In online shopping, a person's interest in a product is closely related to whether they will purchase it Analyzing people's interest in various products on time, along with product recommendations, can increase purchase rates. However, in many cases, We only know user implicit feedback, such as browsing or favoriting items, and cannot directly access user explicit feedback, such as product ratings. Moreover, users have limited exposure to products, resulting in a sparse user- item matrix. The traditional Alternating Least Squares (ALS) algorithm can partially address the issue of matrix sparsity, but its accuracy in recommending products based on implicit feedback alone is insufficient This paper proposes an improved ALS algorithm that converts implicit feedback into explicit ratings. We calculate the browsing frequency of a product based on user browsing counts. For a given product, we represent user preference by summing the browsing frequencies of all products with browsing frequencies less than or equal to that of the product. Then, by multiplying the preference level by the product's maximum rating, we derive a product rating, achieving a transformation from implicit feedback to explicit scores. Additionally, traditional collaborative filtering algorithms often use offline data, which may not align with user current preferences. To improve the algorithm's accuracy, we also utilize Flink for real-time data processing, allowing us to capture the most recent feedback data. This study tests the approach using the UserBehavior dataset from the publicly available Tianchi dataset. Experimental results indicate improvements in both Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). © 2025 IEEE.

On the Performance of Active RIS-Assisted Mixed RF-THz Relaying Systems

We investigate the performance of an active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted mixed radio frequency (RF)-terahertz (THz) relaying system, where the RF signal reaches the relay through the active RIS and is then transmitted to the user via the THz channel. Under this scenario, we analyze the system performance with the relay employing amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) protocols. More specifically, we derive the exact expressions for the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for both relaying protocols. Based on this, we obtain the exact expressions for the outage probability (OP), average bit error rate (ABER), and average channel capacity (ACC). Furthermore, to gain deeper insights, we derive the asymptotic expressions at high SNRs and obtain diversity order (DO) of the system. Moreover, we extend the analysis to the variable gain relaying scheme. The findings reveal that the DOs for both relaying protocols are determined by the THz channel parameters, and the DO under the AF relaying protocol is twice that of the DF relaying protocol. Finally, we validate that active RIS (A-RIS) can more effectively assist the performance of the mixed RF-THz relaying system compared to passive RIS. © 2014 IEEE.

Speech-to-text translation (ST) is a cross-modal task that involves converting spoken language into text in a different language. Previous research primarily focused on enhancing speech translation by facilitating knowledge transfer from machine translation, exploring various methods to bridge the gap between speech and text modalities. Despite substantial progress made, factors in speech that are not relevant to translation content, such as timbre and rhythm, often limit the efficiency of knowledge transfer. In this paper, we conceptualize speech representation as a combination of content-agnostic and content-relevant factors. We examine the impact of content-agnostic factors on translation performance through preliminary experiments and observe a significant performance deterioration when content-agnostic perturbations are introduced to speech signals. To address this issue, we propose a Speech Representation Purification with Supervision Enhancement (SRPSE) framework, which excludes the content-agnostic components within speech representations to mitigate their negative impact on ST. Experiments on MuST-C and CoVoST-2 datasets demonstrate that SRPSE significantly improves translation performance across all translation directions in three settings and achieves preeminent performance under a transcript-free setting. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Achieving High Efficiency in Schnorr-Based Multi-Signature Applications in Blockchain

Multi-signature applications allow multiple signers to collaboratively generate a single signature on the same message, which is widely applied in blockchain to reduce the percentage of signatures in blocks and improve the throughput of transactions. The k-sum attacks are one of the major challenges in designing secure multi-signature schemes. In this work, we address k-sum attacks from a novel angle by defining a Public Third Party (PTP), which is an automatic process that can be verifiable by the public and restricts the signing phase from continuing until receiving commitments from all signers. Further, a two-round multi-signature scheme HEMS with PTP is proposed, which is secure based on the discrete logarithm assumption in the random oracle model. As each signer communicates directly with the PTP instead of other co-signers, the total amount of communication is significantly reduced. In addition, as PTP participates in the computation of the aggregation and signing algorithms, the computation cost left for each signer and verifier remains the same as the basis Schnorr signature. To the best of our knowledge, this is the high efficiency that a Schnorr-based multi-signature scheme can achieve. Further, HEMS is applied in a blockchain platform, e.g., Fabric, to improve transaction efficiency. © 2025 by the authors.

The scattering media measurement for structured light techniques remains challenging due to the subsurface scattering that destroys fringe patterns and introduces phase error. Recently, deep learning has been successfully applied to fringe analysis. Unfortunately, collecting a large scale of labeled data is difficult, especially in scattering media measurement scenarios. Inspired by image style transfer, we proposed a high-precision scattering medium measurement method based on self-supervised fringe domain transformation. Specifically, by treating degraded fringe and ideal fringe as two pattern styles, a cycle generation strategy is developed to achieve fringe enhancement by translating between two fringe domains. Two generators and two discriminators are used to form cycle-consistency constraints for self-supervised learning with unpaired dataset. Additionally, we combine numerical and physical constraints to jointly optimize network parameters, effectively suppressing phase-shift errors and improving phase quality. Since the proposed approach eliminates the need for label data, it exhibits great potential for applying deep learning to scattering medium measurement. Experiments verify that our method can obtain high-quality 3D morphology of translucent objects. © 2025 SPIE.

A new broadband high-gain microstrip quasi-yagi antenna is proposed. With the aim of designing an end-firing antenna for X-band by utilizing the good directivity of yagi antennas. The main radiating dipole patches of this antenna adopts an additional tapered trapezoidal-like structure to optimize its radiation characteristics. In addition, the operating bandwidth and main beam gain of the antenna are effectively adjusted by placing four identical microstrip metal strip patches on the bottom surface of the dielectric substrate to act as the reflector and the guide, respectively. Simulation results show that the designed antenna operates in the frequency bands of 8.33-13.07 GHz and 13.57-13.95 GHz with relative bandwidths of 44.3% and 2.76%, respectively, and achieves a peak gain of 8.9 dBi. The antenna has a simple structural design and is suitable for X-band wireless communication systems with a wide range of applications. © 2025 IEEE.

The k-means method is widely utilized for clustering. Its simplicity, efficacy, and swiftness make it a favored choice among clustering algorithms. It faces the challenge of sensitivity to the initial class center. The enhancement strategy for the k-means algorithm focuses on refining the initial selection of cluster centroids, no longer using its random selection of initial class center points, but starting from the entire dataset, choosing the most distant point to serve as the starting cluster centroid. This can also prevent the local optimization problem of the k-means algorithm. The improved algorithm proposed in this article is an effective method that can select the initial class center point from a global perspective and reduce computation time. The suggested approach has undergone rigorous testing and comparative analysis across multiple datasets, yielding commendable outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

Active control of target scattered sound fields in ocean environments using virtual sensing

Active control of scattered sound fields is essential for low-frequency acoustic stealth of underwater targets. However, the ocean waveguide environment introduces challenges, such as multipath effects and non-uniform sound speed distribution, that degrade the performance of existing active scattering control methods. This paper proposes an active scattering control method applicable to ocean waveguide environments. The method employs an improved virtual sensing technique suitable for multi-incidence scenarios to obtain free-field far-field predictions, which are then combined with ocean environmental parameters to estimate the far-field pressure distribution in the waveguide. These distributions are subsequently used to design the weight vector for the secondary source array. Additionally, the paper explores active control strategy when environmental parameters are unknown. Finally, the proposed method is validated through finite element method simulations, performing active control of the scattered field of a cylinder in both isovelocity and depth-dependent channels. The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 Acoustical Society of America.

The majors accredited by the Engineering Education Accreditation (EEA) reflect the accreditation agency’s recognition of the school’s engineering programs. Excellent accreditation management holds significant importance for the advancement of engineering education programs. However, the traditional engineering education system framework suffers from the opacity of raw education data and the difficulty for accreditation bodies to forensically examine the self-assessment reports. To solve these issues, an EEA framework based on Hyperledger Fabric blockchain technology is proposed in this work. Firstly, all relevant stakeholders and information interactions occur within the blockchain network, ensuring the authenticity of educational data and enhancing the transparency of accreditation processes. Secondly, multiple roles are abstracted into a single organization to optimize the network topology. The original data is stored off-chain, and the hash values of the data are stored on-chain to reduce on-chain storage costs. The experimental results show that the proposed framework has a high throughput and the network latency of writing data to the blockchain is reduced by at least 0.04 s. It effectively improves network performance and security, which provides new insights for EEA management. Copyright © 2025 The Authors.

This paper aims to develop a holistic evaluation method for piano sound quality to assist in purchasing decisions. Unlike previous studies that focused on the effect of piano performance techniques on sound quality, this study evaluates the inherent sound quality of different pianos. To derive quality evaluation systems, the study uses subjective questionnaires based on a piano sound quality dataset. The method selects the optimal piano classification models by comparing the fine-tuning results of different pre-training models of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). To improve the interpretability of the models, the study applies Equivalent Rectangular Bandwidth (ERB) analysis. The results reveal that musically trained individuals are better able to distinguish between the sound quality differences of different pianos. The best fine-tuned CNN pre-trained backbone achieves a high accuracy of 98.3% as the piano classifier. However, the dataset is limited, and the audio is sliced to increase its quantity, resulting in a lack of diversity and balance, so we use focal loss to reduce the impact of data imbalance. To optimize the method, the dataset will be expanded, or few-shot learning techniques will be employed in future research. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
