Asymptotically Optimal Sequence Sets With Low/Zero Ambiguity Zone Properties

Sequences with low/zero ambiguity zone (LAZ/ZAZ) properties are useful in modern communication and radar systems operating over mobile environments. This paper first presents a new family of ZAZ sequence sets motivated by the "modulating" zero correlation zone (ZCZ) sequences which were first proposed by Popovic and Mauritz. We then introduce a second family of ZAZ sequence sets with comb-like spectrum, whereby the local Doppler resilience is guaranteed by their inherent spectral nulls in the frequency domain. Finally, LAZ sequence sets are obtained by exploiting their connection with a novel class of mapping functions. These proposed unimodular ZAZ and LAZ sequence sets are cyclically distinct and asymptotically optimal with respect to the existing theoretical bounds on ambiguity functions. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Gaining Technological Autonomy and Social-emotional Support: A Case Study of How and Why Chinese Older Adults Engage with a Semi-acquaintance Online Community

Older adults are often underserved and marginalized in technology engagement due to their reluctance and the barriers they face in adopting and engaging with mainstream technology. However, Pinxiaoquan, a social feature of an e-commerce platform in China, has gained a large number of older users. This work investigates how and why Chinese older adults use Pinxiaoquan, aiming to unveil the underlying logic and inspire technology-inclusive design for older adults. To this end, we conducted a mixed-methods qualitative study over two years, which included online observation, and semi-interview. We found that Pinxiaoquan’s success among Chinese older adults is mainly due to its ability to inspire technological autonomy and provide social-emotional support. Rather than simply lowering technical barriers or asking them to seek assistance outside the platform, Pinxiaoquan builds a semi-acquaintance online community based on location and social ties that allows older adults to realize technical support mutually. Pinxiaoquan also fulfills their social-emotional needs, such as free online expression, memory creation and preservation, relationship expansion and maintenance, and a sense of value. Our research contributes to the HCI community by highlighting the importance of improving older adults’ technology autonomy following their specific social and cultural background and social-emotional needs. This work also provides unique insights and implications for building inclusive technology for the growing aging population. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Fake Face Detection Based on Fusion of Spatial Texture and High-Frequency Noise

The rapid development of the Internet has led to the widespread dissemination of manipulated facial images, significantly impacting people's daily lives. With the continuous advancement of Deepfake technology, the generated counterfeit facial images have become increasingly challenging to distinguish. There is an urgent need for a more robust and convincing detection method. Current detection methods mainly operate in the spatial domain and transform the spatial domain into other domains for analysis. With the emergence of transformers, some researchers have also combined traditional convolutional networks with transformers for detection. This paper explores the artifacts left by Deepfakes in various domains and, based on this exploration, proposes a detection method that utilizes the steganalysis rich model to extract high-frequency noise to complement spatial features. We have designed two main modules to fully leverage the interaction between these two aspects based on traditional convolutional neural networks. The first is the multi-scale mixed feature attention module, which introduces artifacts from high-frequency noise into spatial textures, thereby enhancing the model's learning of spatial texture features. The second is the multi-scale channel attention module, which reduces the impact of background noise by weighting the features. Our proposed method was experimentally evaluated on mainstream datasets, and a significant amount of experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in detecting Deepfake forged faces, outperforming the majority of existing methods.

A dual-control reconfigurable intelligent metasurface (DC-RIMS) composed of 24× 22 symmetric cells in the 5G mid-band is proposed. The DC-RIMS of non-artificial-magnetic-conductor type provides a smaller phase resolution of 60° with 2 bits under normal incidence. Angular sensitivities of the RIMS under oblique incidence are investigated. Our results show that the reflection responses at elevation angles are more sensitive than the azimuth angles, whereas the maximum phase differences are differed from each polarization. The horizontal one increases to 220° whereas the vertical one reduces to 150° as compared with overlapped 180° under normal incidence. © 2023 IEEE.

A text dependent copy-paste plagiarism and text-rewriting plagiarism model

Plagiarism is common in English writing exams. Researchers classify plagiarism into copy-paste and text-rewriting plagiarism, but existing models need help with problems such as the single way of checking and unsatisfactory results. Aiming at the copy-paste problem in English writing plagiarism, this paper proposes a digital fingerprint model based on the N-Gram window jumping mechanism. The model incorporates a sliding window and an improved matching tool to solve the problems of excessive fingerprint density and low checking efficiency in text extraction. Meanwhile, the model adds a Fisher-Yates shuffle algorithm with a salt parameter to crack the hash collision in text matching. The experiments show that the model can detect copy-paste plagiarism in English composition. For text rewriting plagiarism, this paper designs a TextCNN-BiGRU-based model, which combines TextCNN and BiGRU so that the extracted text semantic information considers the text’s local and contextual features. The experiments show that the model improves the accuracy by 1.9 percentage points and the F1 value by 1.2 percentage points on the MRPC dataset compared with other models. © 2025 – IOS Press. The scene text retrieval system can search all the images containing the query text in the gallery based on the input query text and locate the position of the query text at the same time. The current state-of-the-art approach is to match query images and text instances based on visual information, which somewhat mitigates the heterogeneous differences between the two modalities and can support the zero-shot training approach. But there is no consideration of two branches of features interacting on information as a way to enhance the features. In this paper, we improve this method. First, we design a structure that enhances features using a shared-visual embedding transformer (S-VET). Text instance features and query input features are brought closer visually by a visual transformer with shared parameters and then spliced and fused with the original features to enrich the visual information of the two branch features. We then design a Multi-Scale Residual Channel Attention (MRCA) module to obtain features at different scales by using convolution kernels at multiple scales and then use channel attention to mine beneficial information from features at different scales.
