Ridgeless regression has garnered attention among researchers, particularly in light of the "Benign Overfitting" phenomenon, where models interpolating noisy samples demonstrate robust generalization. However, kernel ridgeless regression does not always perform well due to the lack of flexibility. This paper enhances kernel ridgeless regression with Locally-Adaptive-Bandwidths (LAB) RBF kernels, incorporating kernel learning techniques to improve performance in both experiments and theory. For the first time, we demonstrate that functions learned from LAB RBF kernels belong to an integral space of Reproducible Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHSs). Despite the absence of explicit regularization in the proposed model, its optimization is equivalent to solving an 0-regularized problem in the integral space of RKHSs, elucidating the origin of its generalization ability. In addressing the issue of localizing near-field source signals in the presence of impulse noise, this manuscript introduces a novel de-impact function designed for preprocessing received signals to alleviate the interference caused by impulse noise. Simulation experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed de-impact function in effectively suppressing impulse noise. Furthermore, to augment estimation precision, a novel algorithm for near-field source localization is proposed. Building upon the framework of correlation entropy theory, a new correntropy covariance matrix is formulated to replace the original signal covariance matrix for signal processing. Through a succession of low-bias approximations between near-field and far-field scenarios, the algorithm converts the original 2-D search into 1-D operations. Additionally, the conventional spectral peak search is replaced by polynomial solving to further mitigate the computational complexity of the algorithm.

In this paper, a planar inverted F antenna is designed for indoor distributed micro-base station of 5G communication. The overall size of the antenna is 16 mm × 15.3 mm × 10 mm, and the antenna works in the 3.5 - 3.6 GHz, which band number named n78. The antenna has the advantages of miniaturization, easy machining and convenient installation. The simulation results of ANSYS HFSS 2020 shows that in the working bandwidth range, when the central frequency of the designed antenna is 3.55 GHz, the S11 is -23.6 dB, and the VSWR is 1.1, which meets the requirements of impedance matching. In terms of directivity, the antenna coverage also meets the requirements of 5G micro-base station. © 2021 IEEE.

We construct a ternary [49,25,7] code from the row span of a Jacobsthal matrix. It is equivalent to a Generalized Quadratic Residue (GQR) code in the sense of van Lint and MacWilliams (1978). These codes are the abelian generalizations of the quadratic residue (QR) codes which are cyclic. The union of the [50,25,8] extension of the said code and its dual supports a 3-(50,14,1248) design. The automorphism group of the latter design is a double cover of the permutation part of the automorphism group of the [50,25,8] code, which is isomorphic to PΣL(2, 49). Other weights in this code, other GQR codes, and other QR codes yield other 3-designs by the same process. In this paper, we propose a novel convolutional neural network based on boundary-guided and region-aware (BGRA-Net) for breast tumor segmentation in ultrasound images. In particular, in the encoding stage, we propose a boundary-guided module (BGM) to guide the learning of boundary features in the decoding stage by explicitly strengthening the extracted boundary information. Meanwhile, in the decoding stage, we propose a region-aware module (RAM) to integrate different levels of detailed and semantic features to improve the comprehensive representation of tumor regional features. Besides, a scale-adaptive module (SAM) is further proposed to capture the characteristics of tumors with different sizes between the encoding and decoding stages. To evaluate the effectiveness of our BGRA-Net, we conduct extensive experiments on the UDIAT dataset and compare it with eight state-of-the-art methods. The experimental results show that our BGRA-Net outperforms the state-of-the-art methods and can achieve accurate segmentation of breast tumors with ambiguous boundaries. © 2021 IEEE.

3D object detection is an essential perception task in autonomous driving to understand the environments. The Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) representations have significantly improved the performance of 3D detectors with camera inputs on popular benchmarks. However, there still lacks a systematic understanding of the robustness of these vision-dependent BEV models, which is closely related to the safety of autonomous driving systems. In this paper, we evaluate the natural and adversarial robustness of various representative models under extensive settings, to fully understand their behaviors influenced by explicit BEV features compared with those without BEV. In addition to the classic settings, we propose a 3D consistent patch attack by applying adversarial patches in the 3D space to guarantee the spatiotemporal consistency, which is more realistic for the scenario of autonomous driving. With substantial experiments, we draw several findings: 1) BEV models tend to be more stable than previous methods under different natural conditions and common corruptions due to the expressive spatial representations;2) BEV models are more vulnerable to adversarial noises, mainly caused by the redundant BEV features;3) Camera-LiDARfusion models have superior performance under different settings with multi-modal inputs, but BEV fusion model is still vulnerable to adversarial noises of both point cloud and image. These findings alert the safety issue in the applications of BEV detectors and could facilitate the development of more robust models. © 2023 IEEE.

Deep learning can significantly enhance student behavior detection in classrooms. However, challenges such as small target recognition, blurry data, occlusion, and multi-scale detection persist. To address these, we propose YOLOv9-SPE, an improved model based on YOLOv9, incorporating Space-to-Depth Convolution (SPD-Conv), Partial Convolution (PConv), and an Efficient Multi-Scale Attention (EMA) Module. SPD-Conv enhances small target recognition and improves feature extraction for blurry data, while PConv, adapted from FasterNet, addresses occlusion issues. EMA is integrated to handle multi-scale targets in classroom student behavior detection. Experimental results on a student behavior dataset show that YOLOv9-SPE achieves a 2.1% improvement in mean average precision over the original YOLOv9. These enhancements provide a more accurate and efficient method for monitoring and analyzing student behavior in educational settings. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In terminal cooperative communication, relay assisted communication with buffer has significant advantages in improving system throughput, signal-to-noise ratio, and reducing system outage probability. The existing relay methods with buffer are all fixed buffer method with a fixed size of the buffer and only considering relay wholehearted cooperation and forwarding, that is, all buffer of the relay assists communication. However, when the forwarding task is small and there is a large idle in forwarding buffer, the buffer area cannot be fully utilized. When the forwarding task is large and forwarding buffer is busy, packet loss may occur in the forwarding task. In order to improve the usage efficiency of relay buffer and reduce packet loss, this paper proposes a relay buffer prediction method based on the long short-term memory network to predict the amount of data that the relay needs to forward. According to the prediction, the size of the relay buffer is divided, so that the buffer can be dynamically adjusted on demand. Simulation results show that, compared with the fixed buffer method, the relay buffer prediction method has a better buffer usage efficiency and a lower packet loss rate.

Spatial information can help improve source separation performance. Numerous spatially informed source extraction methods based on the independent vector analysis (IVA) have been developed, which can achieve reasonably good performance in non- or weakly reverberant environments. However, the performance of those methods degrades quickly as the reverberation increases. The underlying reason is that those methods are derived based on the multiplicative transfer function model with a rank-1 assumption, which does not hold true if reverberation is strong. To circumvent this issue, this paper proposes to use the convolutive transfer function (CTF) model to improve the source extraction performance and develop a spatially informed IVA algorithm. Simulations demonstrate the efficacy of the developed method even in highly reverberant environments.

The detection and characterization of human veins using infrared (IR) image processing have gained significant attention due to its potential applications in biometric identification, medical diagnostics, and vein-based authentication systems. This paper presents a low-cost approach for automatic detection and characterization of human veins from IR images. The proposed method uses image processing techniques including segmentation, feature extraction, and, pattern recognition algorithms. Initially, the IR images are preprocessed to enhance vein structures and reduce noise. Subsequently, a CLAHE algorithm is employed to extract vein regions based on their unique IR absorption properties. Features such as vein thickness, orientation, and branching patterns are extracted using mathematical morphology and directional filters. Finally, a classification framework is implemented to categorize veins and distinguish them from surrounding tissues or artifacts. A setup based on Raspberry Pi was used. Experimental results of IR images demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach in accurately detecting and characterizing human. The developed system shows promising for integration into applications requiring reliable and secure identification based on vein patterns. Our work provides an effective and low-cost solution for nursing staff in low and middle-income countries to perform a safe and accurate venipuncture.
