A many-objective evolutionary algorithm based on rotation and decomposition

Evolutionary algorithms have shown their promise in addressing multiobjective problems (MOPs). However, the Pareto dominance used in multiobjective optimization loses its effectiveness when addressing many-objective problems (MaOPs), which are defined as having more than three objectives. This is because the Pareto dominance loses its ability to distinguish between individuals. In this paper, a many-objective evolutionary algorithm based on rotation and decomposition is proposed (MaOEA-RD) to overcome the shortcoming of insufficient selection pressure caused by the Pareto dominance. First, the coordinates system is rotated and a hyperplane is established to distinguish between the nondominated individuals. Then, a novel individual selection mechanism incorporating decomposition is adopted to maintain the diversity of the population. In order to compensate for the deficiency of the predefined reference vectors, a reference vector adjustment mechanism is proposed. Experimental studies on several well-known benchmark problems show that the proposed algorithm is competitive compared with nine state-of-the-art many-objective algorithms. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

Audio-visual video parsing (AVVP) aims to recognize audio and visual event labels with precise temporal boundaries, which is quite challenging since audio or visual modality might include only one event label with only the overall video labels available. Existing label denoising models often treat the denoising process as a separate preprocessing step, leading to a disconnect between label denoising and AVVP tasks. To bridge this gap, we present a novel joint reinforcement learning-based label denoising approach (RLLD). This approach enables simultaneous training of both label denoising and video parsing models through a joint optimization strategy. We introduce a novel AVVP-validation and soft inter-reward feedback mechanism that directly guides the learning of label denoising policy. Extensive experiments on AVVP tasks demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method compared to label denoising techniques. Furthermore, by incorporating our label denoising method into other AVVP models, we find that it can further enhance parsing results. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper solves the neural network (NN) tracking control problem for uncertain nonlinear servo system with time-varying parameters and uncertainties. To address the uncertain nonlinear function with unknown time-varying parameters (i.e., unknown nonlinear spatiotemporal function), the time-varying parameter extraction method is used to separate the time-varying parameters from uncertain nonlinear spatiotemporal function, which yields an unknown state-based boundary function. By the tools of NN and adaptive technology, an adaptive neural tracking controller is designed, which guarantees the uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) performance of the resulting closed-loop system. The effectiveness of the designed method is verified by simulations.

Learning Common and Label-Specific Features for Label Distribution Learning with Correlation Information

Label distribution learning quantifies the label space for each instance and has wide applicability in different fields. However, most existing work primarily focuses on common features, ignores the significance of label-specific features. Meanwhile, label correlation is well used in these work, but they still have limitations in capturing instance correlation. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel approach for label distribution learning to learn common and label-specific features with correlation information i.e. instance correlation and label correlation. First, we conduct $\ell_{2,1}-$norm regularization to select common and label-specific features, simultaneously. Then, we implement an optimization function to identify instance correlation in feature space. In addition, label correlation is collected with Pearson correlation coefficient. Finally, we design an objective function that enables the joint learning of common and label-specific features while leveraging correlation information. Comprehensive experiments manifest the superiority of our proposed approach against other well-established label distribution learning algorithms. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Synaptic learning with augmented spikes

Traditional neuron models use analog values for information representation and computation, while all-or-nothing spikes are employed in the spiking ones. With a more brain-like processing paradigm, spiking neurons are more promising for improvements on efficiency and computational capability. They extend the computation of traditional neurons with an additional dimension of time carried by all-or-nothing spikes. Could one benefit from both the accuracy of analog values and the time-processing capability of spikes? In this paper, we introduce a concept of augmented spikes to carry complementary information with spike coefficients in addition to spike latencies. New augmented spiking neuron model and synaptic learning rules are proposed to process and learn patterns of augmented spikes. We provide systematic insight into the properties and characteristics of our methods, including classification of augmented spike patterns, learning capacity, construction of causality, feature detection, robustness and applicability to practical tasks such as acoustic and visual pattern recognition. The remarkable results highlight the effectiveness and potential merits of our methods. Importantly, our augmented approaches are versatile and can be easily generalized to other spike-based systems, contributing to a potential development for them including neuromorphic computing. As a key component in the transmission system of high-speed trains, once a failure occurs, it will directly affect the safety of train operation. Therefore, it is of great significance to construct a degradation index that can comprehensively characterize the running state of bearings and establish a reliable remaining useful life model to ensure the safety of train operation. Aiming at the problems that the redundant features in the existing multi-feature fusion process affect the diagnosis performance and the spurious fluctuations phenomenon of the fusion features causes the inaccurate determination of the start fault time and leads to the low prediction accuracy of remaining useful life (RUL), A method based on adaptive feature fusion and autoregressive integrated moving average model is proposed for rolling bearings prediction. The research in this study demonstrates that by comparing and verifying with two sets of public data, the proposed method is effective in accurately identifying the features that are most sensitive to degradation trends, accurately determine the initial fault moment of bearings, achieve effective prediction of the RUL of bearings, and the related research results can provide reference basis for predictive maintenance of train bearings. © 2024, The Authors. This article proposes a new predefined-time (PDT) stability theorem, which offers more evident advantages compared to previous predefined-time stability. Firstly, based on the limitations of existing PDT stability, this theorem relaxed the limitations of sufficient conditions, which fill the gap in the research on PDT stability. Secondly, the PDT synchronization of multi-modal memristive neural networks (MM-MNN) is analyzed by the usability of the new judgment theorem. A matching PDT controller is designed and sufficient synchronization control conditions is obtained by utilizing generalized Lyapunov functional method, set-valued mapping, inequality analysis technique and differential inclusion theory. Meanwhile, the topological characteristics of multi-modal neuron and its impact on network synchronization behavior are presented. Finally, we provide some confirmatory numerical simulations.

A fast non-negative latent factor (FNLF) model adopts a single latent factor-dependent, non-negative, multiplicative and momentum-incorporated update (SLF-NM 2 U) algorithm, which can ensure fast convergence on a high-dimensional and sparse (HiDS) matrix according to empirical studies in prior researches. However, it is crucial to investigate the theoretical proof regarding the reason why incorporation of a generalized momentum method into an SLF-NM 2 U algorithm can ensure the fast convergence of an FNLF model, which has not been addressed in previous work. Therefore, this paper aims to unveil how a generalized momentum method improves the convergence rate of an FNLF model in the discrete time case by combining physical analysis. The FNLF model is superior to the NLF model in terms of the convergence rate and the prediction accuracy of missing data. This conclusion is obtained by empirically research on the HiDS matrix in industrial applications, which also provides empirical basis for theoretical proof.

Nowadays, with the development of web services, the survival of online service has captured public attention significantly. Future prediction of business is crucial to the shopkeepers. Predicting how the business will develop and explaining what key factors are leading to it are two most important tasks. Existing literatures usually tackle only one of these two tasks, ignoring that they are two closely related tasks and complement each other. In this paper, we propose a review-based neural model, named Deep Concept-aware Model (DCA), to predict restaurants' future status and provide explainable sentences simultaneously in an end2end framework. Specifically, we use co-attention to select concepts and implement prediction and explanation tasks through Factorization Machine and Gated Recurrent Unit, respectively. We conduct extensive experiments on three Chinese cities' datasets. The proposed joint model outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline methods for both prediction (average 40.96% improvement in AUC) and explanation (average 9.72% improvement in BLEU and 86.05% in Precision metric of ROUGE).
