Cardio-cerebrovascular diseases are the leading causes of mortality worldwide, whose accurate blood vessel segmentation is significant for both scientific research and clinical usage. However, segmenting cardio-cerebrovascular structures from medical images is very challenging due to the presence of thin or blurred vascular shapes, imbalanced distribution of vessel and non-vessel pixels, and interference from imaging artifacts. These difficulties make manual or semi-manual segmentation methods highly time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to errors with inter-observer variability, where different experts may produce different segmentations from a variety of modalities. Consequently, there is a growing interest in developing automated algorithms. This paper provides an up-to-date survey of deep learning techniques, for cardio-cerebrovascular segmentation. It analyzes the research landscape, surveys recent approaches, and discusses challenges such as the scarcity of accurately annotated data and variability. This paper also illustrates the urgent needs for developing multi-modality label-efficient deep learning techniques. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first comprehensive survey of deep learning approaches that effectively segment vessels in both the heart and brain. It aims to advance automated segmentation techniques for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, benefiting researchers and healthcare professionals. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Depression can significantly impact many aspects of an individual’s life, including their personal and social functioning, academic and work performance, and overall quality of life. Many researchers within the field of affective computing are adopting deep learning technology to explore potential patterns related to the detection of depression. However, because of subjects’ privacy protection concerns, that data in this area is still scarce, presenting a challenge for the deep discriminative models used in detecting depression. To navigate these obstacles, a large-scale multimodal vlog dataset (LMVD), for depression recognition in the wild is built. In LMVD, which has 1823 samples with 214 hours of the 1475 participants captured from four multimedia platforms (Sina Weibo, Bilibili, Tiktok, and YouTube). A novel architecture termed MDDformer to learn the non-verbal behaviors of individuals is proposed. Extensive validations are performed on the LMVD dataset, demonstrating superior performance for depression detection. DNA-based data storage has been attracting significant attention due to its extremely high data storage density, low power consumption, and long duration compared to conventional data storage media. Despite the recent advancements in DNA data storage technology, significant challenges remain. In particular, various types of errors can occur during the processes of DNA synthesis, storage, and sequencing, including substitution errors, insertion errors, and deletion errors. Furthermore, the entire oligo may be lost. In this work, we report a DNA-based data storage architecture that incorporates efficient channel coding schemes, including different types of error-correcting codes (ECCs) and constrained codes, for both the inner coding and outer coding for the DNA data storage channel. We also carried out large scale experiments to validate our proposed DNA-based data storage architecture. Specifically, 1.61 and 1.69 MB data were encoded into 30,000 oligos each, with information densities of 1.731 and 1.815, respectively. It has been found that the stored information can be fully recovered without any error at average coverages of 4.5 and 6.0, respectively. This experiment achieved the highest net information density and lowest coverage among existing DNA-based data storage experiments (with standard DNA), with data recovery rates and coverage approaching theoretical optima. The advent of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has facilitated the acquisition of high-resolution data regarding cell heterogeneity across various tissues. A fundamental and critical step in the analysis of scRNA-seq data is cell type identification. An appropriate graph construction strategy can reflect the topological structure between cells and allows for detailed exploration of the relationships between cells and genes. Given the sparsity of scRNA-seq data and the pronounced noise generated by shallow sequencing, choosing an appropriate graph construction strategy has become a significant challenge. In this paper, we propose a single-cell clustering method, named Sc-PNNMF, based on structural perturbation of nonnegative matrix factorization. Sc-PNNMF employs a structural perturbation algorithm to optimize the gene expression matrix. The optimized matrix guides the matrix factorization process, effectively overcoming the impact of data sparsity and significant noise in gene expression data on the graph construction strategy. We compared the clustering abilities of Sc-PNNMF with five other methods on ten real datasets.

Patients with limb dysfunction have limited mobility,which prevents them from performing daily *** have developed an assistive robot system with an intuitive head free gaze *** system consists of multiple modules,including 3 D gaze estimation,head free coordinate transformation,intention recognition,and robot trajectory *** robotic assistive system obtains clues from the user’s gaze to decode their intentions and implement *** allows the user only needs to look at the objects to make the robot system reach,grasp,and bring them to the *** 3 D gaze estimation is evaluated with 5 subjects,showing an overall accuracy of 5.53±1.2 *** integrated system’s experimental results show that the success rate is 96% in the implementation of automatic trajectory planning,and the success rate is 92% in the implementation of fixation-based trajectory ***,the results and work required to improve the system are discussed.

Continual learning can incrementally absorb new concepts without interfering with previously learned knowledge. Motivated by the characteristics of neural networks, in which information is stored in weights on connections, we investigated how to design an Innately Forgetting-Free Network (IF2Net) for continual learning context. This study proposed a straightforward yet effective learning paradigm by ingeniously keeping the weights relative to each seen task untouched before and after learning a new task. We first presented the novel representation-level learning on task sequences with random weights. This technique refers to tweaking the drifted representations caused by randomization back to their separate task-optimal working states, but the involved weights are frozen and reused (opposite to well-known layer-wise updates of weights). Then, sequential decision-making without forgetting can be achieved by projecting the output weight updates into the parsimonious orthogonal space, making the adaptations not disturb old knowledge while maintaining model plasticity. IF2Net allows a single network to inherently learn unlimited mapping rules without telling task identities at test time by integrating the respective strengths of randomization and orthogonalization. This paper presents an improved deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm, namely Advanced Actor Critic (AAC), which is based on Actor Critic (AC) algorithm, to the video game Artificial intelligence (AI) training. The advantage distribution estimator, Normal Constraint (NC) function and exploration based on confidence are introduced to improve the AC algorithm, in order to achieve accurate value estimate, select continuous spatial action correctly, and explorate effectively. The aim is to improve the performance of conventional AC algorithm in a complex environment. A case study of video game StarCraft II mini-game AI training is employed. The results verify that the improved algorithm effectively improves the performance in terms of the convergence rate, maximum reward, average reward in every 100 episode, and time to reach a specific reward, etc. The analysis on how these modifications improve the performance is also given through interpretation of the feature layers in the mini-games. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

The development of modern medical devices and information technology has led to a rapid growth in the amount of data available for health protection information, with the concept of medical big data emerging globally, along with significant advances in cancer care relying on data-driven approaches. However, outstanding issues such as fragmented data governance, low-quality data specification, and data lock-in still make sharing challenging. Big data technology provides solutions for managing massive heterogeneous data while combining artificial intelligence (AI) techniques such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) to better mine the intrinsic connections between data. This paper surveys and organizes recent articles on big data technology and its applications in cancer, dividing them into three different types to outline their primary content and summarize their critical role in assisting cancer care. It then examines the latest research directions in big data technology in cancer and evaluates the current state of development of each type of application. Finally, current challenges and opportunities are discussed, and recommendations are made for the further integration of big data technology into the medical industry in the future. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Memristor crossbar array (MCA) is a promising computing-in-memory architecture for accelerating vector-matrix multiplication (VMM). However, existing memristor-based circuits primarily perform forward computations without local learning capabilities. To address the issue, a memristor-based multilayer neural network (MNN) with edge learning is proposed, enabling error backpropagation and one-step weight update. In particular, the overall circuit design of a three-layer MNN is outlined, comprising three operational stages: forward computation, backpropagation, and weight update. Subsequently, the schematics of four adopted circuit blocks are detailed. By integrating the memory and weight update blocks with MCA, the proposed three-layer memristor-based MNN exhibits scalability and universality, allowing it to be extended to the deep neural network (DNN) architecture. Circuit simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, while offline-online co-simulations demonstrate its strength in compensating for variations and non-ideal characteristics of physical devices. Comparative results further highlight the advantages of the proposed scheme in realizing full-analog edge learning circuits and performing error backpropagation processes efficiently.
