It is well known that the inverse design of terahertz (THz) multi-resonant graphene metasurfaces by using traditional deep neural networks (DNNs) has limited generalization ability. In this paper, we propose improved Transformer and conditional generative adversarial neural networks (CGAN) for the inverse design of graphene metasurfaces based upon THz multi-resonant absorption spectra. The improved Transformer can obtain higher accuracy and generalization performance in the StoV (Spectrum to Vector) design compared to traditional multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks, while the StoI (Spectrum to Image) design achieved through CGAN can provide more comprehensive information and higher accuracy than the StoV design obtained by MLP. Moreover, the improved CGAN can achieve the inverse design of graphene metasurface images directly from the desired multi-resonant absorption spectra. It is turned out that this work can finish facilitating the design process of artificial intelligence-generated metasurfaces (AIGM), and even provide a useful guide for developing complex THz metasurfaces based on 2D materials using generative neural networks. Traditional multislice iterative phase retrieval (MIPR) from snapshot two-dimensional measurements suffers from the two limitations of pre-defined support and iterative stagnation. To eliminate the requirements for priori knowledge of support masks, this paper proposes a multislice iterative phase retrieval algorithm based on compressed support detection and hybrid input-output algorithm (CSD-MIPR-HIO). The CSD-MIPR-HIO algorithm firstly uses compressed support detection to adaptively detect the support masks of each plane from single 2D diffraction intensity, and then uses a hybrid input-output (HIO) iterative algorithm for MIPR. The proposed method breaks the limitations of traditional MIPR algorithms on priori knowledge of support masks and achieve high-quality reconstruction in noisy environments. Numerical and optical experiments confirm the feasibility, superiority, and robustness of our proposed CSD-MIPR-HIO method. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Surface electromyography (sEMG) is widely utilized in rehabilitation therapy. However, existing gesture recognition methods predominantly concentrate on rigid static gestures, overlooking the importance of dynamic switching in practical tasks and the associated dynamic features for natural hand control. This neglect limits the consideration of hand gesture dexterity and diversity. In response, this work proposes a novel paradigm for hand gesture recognition, in which the switching state between two gestures is treated equally as a static pattern for downstream feature extraction and classification. A 3-dimensional self-organizing mapping neural network is investigated to fully characterize the high-dimensional sEMG signals. Due to the sequential feature of hand gesture variation, the prior switching probability is further applied to reduce ambiguity and computational consumption. The proposed paradigm and algorithm are tested and verified through five-fold cross-validation with multiple subjects. The experimental results show that the average accuracy of the 3D self-organizing mapping method is 78.74% while considering switching states, which is at least 6.97% higher than some traditional learning-based algorithms: long short-term memory and wavelet neural network. This work investigates the fault-tolerant control scheme for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy semi-Markov jump systems with actuator faults. The hidden semi-Markov model is employed to describe the asynchronous phenomenon between the controller and plant. Based on Lyapunov theory, the fault tolerant controller depending on observable mode is presented to make sure that the semi-Markov jump systems is stochastically stable and satisfies the $H_{\infty}$ performance. A simulation example via a single-link robot is employed to prove the correctness of the studied approach.

Robust DOA Estimation Based on Dual Lawson Norm for RIS-Aided Wireless Communication Systems

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) can actively perform beamforming and have become a crucial enabler for wireless systems in the future. The direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimates of RIS received signals can help design the reflection control matrix and improve communication quality. In this paper, we design a RIS-assisted system and propose a robust Lawson norm-based multiple-signal-classification (LN-MUSIC) DOA estimation algorithm for impulsive noise environments, which is divided into two parts: first, the non-convex Lawson norm is used as the error criterion along with a regularization constraint to formulate the optimization problem. Then, a Bregman distance based alternating-direction-method-of-multipliers (ADMM) is used to solve the problem and recover the desired signal. The second part is to use the multiple-signal-classification (MUSIC) to find out the DOAs of targets based on their sparsity in the spatial domain. In addition, we also propose a RIS control matrix optimization strategy that requires no channel state information (CSI), which effectively enhances the desired signals and improves the performance of the LN-MUSIC algorithm. A Cramér–Rao-lower-bound (CRLB) of the proposed DOA estimation algorithm is presented and verifies its feasibility. Simulated results show that the proposed robust DOA estimate algorithm based on the Lawson norm can effectively suppress the impact of large outliers caused by impulsive noise on the estimation results, outperforming existing *** Codes - Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Capacitive Flexible Three-Axis Force Tactile Sensor Based on Porous Composite Dielectric Layer for Dexterous Robotic Manipulation

Flexible tactile sensors that can detect both normal and tangential forces with good flexibility, high sensitivity, wide detection range and rapid dynamic response are imminently needed for electronic skin (e-skin). Thus, we innovatively demonstrated a flexible capacitive three-axis tactile sensor with satisfactory flexibility, high sensitivity (0.693 N -1 at 0-5 N and 0.483 N -1 at 5-14 N for normal force, as well as 0.551 N -1 at 0-2 N and 0.481 N -1 at 2-6 N for tangential force), fast response time (30 ms) and a low hysteresis (6.8%), which was fabricated by combining advanced sensor structure with porous composite dielectric layer in a simple and low-cost three-dimensional (3D) printing method and layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly method. The working principle and sensing characteristics of the sensor were elaborated by establishing the theoretical mechanism, and further simulation verification was carried out by the finite element modeling (FEM). Our sensor was employed in soft manipulator grasping and gamepad rotation, suggestive of the application potential of the three-axis force tactile sensor as flexible e-skin in the field of tactile sensing. Our work may pave a way to softness haptic perception strategy, which could be widely utilized in e-skin, soft robot, dexterous robotic manipulation, and intelligent prosthesis. © 2022, The Authors. Super-Broadband Rectifier With Wide-band Resistance Compression Network and Harmonic Cycling for RF-Harvesting

In this paper, a super-broadband (SBB) rectifier using a wideband resistance compression network (WRCN) and harmonic cycling is proposed, simulated, fabricated, measured and analyzed in detail for the harvesting of ambient Radio frequency (RF) energy. Meanwhile, impedance compression and matching are achieved to implement the SBB using WRCN and impedance operation networks. Additionally, harmonic cycling structure and bending technology are employed to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) and reduce the size, respectively. For demonstration, a prototype of the proposed rectifier is fabricated and measured. The measured results are in good accordance with the simulated ones, indicating that the rectifier can provide high efficiency and ultra-broadband rectification characteristics. A PCE over 50% is realized at 3.5 GHz with an input power range of 6–24 dBm, and a PCE of 75% is obtained at an input power of 18 dBm. The PCE is greater than 50% at 17 dBm with an input frequency of 2.7–4.6 GHz. This work can find significant applications in the development of RF-harvesting. © 2022, CC BY.

Unified Domain Adaptive Semantic Segmentation

Unsupervised Domain Adaptive Semantic Segmentation (UDA-SS) aims to transfer the supervision from a labeled source domain to an unlabeled and shifted target domain. The majority of existing UDA-SS works typically consider images whilst recent attempts have extended further to tackle videos by modeling the temporal dimension. Although two lines of research share the major challenges – overcoming the underlying domain distribution shift, their studies are largely independent. It causes several issues: (1) The insights gained from each line of research remain fragmented, leading to a lack of holistic understanding of the problem and potential solutions. (2) Preventing the unification of methods and best practices across two scenarios (images and videos) will lead to redundant efforts and missed opportunities for cross-pollination of ideas. (3) Without a unified approach, the knowledge and advancements made in one scenario may not be effectively transferred to the other, leading to suboptimal performance and slower progress. Under this observation, we advocate unifying the study of UDA-SS across video and image scenarios, enabling a more comprehensive understanding, synergistic advancements, and efficient knowledge sharing. To that end, we explore the unified UDA-SS from a general domain augmentation perspective, serving as a unifying framework, enabling improved generalization, and potential for cross-pollination, ultimately contributing to the practical impact and overall progress. Specifically, we propose a Quad-directional Mixup (QuadMix) method, characterized by tackling intra-domain discontinuity, fragmented gap bridging, and feature inconsistencies through four-directional paths designed for intra- and inter-domain mixing within an explicit feature space. To deal with temporal shifts within videos, we incorporate optical flow-guided feature aggregation across spatial and temporal dimensions for fine-grained domain alignment, which is extendable to image scenarios
