Reconfigurable intelligent Surface (RIS) is a revolutionary technology in modern wireless communication systems, since it can adjust the wireless communication environment with passive components. In this paper, we consider the system environment in the presence of Base Station (BS) interference and implement the estimation of the target Direction-of-Arrival (DOA). To improve the estimation performance, we propose a DOA estimation algorithm based on RIS. The proposed algorithm consists of an error term for the lorentzian bound function and a regular term for the atomic norm (termed as LBF-AN), which are implemented to eliminate system noise and signal interference, respectively. The simulation results show that the DOA estimation performance of the proposed algorithm is better than existing algorithms. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes and designs a microstrip antenna that can work in the B1 band for Beidou with a double-layer substrate, and realizes the circularly polarized radiation characteristics. The antenna consists of a ground plane, two substrates, and two metal patches. The first layer of the patch is a rectangular structure as well as the second layer of the patch is a T-shaped structure with two vertical branches which are to achieve circular polarization. This structure adopts a simple coaxial feeding method, with the probe passing through the second layer of the substrate to connect the ground plane and the T-shaped strip. The simulation optimization results using the HFSS 2021 show that the axial ratio (AR) beam width in both planes exceeds 160°, and the AR at the design frequency is 0.18 dB. The impedance bandwidth is 70 MHz, which can meet the requirements of Beidou's operation. © 2023 IEEE.

Amplified emission and lasing enabled by high-Q quasi-bound states in asymmetric dielectric metasurfaces via eigenfield perturbation

Symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum represent a distinct class of nonradiative modes in continuous media. By introducing asymmetric parameters into a symmetric metasurface, the inherent symmetry can be broken, transforming BICs—originally decoupled from external radiation channels—into high-Q quasi-BICs with controlled radiation capabilities. However, manufacturing constraints pose a significant challenge in fabricating nanostructures with ultra-small asymmetric parameters, thereby limiting the achievable Q-factor. In this work, we propose an asymmetric perforated metasurface structure that supports BICs. When the perforations are shifted along the x or y axis to a specific position, the linewidth vanishes, and simulations confirm the emergence of a BIC in the system, with a quality factor reaching up to 109. Furthermore, we demonstrate that selective eigenmode perturbation can effectively transform BICs into practical quasi-BICs. Notably, for the same structure, perturbing the weak-field region yields higher Q-factors, offering a flexible approach to optimizing performance. This approach enables precise Q-factor control and enhanced radiation properties. Furthermore, we design a laser cavity structure based on these quasi-BICs, achieving amplified emission and lasing with excellent agreement between simulations and theoretical predictions. These findings expand the BIC library and offer new methods for Q-factor manipulation, paving the way for high-performance optoelectronic devices such as nanolasers, biosensors, and nonlinear harmonic generators. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Angle measurement using the integrated amplitude of difference beam from an optical phased array

We propose an angle measurement method by comparing the integrated amplitude of the difference beam (AMCIAD) generated by an optical phase array (OPA), which can be used to improve the precision of angle measurements. The AMCIAD utilizes the beam-forming capability of an OPA to improve upon the traditional method of angle measurement by comparing amplitude (AMCA). In the experiment, an on-chip OPA is used to generate the difference beams and scan the object. An algorithm is developed to calculate the angular position of the object from the reflected light. The experimental results demonstrate that AMCIAD improves the accuracy of angle measurement by about four times compared to AMCA (0.13° of AMCIAD and 0.60° of AMCA). Angular accuracy equivalent to ∼4% of the beam width is demonstrated. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

Combining the spatial filtering (SF) technique with FDTD(2, q) method (2 and q denote the temporal differential order and spatial differential order, respectively), a novel SF-FDTD(2, q) method with more relaxed Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy (CFL) condition is proposed and used for solving 3D time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Then, the correctness of the SF-FDTD(2, q) method is validated by calculating eigenfrequencies of the 3D quantum well model. © 2023 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).

A microstrip line broadband directional coupler is designed based on microstrip line theory. The bandwidth of the coupler is extended by using a cascade of multiple coupled lines. The isolation of the directional coupler is greatly improved by covering the microstrip line with a dielectric layer [1] and by loading the branching compensation capacitor to compensate for the odd-even mode phase velocity difference. Simulation results of ANSYS HFSS 2019 show that the return loss (S11) is greater than 20 dB, the insertion loss (S21) is less than 1.7 dB, the coupling degree (S31) is about -6dB(±0.8dB), the isolation degree (S41) is greater than 23.4dB, and the minimum directionality is greater than 17dB during 700 MHz-3700 MHz. The physical size of coupler is 18 mm × 60mm, which meets the design requirements of 6dB coupler. © 2023 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).

Existing graph learning-based cognitive diagnosis (CD) methods have made relatively good results, but their student, exercise, and concept representations are learned and exchanged in an implicit unified graph, which makes the interaction-agnostic exercise and concept representations be learned poorly, failing to provide high robustness against noise in students' interactions. Besides, lower-order exercise latent representations obtained in shallow layers are not well explored when learning the student representation. To tackle the issues, this paper suggests a meta multigraph-assisted disentangled graph learning framework for CD (DisenGCD), which learns three types of representations on three disentangled graphs: student-exercise-concept interaction, exercise-concept relation, and concept dependency graphs, respectively. Specifically, the latter two graphs are first disentangled from the interaction graph. Then, the student representation is learned from the interaction graph by a devised meta multigraph learning module;multiple learnable propagation paths in this module enable current student latent representation to access lower-order exercise latent representations, which can lead to more effective nad robust student representations learned;the exercise and concept representations are learned on the relation and dependency graphs by graph attention modules. Finally, a novel diagnostic function is devised to handle three disentangled representations for prediction. Experiments show better performance and robustness of DisenGCD than state-of-the-art CD methods and demonstrate the effectiveness of the disentangled learning framework and meta multigraph module. This paper presents a parallel coupled line bandpass filter for X-band applications, which has low insertion loss, broadband and easy processing. By loading the CSRR (Complementary Split Ring Resonator) and SRR (Split Ring Resonator) structures, three additional transmission zeros are added to improve the out-of-band rejection performance of the filter. Moreover, the rectangular DGS structure below the triple-parallel coupling line reduces the insertion loss of the filter. The simulation results show that the filter center frequency is 9.5GHz, the insertion loss is 0.8dB, S11 © 2023 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society (ACES).
