Locating and Sizing Charging Station in Multi-Period to Promote Electric Vehicles Adoption in Urban Areas

The layout of public fast charging stations often fails to meet the charging demand of electric vehicle (EV) users, resulting in charging anxiety. To address this issue and promote the widespread use of EVs in urban areas, this paper presents a multiperiod locating and sizing optimization model under dynamic demand. The model incorporates GPS trajectory extraction data to identify potential charging demand points and considers the mobile load characteristics of EVs for fusion modeling. A multiperiod change formula is proposed to reflect the interaction between public fast charging stations and EV market penetration, incorporating charging opportunity and waiting time satisfaction as measures of charging service quality. To solve the model, a heuristic algorithm combining genetic algorithm (GA) and k-medoids clustering algorithm is designed. We apply the model to an actual case of Shenzhen and find that increasing investment in charging infrastructure can boost EV market penetration in the later planning period. Moreover, the gap between charging opportunity and waiting time satisfaction tends to narrow as the planning progresses. Our findings highlight the importance of optimizing the location and size of public fast charging stations to improve the charging service quality and promote the adoption of EVs. © 2023, The Authors. Multimodal emotion recognition has great application scenarios in the field of human-computer interaction, and the main task lies in how to capture and handle the consistency and complementarity of multimodal signals. However, in numerous scenarios, multimodal fusion is significantly challenged by variances in the strengths and weaknesses of different modality signals in carrying emotional information. This paper aims to learn the essential information of strong modalities and inter-modality correlations thus achieving better emotion recognition. We propose an adaptive multimodal emotion recognition framework based on collaborative discriminative learning (AMCDL), a framework for emotion recognition that engages in collaborative learning and adjusts to the information-processing capabilities of various emotion recognition models. AMCDL calculates the inter-modality correlation using Canonical Correlation analysis (CCA) and uses it as an influencing factor to boost the multiplicative combination method to create a class loss function. When trained on several modalities, the class loss function can integrate complementary information to enable strong modal expression, enhancing emotion perception. On the benchmark dataset CMU-MOSI, AMCDL significantly improves classification accuracy when compared to the state-of-the-art models. The experiments showed the flexibility and generality of AMCDL by applying several emotion recognition models to it and producing better classification results than the original model.

To execute a variety of collaborative tasks, the cooperation for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with complicated interactions under dynamic environments is a challenging and critical issue. This paper studies the cooperation issue for UAVs under dynamic environments through an approach of game theory-reinforcement learning (GT-RL) approach, which combines the advantages of both game theory and reinforcement learning. First, to cope with the complicated interactions of UAVs, the cluster of UAVs is modeled as a public goods game with asymmetrical environmental feedback. Then, reinforcement learning is adopted to optimize decision-making of UAVs under unknown and dynamic environments through comparing the dynamic behaviors of UAVs, where a novel dynamics system offers a more comprehensive understanding on cooperative behavior among UAVs. Finally, the simulation results show that the GT-RL approach can effectively promote cooperation among UAVs in completing the collaborative tasks. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

A brain-computer interface (BCI) enables direct communication between the human brain and external devices. Electroencephalography (EEG) based BCIs are currently the most popular for able-bodied users. To increase user-friendliness, usually a small amount of user-specific EEG data are used for calibration, which may not be enough to develop a pure data-driven decoding model. To cope with this typical calibration data shortage challenge in EEG-based BCIs, this paper proposes a parameter-free channel reflection (CR) data augmentation approach that incorporates prior knowledge on the channel distributions of different BCI paradigms in data augmentation. Experiments on eight public EEG datasets across four different BCI paradigms (motor imagery, steady-state visual evoked potential, P300, and seizure classifications) using different decoding algorithms demonstrated that: 1) CR is effective, i.e., it can noticeably improve the classification accuracy;2) CR is robust, i.e., it consistently outperforms other data augmentation approaches in the literature;and, 3) CR is flexible, i.e., it can be combined with other data augmentation approaches to further increase the performance. We suggest that data augmentation approaches like CR should be an essential step in EEG-based BCIs. Our code is available online. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Intelligent industrial manufacturing heavily relies on structured knowledge. Named Entity Recognition (NER), an essential technique for extracting structured knowledge from text, has garnered significant research interest. However, current NER approaches face difficulties in handling multiple levels of entity nesting in knowledge extraction, especially within the manufacturing context. To address this issue, we present an Anchor Span-based NER (ASNER) approach for accurately and efficiently extracting manufacturing text knowledge. This method combines token and span classification. Initially, the head and tail features of the entity are extracted, with the corresponding anchor span of potential entities generated based on a boundary match neural network to localize the entities. Subsequently, token spatial contextual features are extracted using biaffine attention and convolutional neural networks, and classification categories are assigned to the anchor span-filtered entity features. Experimental studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ASNER approach. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mitosis detection is one of the fundamental tasks in computational pathology, which is extremely challenging due to the heterogeneity of mitotic cell. Most of the current studies solve the heterogeneity in the technical aspect by increasing the model complexity. However, lacking consideration of the biological knowledge and the complex model design may lead to the overfitting problem while limited the generalizability of the detection model. In this paper, we systematically study the morphological appearances in different mitotic phases as well as the ambiguous non-mitotic cells and identify that balancing the data and feature diversity can achieve better generalizability. Based on this observation, we propose a novel generalizable framework (MitDet) for mitosis detection. The data diversity is considered by the proposed diversity-guided sample balancing (DGSB). And the feature diversity is preserved by inter- and intra- class feature diversity-preserved module (InCDP). Stain enhancement (SE) module is introduced to enhance the domain-relevant diversity of both data and features simultaneously. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that our proposed model outperforms all the state-of-the-art (SOTA) approaches in several popular mitosis detection datasets in both internal and unseen test sets using point annotations only. Comprehensive ablation studies have also proven the effectiveness of the rethinking of data and feature diversity balancing. By analyzing the results quantitatively and qualitatively, we believe that our proposed model not only achieves SOTA performance but also might inspire the future studies in new perspectives. © 2024, The Authors. Infrared small target detection (ISTD) is challenging due to complex backgrounds, low signal-to-clutter ratios, and varying target sizes and shapes. Effective detection relies on capturing local contextual information at the appropriate scale. However, small-kernel CNNs have limited receptive fields, leading to false alarms, while transformer models, with global receptive fields, often treat small targets as noise, resulting in miss-detections. Hybrid models struggle to bridge the semantic gap between CNNs and transformers, causing high complexity. To address these challenges, we propose LCRNet, a novel method that learns dynamic local context representations for ISTD. The model consists of three components: (1) C2FBlock, inspired by PDE solvers, for efficient small target information capture;(2) DLC-Attention, a large-kernel attention mechanism that dynamically builds context and reduces feature redundancy;and (3) HLKConv, a hierarchical convolution operator based on large-kernel decomposition that preserves sparsity and mitigates the drawbacks of dilated convolutions. Despite its simplicity, with only 1.65M parameters, LCRNet achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance. Experiments on multiple datasets, comparing LCRNet with 33 SOTA methods, demonstrate its superior performance and efficiency. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Blind video quality assessment (BVQA) plays an indispensable role in monitoring and improving the end-users’ viewing experience in various real-world video-enabled media applications. As an experimental field, the improvements of BVQA models have been measured primarily on a few human-rated VQA datasets. Thus, it is crucial to gain a better understanding of existing VQA datasets in order to properly evaluate the current progress in BVQA. Towards this goal, we conduct a first-of-its-kind computational analysis of VQA datasets via designing minimalistic BVQA models. By minimalistic, we restrict our family of BVQA models to build only upon basic blocks: a video preprocessor (for aggressive spatiotemporal downsampling), a spatial quality analyzer, an optional temporal quality analyzer, and a quality regressor, all with the simplest possible instantiations. By comparing the quality prediction performance of different model variants on eight VQA datasets with realistic distortions, we find that nearly all datasets suffer from the easy dataset problem of varying severity, some of which even admit blind image quality assessment (BIQA) solutions. We additionally justify our claims by comparing our model generalization capabilities on these VQA datasets, and by ablating a dizzying set of BVQA design choices related to the basic building blocks. Our results cast doubt on the current progress in BVQA, and meanwhile shed light on good practices of constructing next-generation VQA datasets and models. Adversarial examples cause the deep neural network prediction error, which is a great threat to the deep neural network. How to generate more natural adversarial examples and improve the robustness of deep neural networks has received attention. In this paper, we propose an improved blackbox attack (IBBA) algorithm based on query and perturbation distribution. This algorithm only needs the top-l label of the attacked model to generate the adversarial examples. Based on the existing black-box attacks, we optimize the performance of the algorithm from two aspects: query distribution and perturbation distribution. In the aspect of query distribution, we adopt different strategies for nontargeted attack and targeted attack; in the aspect of perturbation distribution, we choose different low-frequency noise according to the difference between the targeted attack and nontargeted attack. The experimental results on imageNet show that the proposed algorithm is better than the existing algorithms in low query number, and the targeted attack is better in each specified query number.
