Segmentation of rat heart section images and infarct area quantization are essential components of infarct size measurement in processing data from animal experiments on ischemic heart disease. Previously, the task of measuring the infarct size of rat heart sections was performed manually by experienced researchers, which was very costly and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a two-stage semi-supervised approach to solve the task of ischemic heart infarct size calculation in images of rat section images. The approach uses a semi-supervised semantic segmentation model and a semi-automated quantization algorithm to separate the differently stained regions of rat heart sections. We demonstrate the results of the approach on a rat heart section dataset, and experiments on this dataset emphasize the effectiveness of our approach compared to other methods.

Kinship verification is one of the interesting and critical problems in computer vision research, with significant progress in the past decades. Meanwhile, Vision Transformer (VIT) has recently achieved impressive success in many domains, including object detection, image recognition, and semantic segmentation, among others. Most of the previous work on kinship verification are based on convolutional or recurrent neural networks. Compared with the local processing of images like convolutions, transformers can effectively understand and process images globally. However, due to overuse, there are many Transformer layers of fully connected layers, and VIT speed is still an issue. Therefore, in this paper, inspired by the recent success of Transformer models in vision tasks, we propose a Transformer-based kinship verification for training and optimizing kinship verification models. We first train the basic vision transformer (VIT-B) with 12 transformer layers, then we reduce the transformer layers to 6 layers, namely VIT-S (Small Vit) and 4 layers, namely VIT-T (Tiny Vit), to make a tradeoff between optimization accuracy and efficiency. As the first attempt to apply Transformer to the kinship verification task, it provides a feasible strategy for kinship research topics and verifies the effectiveness of the method in terms of the accuracy of the experimental results.

Modeling Temporal Dependencies within the Target for Long-Term Time Series Forecasting

Long-term time series forecasting (LTSF) is a critical task across diverse domains. Despite significant advancements in LTSF research, we identify a performance bottleneck in existing LTSF methods caused by the inadequate modeling of Temporal Dependencies within the Target (TDT). To address this issue, we propose a novel and generic temporal modeling framework, Temporal Dependency Alignment (TDAlign), that equips existing LTSF methods with TDT learning capabilities. TDAlign introduces two key innovations: 1) a loss function that aligns the change values between adjacent time steps in the predictions with those in the target, ensuring consistency with variation patterns, and 2) an adaptive loss balancing strategy that seamlessly integrates the new loss function with existing LTSF methods without introducing additional learnable parameters. As a plug-and-play framework, TDAlign enhances existing methods with minimal computational overhead, featuring only linear time complexity and constant space complexity relative to the prediction length. Extensive experiments on six strong LTSF baselines across seven real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of TDAlign. On average, TDAlign reduces baseline prediction errors by 1.47% to 9.19% and change value errors by 4.57% to 15.78%, highlighting its substantial performance improvements. In practice, significant modality differences usually exist between visible and infrared images, which makes visible-infrared Person Re-Identification (VI-ReID) a challenging research task. Due to the existing influence of pose variation, background changes, and occlusion, there are often outlier samples within the set of images from the same person. These outlier samples can adversely affect the process of learning the cross-modal matching model. The existing VI-ReID methods mainly focus on learning cross-modal feature representation by using image-level discriminant constraints, i.e., the distance between the truly-matching cross-modal images should be smaller than that between wrong-matching cross-modal images. However, most of these methods ignore the adverse influence caused by outliers. To solve the above problems, we proposed a Point-level and Set-level Deep Representation Learning (PSDRL) approach for VI-ReID in this paper. By using the set-level constraint in the process of deep representation learning, the discrepancy between visible and infrared modalities can be decreased, and the adverse effect of outliers can be weakened. By employing the image-level constraint, the discriminability of the obtained deep feature representations can be improved. Extensive experiments are conducted on the publicly available cross-modal Person Re-Identification datasets, including SYSU-MM01 and RegDB. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

With the widespread application of digital assets and the rapid development of blockchain technology, achieving secure and efficient transactions between different blockchain networks has become an urgent challenge. Existing cross-chain methods impose limitations, e.g., hash lock technology exhibits low scalability, side-chain technology is overly complex, and notary schemes pose centralization risks. In order to address these issues, we propose a cross-chain transaction solution based on proxy re-signature technology. To tackle the centralization concerns, we employ proxy re-signature technology to decentralize the authority of notaries among transaction participants, minimizing the potential for centralization at a low cost. We further present an extended scheme that can guarantee more requirements such as higher transaction amount and shorter transaction time. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the signature technologies used in the proposed solution and provide a systematic proof of our approach’s security.

A Node-collaboration-informed Graph Convolutional Network for Precise Representation to Undirected Weighted Graphs

An undirected weighted graph (UWG) is frequently adopted to describe the interactions among a solo set of nodes from real applications, such as the user contact frequency from a social network services system. A graph convolutional network (GCN) is widely adopted to perform representation learning to a UWG for subsequent pattern analysis tasks such as clustering or missing data estimation. However, existing GCNs mostly neglects the latent collaborative information hidden in its connected node pairs. To address this issue, this study proposes to model the node collaborations via a symmetric latent factor analysis model, and then regards it as a node-collaboration module for supplementing the collaboration loss in a GCN. Based on this idea, a Node-collaboration-informed Graph Convolutional Network (NGCN) is proposed with three-fold ideas: a) Learning latent collaborative information from the interaction of node pairs via a node-collaboration module;b) Building the residual connection and weighted representation propagation to obtain high representation capacity;and c) Implementing the model optimization in an end-to-end fashion to achieve precise representation to the target UWG. Empirical studies on UWGs emerging from real applications demonstrate that owing to its efficient incorporation of node-collaborations, the proposed NGCN significantly outperforms state-of-the-art GCNs in addressing the task of missing weight estimation. Meanwhile, its good scalability ensures its compatibility with more advanced GCN extensions, which will be further investigated in our future studies. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Popular methods usually use a degradation model in a supervised way to learn a watermark removal model. However, it is true that reference images are difficult to obtain in the real world, as well as collected images by cameras suffer from noise. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose a perceptive self-supervised learning network for noisy image watermark removal (PSLNet) in this paper. PSLNet depends on a parallel network to remove noise and watermarks. The upper network uses task decomposition ideas to remove noise and watermarks in sequence. The lower network utilizes the degradation model idea to simultaneously remove noise and watermarks. Specifically, mentioned paired watermark images are obtained in a self-supervised way, and paired noisy images (i.e., noisy and reference images) are obtained in a supervised way. To enhance the clarity of obtained images, interacting two sub-networks and fusing obtained clean images are used to improve the effects of image watermark removal in terms of structural information and pixel enhancement. Taking into texture information account, a mixed loss uses obtained images and features to achieve a robust model of noisy image watermark removal. Comprehensive experiments show that our proposed method is very effective in comparison with popular convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for noisy image watermark removal. The proliferation of vehicles and the intricate layout of road systems have contributed to a significant rise in traffic accidents, posing a pressing concern globally. Despite the advancements facilitated by deep learning, several challenges persist in the domain of traffic accident prediction. Firstly, the sparsity of accident data in certain city regions presents a significant obstacle, particularly when attempting fine-grained predictions at a local level. Secondly, the intricate spatial-temporal relations inherent in traffic accident data pose a challenge for existing prediction models. In response to these formidable challenges, this paper presents GLST-TARP, a novel model for predicting traffic accident risk in urban environments by leveraging both global semantic and localized geographic spatial-temporal relations. Specifically, we construct multi-graphs to encode global static and dynamic spatial relations, incorporating attention mechanisms to adaptively focus on relevant information and temporal relations. Additionally, we employ channel-wise convolutional neural network blocks to extract localized geographic features and enhance predictive accuracy. The proposed model is trained using a Huber loss function tailored for regression tasks, relieving the impact of zero values during optimization. Experimental results demonstrate that GLST-TARP outperforms state-of-the-art methods in predicting traffic accident risks, showcasing its potential for enhancing urban safety and transportation management. © 2024, The Authors. Facial image based kinship verification aims to decide whether there exists kinship between the given facial images. In practice, the cross-generation differences will cause adverse effects on kinship verification, which limits the performance. Therefore, how to mine the implied similarity from facial images with large cross-generation divergence is an important problem in kinship verification, which has not yet been well studied. In view of this, we propose a Similarity Mining via Implicit matching pattern LEarning (SMILE) approach for kinship verification. Specifically, SMILE mainly consists of two modules, including a Semi-coupled Multi-pattern Similarity Learning (SMSL) module and a Cross-Generation Feature Normalization (CGFN) module. The SMSL module is designed to learn multiple semi-coupled matching patterns for mining the implicit facial similarity information from different perspectives. The CGFN module aims to reduce the divergence between facial images of parent and child. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods.

With the rapid development of social media platforms such as Weibo, WeChat, and other new media, as well as the rise of deepfake technologies, the identification and containment of fake information have posed significant challenges, becoming one of the key challenges faced by society and governmental institutions. Therefore, the development of intelligent and efficient methods for detecting fake news has become a top priority in combating misinformation. Addressing challenges in current fake news detection techniques, such as cross-lingual issues, data imbalance, and multimodal information fusion, this paper aims to propose a dual-stream fusion network model (DSF-MHSA) based on deep learning for detecting fake news across web pages, images, and text. The model combines the deep learning models ERNIE-M, AlexNet, ShuffleNet, and three multi-head self-attention mechanisms to extract and classify features from multilingual text and images. By utilizing two separate multi-head self-attention mechanisms to process extracted textual and image information, the model captures long-range dependencies among texts to better understand contextual information and captures global information among images to enhance object recognition and localization capabilities. Finally, a single multi-head self-attention mechanism is employed to integrate textual and image information to capture cross-modal correlations, thereby strengthening the model's understanding and identification capabilities of news content. This dual-stream fusion network architecture ensures the model's ability to detect multimodal news scenarios in both English and Chinese short texts and images. Experimental evaluations conducted on three publicly available datasets - Twitter, Weibo, and IKCEST-2023 dataset, which contains real online news data collected from domestic and international social media platforms - demonstrate superior performance of the proposed model in news detection tasks, achieving an accuracy rate
