A multi-agent coordinated planning approach for deadline required emergency response tasks

This study investigates the emergency decision-making problem in a multi-agent system. Departments are modeled as agents to perform coordinated planning to obtain a global action plan with a short execution time constrained by a prescribed deadline. A novel multi-agent planning approach is proposed to coordinate for the solution among agents in the system. The approach consists of two stages. For the first stage, a coordinated planning and scheduling method is designed to generate a candidate global action plan. In this plan, durative actions are assigned to proper time intervals with the consideration of temporal relationships among agents. For the second stage, a coordination mechanism based on local heuristics is proposed to reduce the global time cost of the candidate plan to satisfy the deadline. An experimental study of emergency evacuation problem is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed approach. © 2015 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Quantum-well infrared photodetectors have been studied extensively due to their night vision, astronomy and environmental monitoring research in recent years. However, responsivity and detectivity are relatively low in these photodetectors without the Au gratings. Therefore, the Au grating will be employed on the surface of photodetector with periodic structure due to the principle of spoof plasmon resonance. The new design mainly aims to enhance the absorption in the QW active region based on the Au grating and can be numerically simulated by using finite-difference frequency-domain method. With optimal grating parameters, the absorption can be enhanced by hundreds of times compared with that in the reference structure without grating. The theoretical results provide the realistic organic infrared photodetectors with theoretical basis and technical support.

Dynamic monitoring of vegetation coverage changes, especially on a relatively large temporal scale, have important practical significance in urban planning and environmental protection. The objective of this study is to dynamically investigate the urban landscape patterns of vegetation coverage based on remote sensing techniques. Multi-temporal Landsat images of 1990,2000 and 2013 were firstly used to produce three vegetation coverage maps of HefeiCity, AnhuiProvince, China with five grades using the NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) dimidiate pixel model. Subsequently, a total of eight landscape pattern indictors in FRAGSTATS 4.2 were selected to analyze the dynamic characteristics of area, quantity and density for the study area with different vegetation coverage grades. The results showed that(1) the dominant vegetation coverage of 1990, 2000 and 2013 were the high vegetation coverage, the moderate vegetation coverage and the moderate-to-high vegetation coverage, respectively. The acreage of non-vegetation coverage increased by1.89 %, while the high vegetation coverage decreased by 10.48 % from 1990 to2013;(2) the quantity and density of patches decreased by 33.42 % and33.41 % during 1990–2013. Shannon's diversity index and Shannon's evenness index increased from 0.92 in 1990 to 0.97 in 2000, and then declined to 0.96 in2013;and(3) the contagion index had an upward trend and conversely the aggregation index showed no significant changes, but both of them were close to1 during 1990–2013. In comparison with natural in fluences, the primary driving forces causing the changes were ascribed to human factors including the rapid population growth and fast-growing urban areas.

A novel ultra-wideband( UWB) antenna is proposed in this paper,which has a band-notched characteristic for the interference between the UWB applications and the IEEE802.11 a wireless local area network(WLAN) and the Wi MAX /C-band with combination of notched structures. The proposed antenna fed by coplanar waveguide( CPW),with modified U-slots and general U-slot in echelon patch which can be used to reject the frequency 5.15 to 5.825 GHz, 3.3 to 3.6GHz,and 3.7 to 4.2GHz. The simulation results show that the antenna has obvious band-notched characteristics in the notched band which can effectively prevent the interference of these narrow-band communication systems, and also has well radiation characteristics in the whole band.

The internet of things （loT） attracts great interest in many application domains concerned with monitoring and ：ontrol of physical phenomena. However, application devel- opment is still one of the main hurdles to a wide adoption of IoT technology. Application development is done at a low level, very close to the operating system and requires pro- grammers to focus on low-level system issues. The under- lying APIs can be very complicated and the amount of data collected can be huge. This can be very hard to deal with as a developer. In this paper, we present a runtime model based approach to IoT application development. First, the manage- ability of sensor devices is abstracted as runtime models that are automatically connected with the corresponding systems. Second, a customized model is constructed according to a personalized application scenario and the synchronization be- tween the customized model and sensor device runtime mod- els is ensured through model transformation. Thus, all the application logic can be carried out by executing programs on the customized model. An experiment on a real-world ap- plication scenario demonstrates the feasibility, effectiveness, and benefits of the new approach to IoT application develop- ment.

Protein folding, prediction of protein structure and functions are most important problems in bioinformatics. The protein fold process mainly reflects in the kinetic order of folding. Predicting the structural classes of low-homology protein is a difficult problem in the prediction of protein structure. In order to understanding the mechanism of programmed cell death, it is very necessary to obtain the information about subcellular locations and functions of apoptosis proteins. Predicting protein subnuclear localizations is a challenging problem which is harder than predicting protein subcellular locations. Predicting membrane protein types is related to the structure and function of proteins. In this review, we introduce some applications of nonlinear science methods and support vector machine methods to the above protein problems. The nonlinear science methods including the horizontal visibility network, kernel method, recurrence quantification analysis, global descriptor, Lempel-Ziv complexity, and Hilbert-Huang transform are used to extract features in these approaches. © 2015 Bentham Science Publishers.

Diffusion tensor based curvature-driven difiusion model for digital inpainting

In this paper, we formulate the digital inpainting as a curvature-driven anisotropic concentration difiusing process. The difiusion strength along the gradient directions is defined as a function of curvature, so that the "Connectivity Principle" can be satisfied. Difierent to the classic Curvature-Driven Difiusion (CDD) model, the difiusion along the edge directions can be easily integrated into the difiusion equation in our model by using difiusion tensor. As result, more exibility in designing the local difiusion behavior is allowed, and the CDD model can be generalized as a special case. We show that our model can boost inpainting speed 3fi6 times and at the same time has similar inpainting quality compared to the widely used CDD model. Experimental results on synthetic and real images have verified the stability and eficiency of our model. ©, 2014, Journal of Computational Information Systems. All right reserved.

Collective measurements on identically prepared quantum systems can extract more information than local measurements, thereby enhancing information-processing efficiency. Although this nonclassical phenomenon has been known for two decades, it has remained a challenging task to demonstrate the advantage of collective measurements in experiments. Here we introduce a general recipe for performing deterministic collective measurements on two identically prepared qubits based on quantum walks. Using photonic quantum walks, we realize experimentally an optimized collective measurement with fidelity 0.9946 without post selection. As an application, we achieve the highest tomographic efficiency in qubit state tomography to date. Our work offers an effective recipe for beating the precision limit of local measurements in quantum state tomography and metrology. In addition, our study opens an avenue for harvesting the power of collective measurements in quantum information processing and for exploring the intriguing physics behind this power.
