The cross-task gap presents a significant challenge for multimodal models because of the differences in input-output workflows. For instance, multimodal pre-trained transformers may encounter uni-modal data during testing. To mitigate the gap, this paper introduces a Transformer in Multimodal Sentiment analysis under Missing Modalities (TMMM) aims to perform well using missing-modal data during testing. TMMM uses a missing multimodal training approach to prevent accuracy degradation in testing. At the same time, a new network architecture allows the model to reconstruct missing modalities during testing. Classification token fusion and Mixture-of-Experts structures further enhance the model’s performance. A pre-training method utilizing contrastive learning, which can construct negative samples with positive samples, is proposed to overcome insufficient labeled data. Our experiments demonstrated the effectiveness of TMMM on two datasets with no modalities missing, i.e., it consistently achieved the highest classification accuracy and Macro-F1, which outperformed the best state-of-the-art baseline on each dataset by about 2% and 2.5%. Additionally, TMMM usually performs better than other baselines on datasets with missing modalities during testing.

This article proposes a multi-agent deep reinforce-ment learning algorithm to control a fleet of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) that encircle and capture sea targets. First, a simulation environment for USVs is established based on a dynamic model;two-dimensional control variables are used to control movements in three directions. Second, the multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG) algorithm is employed to achieve intelligent control of the USVs, using a reward function based on certain prior knowledge. Finally, centralized training and decentralized execution are used to complete the offline learning of multiple agents, and continuous action decisions are made based on the observations of the USV sensors. Simulations demonstrate that the method can capture stationary moving sea targets with any number of multi-agents under disturbances, and exhibits strong robustness and practicality. © 2023 IEEE.

This study introduces an innovative approach for gesture recognition in smart wearable devices using a deep domain adaptation model, focusing on the challenges posed by heterogeneous user environments and the need for precise, adaptable, and personalized gesture recognition systems. Traditional methods based on machine learning and deep learning techniques, while effective, struggle with the variance in data distribution among different users, leading to accuracy challenges. To address this,the study proposes the Domain Kernel-Alignment Adaptation Network(DKAN) model, utilizing a new Kernel-Aligned Multi-kernel Maximum Mean Discrepancy(KAMMD) method within deep networks. By calculating kernel alignments between source and target domains and adjusting weights of Gaussian kernels accordingly, DKAN emphasizes features conducive to transfer learning, enabling more accurate cross-user gesture recognition. The model achieves a significant average accuracy of 97.3% across 21 gestures, highlighting its potential in practical applications. This advancement addresses challenges in traditional gesture recognition methods and sets a new direction for future research in smart wearable technology.

Electroencephalogram (EEG)-based seizure sub-type classification enhances clinical diagnosis efficiency. Source-free semi-supervised domain adaptation (SF-SSDA), which transfers a pre-trained model to a new dataset with no source data and limited labeled target data, can be used for privacy-preserving seizure subtype classification. This paper considers two challenges in SF-SSDA for EEG-based seizure subtype classification: 1) How to effectively fuse both raw EEG data and expert knowledge in classifier design? 2) How to align the source and target domain distributions for SF-SSDA? We propose a Knowledge-Data Fusion based SF-SSDA approach, KDF-MutuaISHOT, for EEG-based seizure subtype classification. In source model training, KDF uses Jensen-Shannon Diver-gence to facilitate mutual learning between a feature-driven Decision Tree-based model and a data-driven Transformer-based model. To adapt KDF to a new target dataset, an SF-SSDA algorithm, MutualSHOT, is developed, which features a consistency-based pseudo-label selection strategy. Experiments on the public TUSZ and CHSZ datasets demonstrated that KDF-MutualSHOT outperformed other supervised and source-free domain adaptation approaches in cross-subject seizure subtype classification.

Despite diffusion models having shown powerful abilities to generate photorealistic images, generating videos that are realistic and diverse still remains in its infancy. One of the key reasons is that current methods intertwine spatial content and temporal dynamics together, leading to a notably increased complexity of text-to-video generation (T2V). In this work, we propose HiGen, a diffusion model-based method that improves performance by decoupling the spatial and temporal factors of videos from two perspectives, i.e., structure level and content level. At the structure level, we decompose the T2V task into two steps, including spatial reasoning and temporal reasoning, using a unified denoiser. Specifically, we generate spatially coherent priors using text during spatial reasoning and then generate temporally coherent motions from these priors during temporal reasoning. At the content level, we extract two subtle cues from the content of the input video that can express motion and appearance changes, respectively. These two cues then guide the model's training for generating videos, enabling flexible content variations and enhancing temporal stability. Through the decoupled paradigm, HiGen can effectively reduce the complexity of this task and generate realistic videos with semantics accuracy and motion stability. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of HiGen over the state-of-the-art T2V methods. We have released our source code and models.

Many existing anomaly detection methods assume the availability of a large-scale normal dataset. But for many applications, limited by resources, removing all anomalous samples from a large unlabeled dataset is unrealistic, resulting in contaminated datasets. To detect anomalies accurately under such scenarios, from the probabilistic perspective, the key question becomes how to learn the normal-data distribution from a contaminated dataset. To this end, we propose to collect two additional small datasets that are comprised of partially-observed normal and anomaly samples, and then use them to help learn the distribution under an adversarial learning scheme. We prove that under some mild conditions, the proposed method is able to learn the correct normal-data distribution. Then, we consider the overfitting issue caused by the small size of the two additional datasets, and a correctness-guaranteed flipping mechanism is further developed to alleviate it. Theoretical results under incomplete observed anomaly types are also presented. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms representative baselines when detecting anomalies under contaminated datasets. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

The multi-stack fuel cell system (MFCS) is an important basis for the application of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology to large-scale power generation systems. MFCS can provide higher power, longer lifetime and better reliability. Different from the single-stack fuel cell system (SFCS), there may be some inconsistencies among the stacks in the MFCS. If the inconsistencies are ignored, they will significantly affect the lifetime of the MFCS. This study focuses on the lifetime extension of multi-stack SOFC power generation systems with inconsistent stacks. Since the multi-stack system of SOFC generally cannot control the flow rate of each stack respectively, it brings a difficulty to the control of the MFCS with inconsistencies among the stacks. In order to overcome this difficulty, this paper built a multi-stack SOFC system model, which can characterize the degradation and inconsistencies among SOFC stacks. And then designed a power distribution strategy based on fuzzy control to extend the lifetime of the MFCS. The strategy was verified by simulations. The simulation results show that the strategy can effectively control the inconsistencies among the stacks and significantly extend the lifetime of the MFCS. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

DNA has been used to construct a variety of nanoscale thermometers due to its unique thermodynamic properties. It has proven to be one of the most promising, yet challenging aspects of DNA-based thermometers, to obtain significant signal changes when the temperature changes slightly. Here, we propose a strategy to construct nanoscale thermometers with sensitive temperature responses based on DNA triplex. The thermometers consist of a CT-rich DNA strand and stabilizing strands, whose conformations vary with temperature. By adjusting the sequence design or introducing mismatch bases in stabilizing strands, the temperature response interval of the thermometer can be reduced to 7 ∘C, which lead to higher sensitivity compared to the interval of 12–15 ∘C for conventional designs. The temperature responses of the thermometer are characterized by fluorescence experiments. The fluorescence kinetics experiments demonstrate the good repeatability. The design of the nanothermometer will be helpful for constructing advanced nanosystem with sensitive temperature responses as well as long service times. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Structure-free containment control for uncertain underactuated multiple Euler-Lagrange systems

This article studies the problem of structure-free distributed containment control for uncertain underactuated multiple Euler-Lagrange systems(MELSs) considering disturbances by using a layered approach. First, the second layer is the virtual layer constructed artificially for hierarchical control. We move all virtual nodes to the convex hull formed by leaders in the first layer by implementing containment control algorithms on all virtual nodes. Then, the third layer is the following layer, and we propose an adaptive robust tracking controller to ensure that each follower in the third layer tracks the corresponding virtual node in the second layer. So far, the underactuated MELSs can achieve containment control. Furthermore,through the theoretical derivation, sufficient conditions are obtained to achieve the objective of structure-free containment control. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed stratified structure-free containment control method is verified by a simulation example.

Malicious falsification of medical data destroys the training process of the medical-aided diagnosis models and causes serious damage to Healthcare IoMT Systems. To solve this unsupervised problem, this paper finds a robust data filtering method for various data poisoning attacks. First, we adapt the federated learning framework to project all of the clients' data features into the public subspace domain, allowing unified feature mapping to be established while their data remains stored locally. Then we adopt the federated clustering to re-group their features to clarify the poisoned data. The federated clustering is based on the consistent association of data and its semantics. Finally, we do the data sanitization with a simple yet efficient strategy. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the accuracy and efficacy of the proposed defense method against data poisoning attacks. © 2023 IEEE.
