,8-diazabicyclo [5.4.0] undec-7-ene (DBU) in various ratios. Correlations between the mole ratio of DBU/Im and physicochemical properties such as viscosity, conductivity, thermal stability, and the distribution of neutral and ionic species were systematically investigated. Effects of the absorption temperature and CO2 partial pressure on the absorption capacity were also studied. Different absorption mechanisms, including carbonate and carbamate pathways, were analyzed using FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy. Moreover, the fixed CO2 could be catalytically converted to quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones under exceptionally mild reaction conditions (1atm, 50 °C, metal-free process). A plausible reaction mechanism involving simultaneous CO2 activation and substrate activation for the transformation of CO2 into quinazoline-2,4(1H,3H)-diones was verified through NMR spectra. It is believed that the new insights into the CO2 mechanism will facilitate the rationaldesign of functional ionic liquids for CO2 capture, utilization, and storage in the future. © 2024, The Authors. In the field of brain science, data sharing across servers is becoming increasingly challenging due to issues such as industry competition, privacy security, and administrative procedure policies and regulations. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop new methods for data analysis and processing that enable scientific collaboration without data sharing. In view of this, this study proposes to study and develop a series of efficient non-negative coupled tensor decomposition algorithm frameworks based on federated learning called FCNCP for the EEG data arranged on different servers. It combining the good discriminative performance of tensor decomposition in high-dimensional data representation and decomposition, the advantages of coupled tensor decomposition in cross-sample tensor data analysis, and the features of federated learning for joint modelling in distributed servers. The algorithm utilises federation learning to establish coupling constraints for data distributed across different servers. In the experiments, firstly, simulation experiments are carried out using simulated data, and stable and consistent decomposition results are obtained, which verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms in this study. Then the FCNCP algorithm was utilised to decompose the fifth-order event-related potential (ERP) tensor data collected by applying proprioceptive stimuli on the left and right hands. It was found that contralateral stimulation induced more symmetrical components in the activation areas of the left and right hemispheres. The conclusions drawn are consistent with the interpretations of related studies in cognitive neuroscience, demonstrating that the method can efficiently process higher-order EEG data and that some key hidden information can be preserved. In this work, we demonstrate a Hydrogen-terminated (H-terminated) diamond FET with CeB6/Al2O3 materials. The CeB6 and Al2O3 film have been deposited by electron beam evaporation and atomic layer deposition technique. The leakage current density of the device is -1.5×10-7 mA/mm at gate voltage of -15 V. The device demonstrates a p-type normally-on characteristics, whose maximum drain-source current density, threshold voltage, on/off ratio, saturation carrier mobility and carrier density are of -90.6 mA/mm, 8.9 V, 108, 259.7 cm2/V·s and 2.09×1013 cm-2, respectively. This work may provide a promising strategy for the development and application of H-terminated diamond FETs significantly. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
